Watch out for 97+ outbacks, they have headgaskets problems. the 96-99 2.5L have headgasket issues SLegacy, just to let you know......the 2.2L is the best engine subaru ever made. I got a 96 outback 5spd that has a 2.2L 113k for under 5grand, with all the options. I plan on having it for the next 8 years of my college experience

Well I talked to crutchfield.....they said that the magnet width is .1" too big, and in the back doors I have a difference of a 1/4" in tweeter hieght. Tomorrow I will go out and take a look at the door panels and the windows (down) to see what can be done. I am thinking I could just take the factory grills off in back and just use the polk grills. The 0.1" in magnet width....I dunno

1996 legacy outback wagon. I need to know why polk db650 6.5" speakers wont fit in either doors, according to crutchfield. The only thing I can come up with is the surface mount height (this is the height the tweeter extrudes out of the speaker's mount). On polk db650 the hieght is 3/8". Anyone know what the max. surface mount hieght is?? Can the factory speaker grill be trimmed down from the inside to accomodate a protruding tweeter.

Well after mounting my radio to the center console in front of the shifter, putting 2 screw holes in the plastic i came across this. www.siriusbackstage.com and www.tss-radio.com .......which is where you can find specific car make mounts for your radio. I'm about to order the one for my 96obw and just not pay attention to the 2 holes in my plastic.

1996 obw 2.2l 5spd 117k getting 21-22mpg. I just changed my plugs and wires, so I am hoping for a couple more on this tank. I drive faster now that it runs better. I am going to try and lighten up my foot. Basically this tank is going to be inconclusive since I changed my driving habits(unless the mpgs go up:eek: )

If you re-work your tubing to make it a functional air intake you will most likely yield more mpg. At high speeds it will serve as a ram air that will do barely nothing physically but psychologically, you may feel that you have a more powerfull car. Kinda like taking out the intake silencer (which i just did, and it had this effect on my mind). Your engine will recieve ambient air tempature air, which will give you better performance, and may yield better mpgs. Note: You will have to also make a drain off so your not sucking in that nasty rain that likes to show its face.

thanks. I had no idea that all that was under the cover. I tried searching for front main seal (which i thought it was), but obviously it returned no results. -
Although my leaks are minor i want to fix them...1996 2.2L 5spd 1.) The plastic cover on the front of the engine - the bottom is leaking. what is this?? 2.) Valve cover maybe - will post pics tom. if not raining. Anybody have a pdf or anything showing the engine broken down with numbers listing parts??
