1981 ignition swap/conversion questions
my plan is to have the wire that gives power to the fuel pump to be wired to the ignition or the constant on the coil.so this is what i think is going to happen. 1. swap old external regulated alt w/ internal reg alt 2. cut fuel wire from old alt rump roast. and wire it to the coil constant power 3. change out dist keeping the wires form the replacement one to go to... 4. coil w/ out resistor replacing the old one that needed the resistor 5. run the 2 wires (pos neg)from the replaced dist to the new coil 6. check timing and all that 7. hope for the best OK now where are the flaws.....got be one in there some where......please let me know if you see one

met up with some new friends and hit the trails! one Geo tracker one jeep one samurai and 3 Subaru's. need less to say we had to stop several times due to our new friends rigs. the tracker lost its rear breaks. the jeep kept dying and the Sammy had starter issues. the subarus......nothing. some picks and vids for ya. http://media.putfile.com/nathan-ownin-the-hill http://media.putfile.com/assortment http://media.putfile.com/big-rutin http://media.putfile.com/bens-flavorite-stump http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=11878&limit=recent

1981 ignition swap/conversion questions
if im not mistaken the old disty would not work because it would rely on the old coil and alt.(since the old alt was not internally regulated)

1981 ignition swap/conversion questions
my coil is shot on my 81 2wd gl and i have decided to swap the old system with one out of a 82+.so parts on the list are distributor, coil (OEM), and internally regulated alt. my question is what wires will i need and if you have done this swap before what advice would you give?

You guys who redrill your rims, not your hubs.
i did just about the same thing. 9/16 plus used a angeled stone bit. good thing they are cheap. was toast after the 4th rim.

igniton coil question
after thinking about it sounds like the conversion is the only way to go. so off to the junk yard for parts. i will pick up distributor, coil (OEM), and internally regulated alt. anything else i might need? any tips?

igniton coil question
my coil is shot in my 1981 wagon 2WD. so i have been checking for a good after market one and have found that quite a few people are loving there ACCEL Coil. however my wagon (being a 2WD and all) has a external resistor with a igniter assembly and has a code on it that says 12V-S. sadly all the ACCEL coils i have checked out on the web do not say if they can be used with this setup. does anyone know if ACCEL makes one in this compilation? and if so do you know the part number? edit: so some do not like the ACCEL coil. if this is you let me know what you prefer (in the application stated above)

thanks for the info! i think i might do something similar. like using a 6inX6in square plate of 1/4 steel, dilling 2 sets of holes with 4in between the sets followed by serious bashing to mimic the curve of the fender well. any one done something like this? and do you think this would be strong enough?

Anyone with pictures of two tone paint jobs? (loyale wagons)
the Rockey mountain mock up is sweet!! how appropriate for your state.here is a pic of mine in 2 tone. personally i think a black bottom gives you "visual" lift:grin:

6 lug rim conversion
the rims i scored were of a d-50 pick-up before it headed to the jy.the brand of rim is American racing or AR. at my local yard these rims run $10 a piece, why so cheap you ask well a ton of trucks ran on these rims and there seems to be a ample supply of them. if you go looking for a set in a jy look for white rims with a thin blue and red stripe on the outer edge. cleaned them up and shot some paint and BLAM sweet rims!!!

So I'm contemplating doing my own lift on my 86 wagon. have plans all drawn up with the knowledge from the board and a few outside influences. one thing I'm still wrestling with is the bracket for the rear tower. i have seen the AA one but wondered what home grown people were doing it. so let me see those picks! plus any advice you would give.

TAHUYA! pics and video of a perfect day to wheel!
Yes and no...not sure what rig you mean.......My rims are drilled to fit the 4 lug pattern the black and tan rig. Ben drilled his hub for the 6 lug pattern the red rig....hope that answers your question:rolleyes:
