so, are the sprockets on bgd's block correct or do they have to be "drastically different" like hooziewhatsit said? perhaps you can make some pictures of the 2 orientations/possibilities?

HID lights on the GL wagon
joostvdw replied to suberdave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you could've put some candles up to improve your headlights anyways, the result is amazing nonetheless! do you have a bigger picture of the new bulbs? do they just fit in like normal H4's? (or whatever was in there) -
just when i thought i was finished
joostvdw replied to Tibia's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
they're heat shields, and, they shield heat inside there is some sort of fiberglass yeah, I removed the shields from the cat on my XT and found dozens of rust pinholes, out of these pinholes watery substance sprayed on the cat and burned off, causing smoke. -
some questions on an engine rebuild (for a noob)
joostvdw replied to crazy D's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
built up a killer compressor setup, that would be awesome, and something (fairly) new edit: wtf, something completely different from what I said is in my post ? edit2: oh, it's back to normal now nevermind -
I know the automatics in europe did this, I have the original dealer brochure of the '88+ XT and it states that the 4wd comes on (or partially, since it's a clutch type center diff) when you turn on the windscreen wipers I would scan it for you, but since it's in dutch, I doubt anybody can read it

EA82t power differences in different countries
joostvdw replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you know, this might be the first post that I actually understand what you are saying just for the record, what does the "gvwr number" state as the weight of the car? my XT weighs in at around 1250kgs. And is making 140'ish chp (mostly stock). -
The last exhaust you ever need
joostvdw replied to DaveT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
when I was shopping for a exhaust, aluminized piping and actually everything NOT rvs was not recommended, the pipe it self will not rust as easy as normal steel, but the welds are open and not galvanised/aluminized or anything, so they will rust as normal steel. I have 2,5 inch from the turbo back and 2 mufflers (centre and end) for 650 euro's. -
FSM XT section 6-3 page 139 needed
joostvdw replied to joostvdw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
AWESOME!! I'm going to fiddle with it tomorrow. you guys keep amazing me with all the help and support I get here -
As the title says, I need this page, I already have it as a .pdf file on my comp, but I can't read it (it has been scanned incorrectly) It has to be a XT FSM, years don't matter much I guess, it's for the blower motor. When I have it, and everything works out, I will do a writeup on how to permanently fix the stupid heater motor resistor thingy, the proper way. thanks in advance.

EDM XT's don't have a O2 sensor, that's true, but they don't have a EGT sensor either. I don't know about the cams, disty or ECU, if someone is interested, I can post the part number of my 88 XT turbo later on. -
well now, I believe thanksgiving is over? could someone please measure their struts for me I hate to keep asking, but I really need to know thanks

XT turbo injectors not firing? SOLVED!!
joostvdw replied to joostvdw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well, of course, the problem came back and the car didn't run for a while, but I didn't want to bore you with that , I do have good news now! read on... I have been having water problems since I've got this car, I had entire indoor swimming pools at the passenger feet. Of course, this wasn't very good for the car or the wiring, and it has come back to bite me. I was trying to dry it today and cut up some foam tape holding the wires flat under the passenger seat, and this is what I found: as you can see, those four wires, were the wires for the injectors , but now comes the strange bit, the wiring loom was all original, all tape original, no-one has tampered with it, so this bodge-job of solder and tape, was from the factory the only thing I could think of was that they ran out of wire and soldered it together, 18 years ago.... the swimming pool combined with this semi open connection made a nice electrochemical reaction, as can be seen here: the greenish stuff is copperoxide and the white stuff is tinoxide, it was some sort of paste, the water acting as a bonding agent and conductor, so actually, my car ran on water for a while anyway, after replacing that piece of wire, making new solder joints, taping them in properly, the car started up, ran perfectly and has been so since. happy ending don't you think? -
making a vibrationless 4x4 wagon
joostvdw replied to bgd73's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
is the noise rpm related? I ask because on my XT at about 3500rpm I have a resonance interior which makes a wa wa noise but this "may" have something to do with my 2,5 inch open exhaust... -
headlights are acting up
joostvdw replied to Subaru_Mechanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
in stock configuration the headlights are not switched through relay's (and if they were, the light would go out, not dim) most likely a ground issue, check all the major grounds and the mounting points of the headlamp casing (it grounds through the shell) -
oh, sorry, that's right, you guys have thanksgiving well enjoy your dinner/holiday then, and I will check later. and thanks for checking your parts pile
-
one of you guys is bound to have the stuff lying around :-\, would you please measure the strut so I can search for look-a-likes...
-
hi, Could someone please give me the following dimensions? I need them to find suspension parts for the XT, so I can cross reference the original struts with other cars. The diameter and length of the part of the shock that slides into the front hub (I am talking about 4 stud 4x4). The diameter and length of the shock "arm" which bolts into the stut top. And finally the dimensions of the 3 bolts that hold the strut top to the body. (these are not entirely necessary, I can measure them myself, but if someone has them laying around, that would be way easier) I need to know this, because XT shocks are very hard/expensive to get here and this way I hope to find some nissan/honda/whatever that has the same shocks up front. (legacy +05 can be used in the rear) thanks in advance

Has anyone ever had an EA82 transmission rebuilt?
joostvdw replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
don't know how much this would help you, but I got a quote of around 700 euro's, and that included complete new internals (except center diff) -
XT turbo injectors not firing? SOLVED!!
joostvdw replied to joostvdw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
right, just as mysterious as this problem developed, it dissapeared I replaced the wires from the ECU to the injectors, still ran like crap yesterday, fired it up today and everything was fine, drove around the block for a bit, not a single problem, I do hope it doesn't happen again, but who knows anyway, thanks a lot everybody who has helped me! you guys are my only (to be perfectly honest, together with xt6.net) source of information and help and haven't let me down! -

mm, well, I could always try I guess... it sparks good though, how should/can I check the CAS? I have a 88 NA XT FSM in .pdf but I can't really find a exploded view of it or some sort of way to test them. -
but that's the whole point of owning a 20 year old subaru or did I just step on someone heart :-p
