  1. Since i cant afford to buy lots of parts for my cars i have been wanting a hitch for my 91 Legacy Wagon. I finally got to see a u-Haul hitch up close, there is no way i was going to buy one pre made. they sit to low and i already drag my bumpers not to mention how much they wanted for the hitch and the hitch looked so weak so like all my other Subarus I have had i decided to build my own. I now have a 2" reciever and it is in the center of my bumper so i lose no ground clearance and after i built it i tested it out in the yard hooked a tow chain around the rear of a chevy luminia and the ball and drug the car with the e-Brake on all over on dirt without wheel spin. I have the ej22 and fulltime 4wd auto 4speed trans.
  2. I have had a bunch of diffs apart and transmissions apart the carrier will fit but cant just swap the ring gear it has to have a different pinion gear that matches the 4.11 ring gear
  3. the blocks i belive were for the standard lifts the ones without diff block was the high clearance lift.
  4. Just as a side note, if you want to lower the back of the diff you can a couple of inches by simply drilling two 1/2" holes lower than the originals then re-bolting the mustache bar back to the diff. just make sure they are not to close to the edge of the mustache bar.
  5. on my lift i lowered it 4 inches but i lifted mine 8 inches, i had the same problem so i slid the small clam closer to the joint. it is harder on the axles but i wanted the extra clearance.
  6. i just recently installed a timing belt on my n/a legacy and when i alligned everything up i noticed the arrows pointed and lined up with the white bands on the belt. never noticed them before on my other belt changes.
  7. With my 8" lift i had a little binding so i cut off some of the slip part of the steering wheel shaft and re notched it with a angle grinder no more bind.
  8. autozone can get one that is 27.5 thats where i got mine at, thats what i had to use on my ej since i didnt have power steering. they had to mesure a few but the have it wish i had kept the part number
  9. yeah that wiring isnt that bad...I almost got over whelmed when i first started my first one....man thats a lot of wires but most go to things you dont need.
  10. im at splat82's house a lot. i agree we need to have a get together sometime. id love to have another subaru to ride the trails with the club.
  11. was not talking about ft4wd i was talking about the push button 4wd. The wiring really isnt that hard to do you would be surprised.
  12. to add to splat 82, leave the engine in so you can keep trying it to make sure you didnt cut the wrong wire.
  13. im in southern VA near Bristol.
  14. im not trying to make anyone mad or have anyone lose any sales this is what i did. take apart ej transmission, take all the gears out and clean up the front two halves. set them aside, now take apart the ea transmission, discard the front halves, the ej front halves are the same other than the bellhousing and the ea gears fit inside the ej case. the pushbutton ea tailshaft will bolt right up to the ej case halves. the input shaft is even the same size as the ej so the factory clutch EJ will even work. dont forget to exchange the spedo gear in the transmission. Also make sure the alignment holes on the main berrings line up with the pins in the case. it is a lot easier than all this sounds. id build the hybird transmission for you for FREE just to be able to do a bunch of pics and better write up it works great.
  15. hey there is another way if you dont plan on using a lo-range transmission. and you wont need a adapter plate or different driveshaft and will still have a pushbutton 4wd trans with an ej22 engine. I did it twice now so i know it can be done. Want to know how?
  16. i hope this works....my friends jeep with 36 on left mine with 31
  17. yeah i have power sterring and have crawled over some really big rocks without the need of a damper so far
  18. yeah i never had one on any thing i have owned but thought about trying it just to see if anything seemed different.
  19. I havent done it but it cant be that hard, thinking on doing it. What i been thinking about doing is building a shock mount on my front x-member and use some large cable bolts the u shaped ones and attach the small rod end to an angle bracket and take the bracket with the cable u's to the closest part of the tie-rod near the end of the rack. I hope this helps at least a little for you.
  20. Rwd is a little different esp in 2wd when i build another with a t case it will not be a nissian case, i will use one that is twin stick capable. before the t-case with my ej and 27's i had to hit everything we went over and up usually skinny pedal against floor and kept wound above 4k went ok but so rough on passengers and the car. the guys i wheel with have usually 36" and larger tires i tend to try to go where they go. As tall as mine is i even drug the body on some places last time and lots of the rocks were halfway up or more on my 31 inch tires. My off road club www.4wheelingcentral.com Wish there were more off road subarus around here!
  21. yeah i have a possible line on one an rx that is it has the rear disk and lsd, i already have one for my front havent decided which i want in rear Welded or Lsd last trip i ended up with a blown head gskt(not sure how) and had open front and rear, ill never run open again, i wouldnt have got pulled as much if it had had some sort of traction helper. And a future mod i will be making will be a stronger radius rod and front arm, not bent yet but can for see a problem with them.
  22. I aggree that is a very nice ej im hoping to lift my wagon just a little, but of course thats what i said about the last subaru i lifted now its 8 inches higher lol.
  23. what i did as far as struts was i came down the amount of lift i wanted, re drilled the body for the upper strut bolts and then on inside of trunk i installed a peice of angle 1/4 in thich that sets flat on the trunk floor and the strut bolts go through it. the bolts are long enough that i installed spacers to hold strut away from the body so spring would not rub. I have drove this car like this for over 5k miles with no problems and during this time ive earned the nick name "baja Brad" for the way i drive off road. (jumped it lots of times cause i had no low range and 27 inch tires)
  24. Nice Sedan dont be intimadated by the legacys the ej22 is great i will never go back to the ea style more room and everything. And i have noticed something about the legs how often(i know you havent noticed this yet) do you see a legacy with the inside little things like windows and options that dont work? I am a Huge fan of the ej cars now. This is all coming from a guy that swore by the ea81s for years and said id never own a legacy, now i have 2 legacys and an ea82 sedan powered by an ej. Ask any questions you want anytime and we will all try to help thats what we all are here for! Just my 2cents
