Old shool guy needs new shool rig for wife
El Toro replied to El Toro's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXbudget has a fair range no more than 3K. she does a mix of around town and highway. as far as sedan or wagon she does not car...but...she would like to have more leg room in the back seat. so im not sure witch one has better leg room for the rear passengers. any thought on this?

Successful Externally Regulated Alternator Swap
Recently I was on a quest to swap out my ER Alt to a IR alt and this is what I learned..... Converting your 1980 or prior alternator from "Externally Regulated" to "Internal Regulated" is quite simple and easy to do. You will need... 1. Internally regulated alternator from a 1981-1984 Subaru or a 85-94 GL/DL/Loyale (they had 65 amp alternators) 2. Butt connectors 3. Crimper's 4. Adjustable wrench First remove the battery(SAFETY FIRST)and set it aside. Then find the regulator (square box 3x3 ish with quite a few wires going out the bottom). Cut off the wires at the regulator. Then strip and twist the white wire to the yellow wire and crimp on a butt-pick1- http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12644&cat=500&ppuser=13949 Now strip and twist the white/red wire to the white/black wire and crimp on a butt-pick2- http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12645&cat=500&ppuser=13949 . Strip the blue/yellow wire and connect it by a longer length of wire to the + side of the coil(this is your fuel)-pic3- http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12647&cat=500&ppuser=13949 . Swap your old ER alt for the new IR alt, replace your battery and wala ! No more external alternator!! Big thanks to hondasucks for his time and references!!

Washington State Ferries comuters?!
So i work on the boats on the bainbridge island run and it seems that every other car on the boat is a Subaru. got to thinking that some of those Subaru's have to be board members. if this is you give me a shout! I'm curious to see how many of us take the boats.

Quick Stereo question
BTW i have found it helpful to twist the two joining wires together and pinch them in the same side of the connector. that way if you make a mistake you can cut of the wrong wire and splice the correct one in the other side. like this...

Quick Stereo question
unless your building a competition set up the stock wires should be just fine.

Quick Stereo question
OK as far as the ground wire attach it to the wire harness (Subaru had the stock one that way for a reason...the reason I'm not sure but thats what they intended.) on the harness that plugs into the Subaru there should be a wire that says "constant" or "12volt" and should be yellow or yellow with a white stripe. splice your uninterrupted into that. I'm slightly confused with your back speaker situation. are the rear speakers in the stock position with stock wiring? if so the harness you got with the radio should have rear channel wires. just splice the radio to the harness that indicate the rear channels and WA LA! plug the harness into the plug that the stock radio was in and its time for tunes! samo is a good one to talk to about stereos but i have not seen him around for a while........TRATOR!!!...just kidding.

I took the car for a drive and...
i cant quite tell but do you have a guard on the bottom? if not its time to make one. might help you in the future. a wise Subaru guy once told me "stock or lift make sure you have a skid plate!" PS, lookin good!!

Washington State lift laws BLOW!!!
nothing makes me smile more than a subie with more diff clearance!! the other day i parked next to a lifted dodge...looked insane...he saw my rig and was all"you of road that thing?! he he" and responded "yes the clearance on a Subaru is pretty good." he then proceeded to look under and saw how much clearance at the diff i had. he gets up all pissed and said" i paid 6 grand in lift and tires and you have more clearance than me!!!! i don't think it helped that i told him i only had $20 invested in el toro. i digres...the hole thing about the headlight law you know they do not enforce that one....gues i should upgrade my mud flaps.

Washington State lift laws BLOW!!!
yeah but i wonder if the bumper law supersedes the lift rule?

Washington State lift laws BLOW!!!
so i was kicking around and found some WAC laws. http://www.wsp.wa.gov/traveler/cvd/pasequip.htm scroll down to the lift section and read about max lift for a car........22in! now i was wondering if you could say that your rig was a SUV and qualify for higher lift? any one have problems with the fuzz and if so how did you handle it ( and i don't mean"give the guy a dirty look". i figure thats automatic)
