Went to Carlisle for our big show on a Friday night once in the '78.Same thing, lights went out.I checked the fuse, looked great,no fix though.Drove carefully for about 100 miles or so,next day had Skip look it over.He used my FSM and hunted through everything only to find the fuse I saw as good had a broken endcap.......didn't see that because I didn't take it out and tug on the ends.Filiment(sp?) looked good. Skip to the rescue! Might or might not help you too.

Windshield gaskets Batch One ***Completed***
moosens replied to Zefy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Hey guys, can we whack this thread now or what? Last to get them are the Canadians (Zefy accepting the lot) and MAV in Florida.Canadians look to be all set for payment. They've coverd the ticket.MAV needs to send just a small balance,so can we consider this batch done? Let thread drop?Delete it? On to batch two And BTW....git yer butts moving!!! Those of you who replied for Batch 2,please,please,please make things happen quick to ensure our price and make life easy for Todd and myself. Thanks -
Nice base to work with!!!!!!! What's the Mfg. date on it?? Before May of '78? In a couple of years I'm going to need one just like that, not pretty, but solid.Keep that in mind for me.

A little bracket here,a little bracket there.......hmmm,we all want to see that project.Subframe, slight lift, big wheels......all it takes is money and time. As for dropping in a 1600,should be straight up.Like Todd said, back then folks regularly took a 5-7 year old Subaru they got for $500 and dropped in a 1600.Giving up on the 1400 was real easy back then.If the crossmember is not perfect you might have to hog out the mount holes, but I think you're ok really.

price on a 79 brat
moosens replied to milkman111083's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Gotta start super low in this case.Low mileage, sure but I got my '78 with 70k too for $350,running great. Granted the days of getting that lucky are waning, but I'd still start way low because of it sitting, beat interior,dent,etc.. $200 and let them work you up a little if you have that weak of a heart.(don't be insulted,we've all gotten weak for one thing or another) Like 75Subie said for max,but I sure wouldn't go any higher. Good luck -
Yes,I'm going to whip up a sealing parts/weather stripping thread soon. Basically,it'll be a call to arms.Scatter and seek, bring back good news. Then plan a financial undertaking once we're sure we have what we're looking for. With each approach we need to explain to every vendor that this would be a group purchase, not just one or two cars. Most likely upwards of 50 cars +. Getting back to your '76,that's a smart approach.Cover it,let the rain go over it now instead of into it.Where you're at it'll sit fine.

We need a cross section of the rubber to give us an idea of wether or not a current catalog item will work,or if we need to special order. PRP's catalog has nice cross section views of their stock. Datsuns, maybe!! The Subes and 'suns share a few items! Cross your fingers everybody. Whoa!!! I might have the cross sections right here in my FPM!! Later on I'll start a dedicated Sealing and Weatherstripping Parts Thread. For now,the info you asked for......Stage II '77-79 rear sedan windshield gasket p/n = 6650 02660 and according to the FPM does NOT interchange with Stage I cars from '72-77.That p/n is 6650 02240 GF Hardtop = 6650 02410 for Stage I and 6650 02700 for Stage II FE and DL Coupe = 6650 02280 for Stage I and 6650 02680 for Stage II

So,what about Windshield GLASS for our oldies?
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Thanks, but don't bother. They aren't about to send glass over for us now.We have a board member who works at SOA.He's also checking on some old stock, but so far has come up fairly empty. Looks we're going to need some produced unless some distributor or shop still has a batch. -
Yes,I agree with Todd. Strip everything out of that interior. You're probably going to find some stuff you don't like behind the dash too.All needs to be dealt with. And besides, you'll be that much more ahead of the game if it does become a parts car. I can't emphasize this enough, keep everything labeld and organized.Although this is a really simple car,as time goes by even the simplest of items can perplex your day. You at least have your head on your shoulders about it,I can see that.thumbs up Drop the gas tank,I guess you're doing that already.Get the bumpers off, splash pans, exhaust chunks (asuming it's like most sitting Subarus),etc. If the ceiling liner is good, don't touch it. Please get it as best as you can and take some more pictures. Not sure if WagonsOnly has looked in on this but he/we should have some floor sections from a '75 4WD wagon that might help. Mosty you need it stiff, solid, and trustworthy.Replacing with the pressed steel pieces it was originally assembled with is most likely not going to happen. But if you ask me if I care......no way! You'll have that body style rolling and if somebody needs to be picky about it call me and I'll kick their  And,if need be,I thnik you've got an excellent shot at finding another. There were TONS of those as they were very popular with ladies,so they're still out there, albeit a handfull of them.

Brake pad replacement question
moosens replied to MachineAgeVictim's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Jeff,Haven't heard from you.I sent emails,or PM's I think too.Windshield gaskets are shipping.Email or PM me,please.I replied to the Paypal payment address from your initial payment. That much I'm sure of.Talk to you soon, Paul Oh,and try some WD-40 or stronger, inside the dust boot around the piston.Let it sit facing upward for a bit, then go try it.. Seriously nice rebuilts on eBay.Randy "Mofoco" has them.Right around $49 I think.THey'll show up cheaper once in awhile, but only after you already bought them. -
Hey Jim,good to see you around the old country here. OK,who's the person with the 360? I can't resist asking.:-p

86 carbed swap into a 88 SPFI??
moosens replied to JLDT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
OK,I've got you now. Yes,you can drop the carb'd engine's longblock into the SPFI car with one minor issue. When you disconnect the AIS piping from the exhaust port of the carb'd model you'll need to cover the holes with some metal shim stock,or whatever you have that'll cover those holes. Intake mainifold gaskets are the same for carb/SPFI.Be slow and careful with those intake manifold bolts.Keep in mind that most of us have snapped one of those bolts.Heli-coil to the rescue!!:-p ...or Time-sert. Good luck with it. -

sorry,I need to re-read that post...... -
Can the VW Bug gasket be used there?Todd (subaru3) would probably know. You can repair that floor.Won't be easy, but it doesn't have to be perfect either. We'll all try to help you out with pics,or scans of FSM's or FPM's.You can at least get the important points down,if there are any for that area you're working on.Were the seat mounting points still there? If the rot was just sheetmetal floor then you're not doing so bad.I looked at the pics very quickly before. We're all wanting reproduction parts, but I don't see that happening much at all.:-\
