  1. Watch out for 97+ outbacks, they have headgaskets problems. the 96-99 2.5L have headgasket issues SLegacy, just to let you know......the 2.2L is the best engine subaru ever made. I got a 96 outback 5spd that has a 2.2L 113k for under 5grand, with all the options. I plan on having it for the next 8 years of my college experience
  2. Well I talked to crutchfield.....they said that the magnet width is .1" too big, and in the back doors I have a difference of a 1/4" in tweeter hieght. Tomorrow I will go out and take a look at the door panels and the windows (down) to see what can be done. I am thinking I could just take the factory grills off in back and just use the polk grills. The 0.1" in magnet width....I dunno
  3. Anyone have a old crutchfield. Old enough to actually have the vehicle specific spec sheet in it, with all the numbers. I rummaged around and cant find one. I wish they still had a sheet like they used too.
  4. 1996 legacy outback wagon. I need to know why polk db650 6.5" speakers wont fit in either doors, according to crutchfield. The only thing I can come up with is the surface mount height (this is the height the tweeter extrudes out of the speaker's mount). On polk db650 the hieght is 3/8". Anyone know what the max. surface mount hieght is?? Can the factory speaker grill be trimmed down from the inside to accomodate a protruding tweeter.
  5. por 15 is great stuff from what i hear........try checking out some jeep forums (older rusty ones, o wait they all rust:rolleyes: ), they tend to like the stuff.
  6. Well after mounting my radio to the center console in front of the shifter, putting 2 screw holes in the plastic i came across this. www.siriusbackstage.com and www.tss-radio.com .......which is where you can find specific car make mounts for your radio. I'm about to order the one for my 96obw and just not pay attention to the 2 holes in my plastic.
  7. 1996 obw 2.2l 5spd 117k getting 21-22mpg. I just changed my plugs and wires, so I am hoping for a couple more on this tank. I drive faster now that it runs better. I am going to try and lighten up my foot. Basically this tank is going to be inconclusive since I changed my driving habits(unless the mpgs go up:eek: )
  8. paranoid or something of the form. I had a post about seafoam maybe 4 months ago. It was the first time I have ever used the stuff. It helped my cold morning tick somewhat.
  9. Yea prolly the heater cable under the dash. A '96 outback that is automatic has a 2.5L, which is prolly why it just had a rebuild.
  10. haha, I knew someone who had a grandma like that. I was scared when I rode in the car with her.
  11. And it would certainly not be fun.....just keep the rpm's under 3500 and do regular maintnance.
  12. You could just mount a red light on your rear bumper and turn it on when your going thru fog. Search ebay.co.uk
  13. If you re-work your tubing to make it a functional air intake you will most likely yield more mpg. At high speeds it will serve as a ram air that will do barely nothing physically but psychologically, you may feel that you have a more powerfull car. Kinda like taking out the intake silencer (which i just did, and it had this effect on my mind). Your engine will recieve ambient air tempature air, which will give you better performance, and may yield better mpgs. Note: You will have to also make a drain off so your not sucking in that nasty rain that likes to show its face.
  14. 96 obw is disc brakes all round. Just bleed them again. There is a special(abnormal) way to bleed these since its a diagonal braking system.
  15. word to that. Claim it as a lemon and the dealer will either pay you off with a substantial check or you'll get a new car. lemon is three complaints/problems that cannot be fixed after the third repair.
  16. If its a vac. leak then get yourself a can of starter fluid and start spraying
  17. thanks. I had no idea that all that was under the cover. I tried searching for front main seal (which i thought it was), but obviously it returned no results.
  18. Although my leaks are minor i want to fix them...1996 2.2L 5spd 1.) The plastic cover on the front of the engine - the bottom is leaking. what is this?? 2.) Valve cover maybe - will post pics tom. if not raining. Anybody have a pdf or anything showing the engine broken down with numbers listing parts??
  19. Holy crap, Its like a completely different car. My car started to misfire today so I got new NGK plugs and OEM wires. In the process I decided to delete the stupid intake silencer. I cant believe it, the car actually sounds like it has a aftermarker intake. Now to figure out these leaks.....
  20. If they couldn't hear it, then they have nothing to go on besides what you say. Dealers suck
  21. In an old VW I had the check valve in the fuel pump would not open or stay shut or something when the car was cold. I had to turn the key to the start position 5-6 times to build up the fuel pressure then it would start. My guess - fuel pressure
