wduzak Posted April 22, 2016 Share Posted April 22, 2016 Former Toyota owner but just bought 1999 Forester and doing some maintenance. After watching the only youtube videos on filter replacement in 1999 Forester I got under glove box but could not find any evidence of a filter, mainly the absence of a screw, etc.. that would allow me to remove filter. Do I need to pull the glove box to get at it?I I've read that on some models including that year (1999) the cabin filter was an option. Any help would be appreciated. carfreak85 Posted April 25, 2016 Share Posted April 25, 2016 They were an optional feature, you can buy a kit to install it in any Forester, I put one in my wife's car. IF your car has one, it will be behind a little access panel on the underside of the dashboard in the front passenger's footwell. Google is your friend, try searching for images. Numbchux Posted April 25, 2016 Share Posted April 25, 2016 I stand corrected, I just looked in the replacement parts catalog (gets updated more frequently), and there it is. forester2002s Posted April 25, 2016 Share Posted April 25, 2016 My 2002 Forester came from the factory with the filter-box in place, but with no filters installed. The filter-box is black plastic, located under and behind (forward) of the glove-box. The filter-box has a rectangular access-door on its lower side, held in place by 2 steel clips.
