how do i post the pics? -
all cars are different and saying that it would unconditonally work would be a lie. I belive it would work that way, but that is just my opinion. It sort-of worked that way for me.

was quiet untill swampers.....lol... body much stiffer also. I hate that someone would do that to a subaru i have seen it done badly to though.

The reason I had to use the foam was i cut it out to fit 29 1050 tslsx tires with only a 3 inch lift. I cut out all the way to the door edge.(4 door wagon) I did this 2 years ago, i live in Va, which they do put salt on the roads, the only places i havent had problems of rust on my car so far is the places the foam is. after i cut so much out, when you would hit a large bump friends behind me said you could see the sides of the body expand. as for the front big sledge, go to far, door problem, I didnt trim front fenders, i let my swampers "adjust them for me" the foam thing only works if you remove all dirt and water first, otherwise it will keep water in it, I have used 2-3 cases of foam in my car, it is almost dent proof solid. did the entire unibody supports also, with 6 inches of lift it still corners good untill tires slide. can even open the doors with 2 wheels off the ground.

I used a jig saw to cut mine in back, front sawzall, but could have used a jig saw on front also i belive. Want to make the fender wells stronger after cutting in rear, buy a couple to four cans of "great stuff" canned foam and fill the fenders up with that after uoy cut them, it will save you from having to weld any supports into the well and keeps water out. Just dont get any on anything you dont want it on, hard to get off, cover the tire and ground, really expands.

To six lug or Pug? That is the question!
subaruloverbrad replied to Snowman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I aggree, I had a shop to do it for me a couple of times, costed 20 each i think. They even installed the studs for me.I had pugeot wheels for a while, the problem with them is they are only 7 inches wide, I wanted 29 10.50 tsl swampers. I tried to get them to put them on the peugot rime and they wouldnt because they said they werent safe. I had 29x 1050 tires with only a 3 inch lift, I love the six lug conversion, but there are some 6 lug rims that arent offset enough to clear the struts, the yard I got mine from let me try a few right there, I drove down there with 4 lug wheels, pulled front hub off and put on the six lug hub then tried rims untill i found the offset/look i wanted. on a second note the rims i have now have 32x 11.50 tsl swampers on them with only 6 inches of lift and fender triming, I also adjusted my wheel base a little about an inch. sorry for rambling. -

i'll try to get one tommorrow, but keep in mind by brackets look different. there custom, but same works both ways -
it would have to be vented. that much i do know. in order to remove it. my 82 repair manual tell a little, but dont know if it would help you much. as for sub fan there are a few inline fuses, and a relay that should be checked,as for location, im sorry for i do not know. It is a high current device and i have had to replace my relay a couple of times. my book also says on auto trans models there is a water temp sensor also that is connected to the air conditioning clutch circuit. remember i am going by a ea81 book, yours will most likely be the same, but maybe not. wish i could help you more

Disconnecting AC compressor
subaruloverbrad replied to drewcifer85710's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
all i can say is dont get it on your hands, or breath it. not that i would ever take one off, but in theory, it would be better to loosen the large tube side first since it is low psi side. i would guess long wrench. or something. if it was already empty it could be recharged with r134a may already have been converted, if so it will have what looks like a med quick connect on the low side. blue capi think. but venting the gas is not legal and i'm not telling how to do it except in theory. -
I have 32 11.50 tsl sx swampers on my 1981 ea81 subaru. I have a 6 inch custom lift. I have figgured out how to adjust the wheelbase, to keep tires from rubbing cab/doors. I have had it set up this way for a while (about one year) ok here goes. If you take the radius rod off, trim the outer part of the bushing on back side of the bracket towards the rear of the car, not the front one ( leave the part of the bushing that sits against the bracket) . Then you will have space to move the radius rod back and fourth inside bracket. then you can use large (i think 5/8) washers to push the front wheel forward a little. It will need to be re-alined after wards. youll see what i mean. only tighten rod at the bushing side enough to take out slack. Also if you do this, double nut the radius rod for saftey. I have drove with this mod for over 11000 miles so far, and had no problems, I have cheched them a couple of times in between and found no abnormal wear. any questions?

Auto question
subaruloverbrad replied to subaruloverbrad's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
see now i am confused a little, My books said 3:70 for the front, but kinda vague on the rear, but one service man says 3:70, think that is why it has pulled out of the body, itis fixableeasy enough, but I would hate to pull it back through again. Iprobably wont be using it off road, so i may never put it into 4wd again. I have an off-road subaru for that. -

anyone know??? -
I just got a 85 brat with an auto, goes good, but i was looking under it and found the mustache bar was pulled out of uni-body on one side, but the question is arent all autos susposed to have a 3.70 mine has a 3.90 rear. is that normal?

I just lifted my ea81 wagon (6 inches) with a bad torsion bar, all i did was jacked car up with both top bolts out untill i had the height i wanted, then drilled the tower there...... of course i had to take out rear plastic as to not drill through it..... and put good size washers and 1/2 inch grade eight bolts, i have or can have a pic if you want!

subaruloverbrad replied to scrapdaddytatum's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yes, i have, lots of bolts, i had problems taking mine apart, what questions do you have , i might be able to help you. make sure you take all the bolts out, remove tail-shaft assembly, then remove front bushing, then all case bolts, and there is a lot of them! also might want to mark where they go, most are different size, been a while (over a year) but i'll try to help, dont take the side plates off at the stub shafts! They are pre set and unless you have the propper equip, hard to set pinion/ring with out right tools correctly. -
i didnt get the xt off of ebay there are 2 black xt 4 turbos at to car lots here in southern va. has to be auto, she wont learn a man. maybe ill lift it 6 inches and use an seprate transfer case, but she doesnt want me to do that..... she loves the way the xt looks. i can (maybe) get an entire parts xt-6 but it is a man. and no title, but then it would be harder to find parts for and i like the 4-6 lug conversion. and since i have 3 ea81's and 2 ea82's i have enough parts to keep an xt-4 going a while, i think. guess i'll turn up the boost a little, are their any smaller turbos that will fit? a smaller one would spool up faster than a large one (i think). Oh yeah, i'm thinking on installing a 2nd trans in my roo, if it works, i will have pics, kinda cold out side so that project is on hold for now. one xt 4 is $800, the other is $1000, both are neg with cash! both are black, one is auto, both are turbo. also one in johnson city for $200, dont know condition or much about it though.

right now i have an 1981 ea81 6 inch lifted subaru wagon, and it accelrates really good. i can usually keep up with the 4x4's at work. I am running 31x10.50x15 tires. with 3.90 rears. stock engine. but anyhow.... the reason i'm using this platform, is she wants an off-road sports car, told her to get an rx but not sporty enough. even though i will be lacking in power, what options do i have to make it as strong as possible? Will an er27 fit in a regular xt? if it would, guess i could turbo it, would stock turbo be big enough?

I am planning on buying my wife a turbo xt awd auto. It has the ea82t engine, She wants it to be fast, i've never had a turbo roo before, here is the kicker, she wants it lifted with at least 28 inch tires on it, the mechanical parts i can do no problem, it just is i know nothing about turbos and with big tires, i'll have to have more power to still be quick. what can i do to accomplish this? Remember i know nothing about turbos, I thought bov, crank pressure up, what is boost cut out, @ how do you keep it from doing it? everything i need to do to make it quick, links? anything to help me to understand it better. Thanks Brad
