  1. Month ago I got this P0420 code when I was getting on the interstate (Was getting on it pretty hard). Went to Advance and had the code cleared the next day. CEL description said it was dealing with catalyst insufficiency. Stopped by shell that day, filled up with 93 octane and never had the code come back. Today on my way home from work I got the check engine light again. Two days ago I filled up with 87 octane ethanol blended fuel. I checked the maintenance history on my car and it shows the cat replaced before along with the recall for the front 02 sensor. I am running factory headers with an STi catback. Car has 112k. Could the crappy gas have something to do with it? Anything I can run in the car to maybe clear up some crap in the cat?
  2. 98's have a different style headlight than that of 99-01s. Here is what they look like unmodified (My car): The ones I posted that had the HID's had the housings blacked out. At the very least you could change out the headlights and get a set of high quality bulbs. They say going yellow on fog lights helps in inclement driving conditions. That is assuming you have the optional fog lights in your OBS.
  3. Another car that we in America will never see. Not a fan of the doors either.
  4. 99-01 lights will bolt in and look great with HIDs. http://i39.tinypic.com/24fbiud.jpg
  5. Best bet would be just to find a set of steel wheels and throw a set of snow tires on there.
  6. Haha, I've read that as well. Its still weird seeing that reverse lockout ring in a Legacy.
  7. Yeah give it a test. I've seen some crazy things caused by a bad alternator before.
  8. Is your alternator in good shape? What about the battery?
  9. Since you are going through a lot of hazardous conditions. I would recommend putting the factory intake box back on. That is your very best bet. If that is outside of the question. Subaru's SPT has a short ram intake system for your car. It can be ordered at the dealer parts counter and they may just have one in stock. http://www.driveperformancesubaru.com/version3_1/upgrades.asp
  10. I drove one back in July. I really liked it and I'm a manual transmission person! Go drive one, you might just enjoy it.
  11. You could find you the front clip from a 99-01 2.5RS and swap all that over.
  12. CEL = Check Engine Light. If you do, take it to an auto parts store such as Auto Zone and have them pull the code for you, write it down, then post it here.
  13. Pros: Subaru made it. Cons: Head gaskets, loves to overheat, not worth the trouble, little performance potential.
  14. I tried several years ago to put an STi catback on a 91 Legacy. Its not a bolt up job. If you are wanting it that bad, spend about $60 and take it and the car to a muffler shop.
  15. The 2.5 is still available in the Legacy and its not a V6, its a horizontal 6. http://www.subaru.com/vehicles/legacy/index.html
  16. Thats amusing. When I was car shopping last year and comparing insurance rates for an 02-04 WRX wagon and my 2.5RS coupe, the difference with my insurance company was $20/6 months. Of course Im married, own a home and live right smack dab in the middle of the bible belt and all the cars on the road here are Chevy S-10s.
  17. I assume you are also asking about the bolt pattern. The pattern on your wagon is 5x100. The wheels that will not fit are SVX wheels and 05+ STi.
  18. I assume you are talking about the clock that is one the dash. Are you sure someone did not yank the clock out to put a gauge pack in there and just forgot maybe to hook the clock up when they sold it?
  19. I agree with GD. Tell them your car is an 84 so you can finally start running vented rotors.
