So.. a friend of mine called me to help her find a new rear glass because some hooligans broke it out. Safelite quoted >600 just for the glass because its a wagon. for the coupe's and sedans its only 250ish.. Is this right? it cant be all that much for a wiper.. can it? Where can I find one for cheaper? or would it just be cheaper to go to a JY and pull the whole rear hatch? any help would be awesome! -Justin

haha I've always done that on a lot of my cars. The blue looks nice though, on my truck i'm thinking of a soft white. driving without the under dash lights just seems weird. -Justin -

yea, i can kinda agree with bheinen.. to a certain degree. If you want to save a few bucks and get the other parts you need.. you might just keep the stock HU and fix what you got and save a few bucks. Especially since you have to do some modification to get it to work. That, and you'll end up replacing the speakers anyway because of the output the new HU will be doing. Now, that being said though. What I would do (and it would cost a bit of monies) is get a little 4 or 6 channel amp and replace the factory amp when you put a new deck in there. Put the Tweeters to the deck and the mids to the amp. if you find a 6 channel amp, you can bridge the 5th and 6th for the sub. (or an aftermarket sub you stash in there) Now, you could do all this after you get the shocks and goo and replace the speakers like above ;-) -Justin -

....so a after market deck wont work with the stock amp? if not, how or why? Mine did, granted.. i have a jeep not a Toyota. It seems to me it would be rather dumb to make it not plug-and-play with a new deck. or are you suggesting removing the stock amp because it is under powering? -Justin -

http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/stereodetail/2091.html Found your wire diagram. From what it *looks* like is that there is simply a Front L/R and a Rear L/R to the amp, then the amp either has a built-in crossover, or a crossover after the amp to go to the mids/highs. Obviously It would just be easier to buy the harness instead of splicing into these wires but it gives you a good idea on where/how to test to be sure. In my jeep, i had it this way and the amp had a crossover built into it. When i replaced the "stock" amp, i put my crossovers and amps nearby that. Edit: Where my factory amp was located (under the back seat): What i ended up doing with everything there: -Justin -

To add.. Unless there is 9 channels running of the factory deck, unlikely i think, You should have no problem getting a matching harness and putting a little pioneer deck in. the audio will, or at least should, come off the regular front L+R, rear L+R wire outputs. -Justin -

It really depends on how the wiring is done. Look up a wire schematic for it and see. a lot of time they have a "built-in" amp that runs all of it. My jeep had a 6 speaker system in it, and there was an amp for them all. How are your speakers set up? 2 tweet-dash, 2 mids fr-door, 2 tweet + 2 mids rear-door and sub? If anything what you'll find, if there isnt an amp for the mids/highs, is a standard 4 channel output from the factory deck. Then, from there, there is probably some built-in crossovers that split the audio from mids to highs per that channel. Then for the sub, there'll probably be a little dinky amp in the back for it - For that, they more than likley either bridge OR run off the L+R audio from the rear channels to come up with the input for the sub. make sense? -Justin -

General Carburetor question

Sorry for the mess in the truck.. I havent had a chance to really clean it. On my to-do for the truck is take off whats left of the old window tint off the 1/3 windows in the back - if you look through them all you see is a blur. I'm wanting to put some tint back on it.. but that'll come later. I was thinking about that electronic fuel pump (before i saw that video) Obviously it might not do much for the overall fuel economy, but might help with the starting the motor. I'm also planning on removing the "mechanical" fan that i have. I swapped out the clutch fan a while back for the 1:1 spin fan because it was having clutch issues as well as heating up issues. I wanted to make sure that i was getting all the cooling i needed. now I'm sure a good electric fan should do the trick. I also want to swap out that power inverter for something a bit beefer.. i occasionally do some auto detailing and need power-on demand. sometimes i cant just run an extension cord from a building so its easier to just have the power as a part of my truck. at the moment its 400w (800w max for 30 sec) but it cant even run a vacuum. so that doesnt do me much good. though, i'm really liking the power outlet i put in the back. -Justin -

Hey thanks JesZek, for that bit of information. I watched the video of the max with a weber carb.. I gotta say, that guy has a bit of a peice of junk. He did have a few nifty things that he added though like the electronic fuel pump, and such. I'll have to add a post of my truck later and show you it. I was thinking of the electronic fuel pump, simply because it would probably help it start easier. When you leave it for the night and start it.. it takes a couple cranks to get it to catch. Eventually, if i end up keeping the truck for sure, I'll try and find a 5 speed for it. seems in that guy's video it had a lot more pick up and go than mine does.. which is sad because he said it was slow! hahaha Thanks! -Justin -

I doubt if i can be able to get the trans... i dont have the money for that project. My friend said it was a cable clutch so we would've been able to just grab all of that out with the trans. I wonder if they did a different cab for the man/auto tranny's.. there isnt a cut-out for the gear shift and no opening for a cable for the clutch.. obviously, i could just cut it out. made me wonder... -Justin -

GAH! of coarse my friend calls me from a "U-Pull-And-Pay" and says he sees a match truck with a 5speed in it.. with a clutch assy! My only problem is no $$ to do it! BLAST! -Justin -

big problem i'm going to run into there is finding a 5speed that'll fit in there and to put a clutch setup on it. unless the new tranny would have a cable clutch.. -Justin -

well to me it doesnt seem to even have the "MPG" when its 19 MPG.. I'll have to try and fiddle with the choke and see if that gets me anywhere. I'm kinda disappointed since its such a small engine that the best i can get out of it is 19. But, it is what it is.. -Justin -

I'm pretty sure it isn't computer controlled, at least not by much that would make a difference. The CEL doesn't even require much to clear other than a switch on the cluster.. and I believe its not even a true CEL light but a timed service carb light ( or something to that nature) I cant pull any codes from it because, at least i haven't found, there isnt a way to pull 'em. :-/ So I want to say because there isnt a way to pull any codes.. that it isnt ECU controlled. -Justin -
I have a '87 Mighty max - Nothing special.. 2.0, 3sp Auto, RWD, Zero gonads. It needs a bit of work but for the most part its a pretty neat truck. My problem is that I'm getting around 19MPG out of the thing. Is this a normal thing for these Carb'd pickups? it seems pretty low for simple 4 banger.. I've also noticed that it is hard to start.. sometimes after 4 or 5 cranks over and over, while pumping - I've tossed it off to the mechanical fuel pump (yea.. its mechanical). I also noticed that while having to pump it, i can really smell the fuel dripping off the engine. Is that why its hard to start because its getting too much fuel? I suck when it comes to carb's.. any help would be awesome. -Justin

Well, as I'm writing this. I ended up (well was forced to) selling my lego. I know, I know, I just got the car and I did spend a bit of money to get her running. But a rather large bill decided to take me to court this past week and now I'm forced to pay. on the flip side, I probably made away on the + though with the condition it was in and made 600 off it. (sure wasnt helping that it was ticking, and smoking a bit) so.. yea. I'm depressed right now. Thanks everyone for the input. I decided, before thinking about selling the car, that i wasnt going to get the beater anyway simply because the guy was full of stuff. the engine was worse off than mine... leaked AND burned oil, gaskets were seeping, gas in the oil, and milkshake coolant. he may have been a "mechanic" but he left his engine behind. -Justin

So if you've been following my issues lately.. my '91 Lego is having engine issues and from the looks of it its going to take a while for me to afford to fix. I found a '90 Lego on craigslist that has the same engine but the body is a real piece of work. (linky to the ad) I've been tossing around the idea of getting it. the guy who has it was willing to do a trade for it, me trading a computer for the car. Mainly for the motor and possibly the transmission, would it really be worth the hassle? the car is really a piece! I also found a '92 EJ22t with the wire harness, crossmember and exhaust on cl for $800 but the guy doesnt want to do a trade. dangit! anyway, would it be worth the hasstle? it's been mechanic owned so that could be a good thing.. input? -Justin

i wish i had the money.. i would be interested. I noticed this up on craigslist.... is this something that should be out there like that? linky: http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/1952903670.html -Justin
