  1. I have done a ER-27 into a 84 wagon and an EJ-22 into an 82 hatch, and would defintly go with the EJ. Easier to fit, stock location for the radiator and way more common. Just get friendly with the wiring harness and diagrams. Matt
  2. Holy whats going on? I havent been on here in a while and you 'decide' to go to Tuscon. Wowser that something new, are you going to be coming back up here? Wowser. Matt
  3. Yup, the one closest to the timing belt, there is also a mark on the cam pulley and crank pulley that you just need to line up with the marks and install the new belt.
  4. Cool, I will give you a call after I get out of work tomorrow, we still need to pack so it will be later before I could help:D. If you want my phone is 973-6587. Give me a call if you run into problems. Matt
  5. I get off of work at 6:00 in Medford so if you want we can meet somewhere and caravan up north. Stop at Canyonville(food) to get food then off to Portland to for my brother. Then we are home free to Hood River. Let me know what you think. Matt
  6. If I go I will be heading up friday after work 6PM in either the legacy or turbo justy if it is ready. Matt
  7. My 91 FI car has a seperate sensor for the radiator fan on the intake manifold, I am not sure about a carbed car thought. I believe it has a brown plug on it. Matt
  8. I actually had the colors right at home but forgot them. Basically the two wires with voltage are to the 2wd and 4wd solenoid. So if you connect the one that is grounded to one OR the other then you will see 2wd then 4wd. Matt
  9. before 95 the justys were all Subaru, then the went to the suzuki plant. Matt
  10. Righty-O I will get some pictures tonight and get them posted. Matt
  11. So how many people are in southern oregon. Maybe we should get together and do some wheeling/lunch/wrenchin/gatherin some place. Matt
  12. I have a 4.0 liter jeep radiator mounted behind the front seats in an 84 wagon. I used 1-1/4" fuel transfer hose routed inside the tunnel above the exhaust and drive shaft. For the last 5 months it has been working fine using stock suby AC and coolant fans wired to the thermo switch. As far as bleeding the system when I fill the system up I just pull the upper hose off of the radiator and fill it from the engine(ER-27) until coolant comes out the hose and radiator then reconnect. Some day I will solder a bleed valve onto the radiator. I have found that as it is running there is about 3/4 to 1-1/4" of air in the top of the radiator. Matt
  13. I will take a look at the wiring diagram in a bit, and hopefully get back faster than my PM. Matt
  14. I have the MS-I with the rev. 2.2 board and am running the extra code and love it. I ran it in my turbo justy and now it is in my ER-27 powered 84 wagon. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the MS-II if I needed one. Matt
  15. That is Tony's old wagon, I dont think that he is on the board. Matt
  16. 1. Preperation- a. I had both FI and carb. pistons and rods, so I chose the ones with the most dish then balanced the pistons and rods. Next came new rings. b. Cleaned up the head and removed all the sharp edges from the combustion chamber. Then cc'd the heads, and lapped the valves. c. Installed a IAT sensor in the plenum, see below. d. Drilled and tapped hole in block between cyl. 1 & 2 right above the oil pan. Removed the most of the balance shaft and installed the rear bearing so that the oil passage was blocked. e. Installed new main and rod bearings, and found the best of two oil pumps. New water pump and clutch also. f. Installed an actual TPS for the engine management(yet again see below). 2. Fuel System- a. Broke the engine in on the stock computer for around 1100 miles. b. The first time I ran the engine I used Megasquirt n' Spark without the spark control so that I could have warning light and stuff like that. It required the IAT sensor(regular GM) in the plenum and just the stock coolant sensor. I really liked the way the car ran, and how easy it was to tune until it came to leaning out the on boost side of the map(engine ran really strong and just didn't have time to tune it until it happened. After about 4400 mile of being turboed the engine developed a very very strange knock and wouldn't make boost. Opon further inspection found that the compressor shaft had broken, and the turbine impeller was just dancin' in the exhaust snail. So that pretty much sucked, so everything not stock was removed and the car was put back together in stock trim. Since the Megasquirt was removed and I had a ER-27 and 84 GL wagon that became my new project for a while. After about 4 months I came across another turbo and the bug hit me again. This time I ran the factory computer and it pretty much hated boost over 3 psi. but I ran it again until the cam pulley came free from the cam and the car yet again was parked for even longer. It is just now getting a JDM engine installed and will be ran in stock trim for who knows how long. It turns out that both times oil pressure, or a lack of killed both turbos. 3. How long did it last? a. I would say about 5500 miles but the internals looked like they had absolutly no problems with the boost, but the oil delivery was the problem both time. 4. Pictures? a. I do have pictures of the setup but will need to post them later. Just spend the money on the Megasquirt as it will be the best thing you can buy for it(other than a new oil pump), and I will give you my maps, and temp sensor files. Matt
  17. I just might be getting rid of mine , it already has the cylinders honed, and a hole drilled and tapped in the block for a oil return. Now the bad, it will need new balance shaft berings put in, and you live on the other side of the country. Matt
  18. I just take the main bearing caps off and lower the crankshaft to get the chain off the crank sprocket, then just slide the balance shaft and idler shaft with the guide off of the engine. Matt
  19. A snatch block is always handy, and for that size of winch do get one. http://www.warn.com/truck/accessories/snatch_blocks_.shtml
  20. Full time and Shift on the fly Low range, like the rest of the transmissions. Matt
  21. My 91 justy engine has nothing in common with my 87 sprint engine. Also as far as how all the drivetrain is bolted in still nothing in common. I have heard is they started making the Justy in the Hungarian plan around 94. Which is when you stopped seeing them here. Matt
  22. I have/had a set of struts off of a 1981 DL 4wd. wagon that had replacable cartridges. I dont why this car had them but it did, all I know is they were a Showa body and cartridge. If you use the starlet cartridge you will also need to drill the 'D' shaped hole in the top to accept the round piston rod. Matt
  23. I found some stuff that is working so far. 1" fuel transfer hose, cost me $34.00 for 20 feet . I would like to get that napa number if it is possible, for a back up. Matt
  24. Sweet freaking action, when are you guys going next? The wagon is up and running and the new tires sould be here soon? Matt
