  1. I removed the mech fan and installed a 12" generic electric fan from Amazon. Ran all summer with a/c and no issues. Wired it with a relay switched from the factory electric fan on the R side of rad. Super happy and it seems to have a little more pep.
  2. Hey, I never really had occasion to post in Members Rides, but last week we bought our seventh Subi, and I thought I would line up the fleet for a group photo. These are all Outbacks - 2005, 2012, 2018. The two older ones are H6 engines, which we like. This is Subi 4, 6 and 7. Our daughter took off with 3 (which she rolled in the snow), and 5, which she took to Colorado with 265,000 miles. C
  3. Not on an ‘83. They’re replaceable. At least they are in Oz right up to the last brumby run in ‘91. L series, totally staked. Machining required to convert to replaceable uni joint yokes. Cheers Bennie
  4. well, my issue turned out to be vent lines that were rusted completely shut (the metal nipples) new filler neck with all new vent connections (and the shut off switch at the top) has solved my problem. was going to try pulling one of the vent lines to test as described above, but after removing the clamp, tried to twist the hose to loosen it, and it twisted the metal tube right off of the switch.. oops.. so ordered new filler neck and a new shut off switch.. when the neck arrived, it already the switch installed, so the separate switch got sent back. got it all installed, and YAY! I can put gas in again without fighting with it!
  5. The dealer didn't retrieve any codes? coupla things that can be bad without throwing codes; knock sensor and engine temp sensor. Knock sensor can kill power by pulling the advance. Some folks report cheap ebay sensors working well. temp sensor can cause hard starting if NOT reporting a cold engine when cold, or, flooding/'choking' if always reporting a cold engine even when warm. does the car behave better immediately after a battery disconnect ecu 'reset'? If not, I'd expect you're looking for something kinda physical; vacuum leak, low fuel pressure, sticking valve, maybe intermittent ground somewhere,.....?
