  1. They aren't targeting customers like you. Neither am I. You have a 15 year old car that you maintain yourself and a lifestyle that is willing to be interrupted by failures. "Don't fix it unless it breaks" is one philosophy - one that is *sometimes* successful in saving a tiny little bit of money. But over here in the real world where people rely on their cars to arrive at their place of work where they get paid far in excess (amortized) of the savings from attempting their own repairs, missing work, and paying tow bills, etc.... it doesn't pencil out to be profitable. Not to mention - no military, aviation, government, or other important organization has ever concluded that preventative maintenance is a bad idea long term. And generally speaking we are a specialized society. I fix cars. Someone else bakes my bread, and some other guy cobbles my shoes. Just how it's done friend. If you do it for funsies that's fine - but don't be mistaken that you are saving money. You are trading time - and time is often more valuable, and is directly proportional to money at some rate. We do a lot of preventative maintenance and we pride ourselves on keeping our customers fleets at a full state of readiness at all times. GD
  2. Right on ! And same to you and yours. Older I get the more thankful I become. No politics at the table !!!!!!
  3. Yes, the whole point of a K&N is to let little rocks in so they swirl in the vortex and clean the intake walls. Cleaning it just removes some of those helpful little rocks.
  4. A MAF is a hot wire anemometer with extremely thin wires protruding into the airflow. They can get dirt on them and oil from reusable filters can aid dirt sticking to them.
  5. Gasoline and a match works really well for cleaning oiled air filters. Step two is to buy a proper synthetic paper element panel filter. GD
  6. Clean the MAF using CRC Airflow Meter Cleaner. Be sure to clean the temp sensor AND the MAF sensor, they are both in the air flow meter.
  7. most folks would probably tell you to throw it all away and get a quality paper filter and clean your MAF sensor if the car has one. but, did you consider pouring the fluid into a different spray bottle?
  8. 80% cogged idler 15% water pump 5% broken belt GD

  13. For some strange reason this forum recognizes my user name but not my email address which I normally use on forums and I can't recover my password. Unless I signed up using my work address years ago. I just hadn't logged on in a couple of months. A few years ago I had 100 lbs of chicken feed in the bed of my Baja and my steep driveway was a bit slushy from where it had rained on top of snow and it seemed as if the car had more traction. I know you can weigh down the trunk/bed of a RWD car/truck but I guess this works on AWD vehicles as well. I was planning on filling some 5 gallon metal cans with used motor oil and using that as ballast. I estimated at 8 lbs per gallon, I could fill 6 which would equal around 240 lbs. I'm confused about the payload capacity. The door jam sticker says the maximum payload capacity is 800 lbs. So does that mean if I weigh 150 lbs, I can put 650 lbs in the bed? But according to the sticker below it shows 4 people and 3 packages and 210 in the front and 230 lbs in the rear. Suggestions?
  14. on inclines, some vehicles can reverse up better than going forwards. You might experiment with that. plus, using 1st gear may force the 4EAT into more power distributed to the rear. (anyone confirm?)
  15. The dip stick may be off; when I have checked it, it barely registers. Adding a quart and it soars up. There is a limit what do it yourselfers can do. The clearances are so small with the 2.5 units, I don't see how I could change out the gaskets. Does mixing oil cause problems? 10-30 with 20-50 with HD30, etc.. At a lot of the oil supply places there is not a good range of supply of motor oil.
