anti freeze leak from a bolt on the head
moosens replied to old sub freak's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Shoot your dealers parts guy for not having crush ring washers. He's an idiot. And I don't recall a crush ring on those head drain plugs. Lots of people totally ignore that plug when doing intake work so they end up with coolant all over the engine. Weren't the older ones Allen heads , not hex head? I never noticed any concave recess , no countersink , etc. But never had any leak there either. -
Pretty sure they did not have those last time but I sure will ask about any others they may have or be willing to reproduce. I guess I need to phone in. Got no reply from the "contact us" box on their site. I mentioned our old contact and previous order so you'd think whoever saw it would get that sales rep. Or make some contact. Calling later today to shake the tree. Thanks everybody !!

Lost the clip for clutch cable, pedal end

Places like Cali and urban North East , and such , yards are Mob controlled or influenced and most unfriendly to the guys like US. Or so insurance terrorized they're paranoid. -
I know the Gen I cars only have one fusible link up front where Caboobaru said. It's usually fine. Mine has been thru hell. What IS a tricky issue is there's a real tendency for these little glass fuses to go at the ends and look like they're fine when you merely LOOK at them. Take them off and tug on the ends and even lightly twist. You may be surprised. On my car it seems to be more the lower fuses for the headlights and such. 25 amp guys I'm pretty sure. Get a little mixed box of those - you'll want 15 and 25 for sure , only one 10 I think and that never seems to go. Check all your grounds like I'm overdue to do. Gotta be a good reason why my fusebox gets so hot sometimes.

How to remove the ignition cylider?
moosens replied to Giant's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I'll try to get my parts manual but I think it shows that as a unit and not exploded since you can't buy pieces .... I think. Wish I had the manual here. Otherwise I may have the answer on that spring with the steering column I have. I need to sleep now but will check later. -

How to remove the ignition cylider?
moosens replied to Giant's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I know in the office furniture and such they use a "core" key which when inserted pushes the tab in that locks it in place. Just a thought. Other brain boil was a tiny pin somewhere?? I can recall dismantling a Stage 1 ignition switch wanting the same as you but I occasionally still come across that switch in pieces , so I never bothered but must have held hope for a core exchange too. Locksmith here you come ? -

Next weekend looks out for me. Anybody want to pinpoint which yards we'd all like to hit and some starting point? And please, if anybody is close enough get us a report. I'm thinking Harry's is the anchor, wanna start there? Or you guys want to work this into the Carlisle weekend? -

Someone with the parts manual can maybe look and see if that cylinder is even sold seperately. My FPM is not here right now. Leeroy? -
Nice !!! Quad lights rule !! I've got a windshield if shipping would be worth it. Good luck with it. Possibly The Best year to have ! Enjoy!

Lost the clip for clutch cable, pedal end
moosens replied to xman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Can I add to the confusion? Hey , I've got those clips , probably a bunch of guys do. When I'd part out my cars I'd save all those little clips ,etc. Let me know if you still need one and I'll look in my boxes of doo dads. I think that's pretty much the same size clip at that point from the 70's thru the early Legacy. Anybody else? -
How to remove the ignition cylider?
moosens replied to Giant's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I've got an entire steering column with a good ignition switch with key if you need one. Looks like you do. I could remove the housing piece from the column to make life easier. You'd get the switch in the housing , ready to bolt in and plug in. Switch had rust on the cover but those are easily removed for a steel wool rub , or even find replacement I've seen on eBay. The switch turns well and is not sloppy. Its one of the items I have at the front of my storage , ready to ship quick. Contact me if interested. -
Body part match up?
moosens replied to raging squirrel's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
For your Brat the 2door car doors work and are an improvement for safety given the side impact rail within the door that does not exist in your Brat's. Makes the door more heavy , not sure if hinges are different. Glass must be from the Brat. Front valance is shared only with the 4WD wagon Windshields are the same all cars except the Coupe has "longer" corners up top. Seats , dashboard ,etc. all about the same except only the Brat and 4WD have the "4WD" in the cluster. GF model has tachometer , as do some GL's - grab the disty too. Enjoy! Sorry we neglected your post. -

Very desirable year. Don't F with it ! Cheers! -
Tim , second line of first post. :-p All - I am pretty sure they are talking about gates being open for general admission and participants. Pretty sure there's one gate open all night with the watchman present. If you're late its no big deal because its a National event so they must anticipate a few stragglers..... like us.
