  1. If your sure that this is what you want you can Contact WWW.AIRBAGIT.COM I think they are in Pheonix Az.They quoted me @$1000.00 to mail them my old struts (85 4wd RX) and they would put new shock cartrages in all 4, and convert to firestone bags/compresor/valves/tank,ect. complete basic kit.front/rear and side to side.(think of off road potential, not low rider lameness ) It would have as much lift as the travel of the shock cartrage allows.(I think he said 11in?) When you look at there sight they will show you alot of other kits. some are as much as $2500.00 but dont get discouraged.these are bling bling ,most popular high priced newer car kits.when I spoke to the rep he told me they had nothing pre made for (what we call EA) cars. They didnt have much for subes at all.at that time 1 yr ago,But he told me they would take my old struts put new kyb cartrages, tig weld new plates on my struts to take the firestone bags.and mail it all back for around a grand..with the necessary entry level(low buck) components. fine tune to your application with limiting straps and bump stops. If you ever drove off road high speed with stock subaru air ride (when it actually worked properly),or after market air, Man there is nothing like it. If subaru would have done a better job on their electro-pnuematic suspension, we probably wouldent even be discussing it. As far as the axle angles are concerened,we are not even close to using the full angles that the d.o.j.s alow if you do your mods to take advantage of some of that downward travel. and think outside of the lift kit box.you could gain a few more inches. The stink bug clearance is one of the best things about subarus especially the ea 81s. but there is alot of travel thats wasted there.Open up your fenders and cut/pound.re pannel your body to use some of that valuble travel that your springs rob us of. How tall is a compressed spring? how tall is a deflated air bag? More travel is easily done if you keep your tire o.d. around 26.5 and I can see it having 6-8 inches of adjustment easily maybe more.well se this winter.Ive Seen massive travel on buggies, and though suspension geometry is the key factor, its not all of the puzzle, its on these cars that my point is best seen, that alot of the travel in on the compressed side thats unobtainable with springs.not like an r/c car that will squat way low to the ground. even our lifted cars didnt seem to use all thats there because of the springs . Most people wont dump 1000 clams in suspension on an old sube, but I will. I figure it like this ,An ea 82 lift is around $400/500 bucks I plan on tricking out my project for keeps. So why not get 10 times the performance and adjustability advantages for another $500.00 the rear will get the lift from the struts alone, and front will be 2 inch main crossmember lift blocks w/ tranny cross member in the stock position, and let the air struts do the rest on the front. and run urathane bump stops ,($5.00 each)and protect cv's on the other end with nylon limiting straps.($4.00each) and some serious cutting bashing and panel rewelding to clear 27 inch tires. blabla blaahh. im trying to get mine done by spring and will have detailed pics.may need 2 inch blocks every were except the struts, not sure till I get it apart. Good luck. forgive any typo's.drove from midland tx/pheonix.im fried.need sleepy thnx.
  2. Battery slowly dying? My wifes windstar, the crap battery slowly over worked and killed a 6 month old altenator.just had an identical flicker, battery still worked soso(before we noticed)and always started and ran good.but, slow dying battery caused it all. hope it helps.
  3. Nug,hows everything in v.a? we still feel we got a good deal from you,and for the $ its good cheap, fun transpo.:banana:we apreciate ya.and it 4x's killer Probably will do an ej swap in the summer.and some other mods.Hopefully the info will be better and in one file. And I will look into the vacuum leak. Thanks everyone for the input.
  4. Ok,first of all, thanx for everybodys efforts. Suberdave nailed it.a crudy designed rotor. set screw fell out.and what he stated first is so true in life situations as well."I maybe way off",to me translates to this. What may be nothing can really be everything. i sort of feel like a goob, cause i missed something so simple. The mystery with the constant, always there flutter is anoying. even though it still runs good and strong.any ideas? Thanx everyone:burnout:
  5. Ok ill work on that, thanx for the come back. im frustrateded. 210008 mile when it happened. does it matter/or make sense that when it crapped out it was working at max cap? could the fuel pump (pressure)explain the constant flutter or mild missing(not spark related).that ive been feeling the last 1000 miles. p/s/ this is the 85 rx that I bought from Nug in V.A and was owned by MEEKYMOOSE on the board. it ran good and strong with the exception of feeling like it needed a tune up. anyone else? And thanx for taking the time to help:confused: I think there was a ford fuel pump swap that improved performance. anyone know the thread ?
  6. filter is pretty new. not sure,How do I check that?. I just charged the battery and tried it again. samething . Acts like its out of fuel. and the flap on the M.A.F, slaps randomly when I try to crank it over. reminder, this thing ran pretty good other than having a constant light flutter. changed the cap and rotor, ran better. then we got on the freeway and openend it up for under a mile and whammo we were crappin to a slow stop. help
  7. Help......The cars been running good till last night. We got on the freeway, hit the gas and started jetting,(i was stepping on it hard, 7lbs of boost,6000 rpm),got up to about 70,and then when I let out of the throttle and shift into 5th it started to grumble, then 5th on the gas, lost almost all powe, cluncked and slowly crapped out to its resting place.I stunk like a battery fire or something strong. Here is what we checked before we towed it home. 1 spark yes 2 timing belt broken No 3 fuel filter ok and engine is getting fuel.(out of the filter atleast) 4 flapper M.A.F.senser looked ok. Is it a fuel pressure prob? cause it acts just like a carbby thats out of gas. could it have jumped time? When we tried to start it and it was not a happy or a smooth wrewrewrewrewrerwewre, when it turned over.it was hopping and kicking a little. after all 15 minutes of trying it started 2 times very rough. Then it did not like the throttle open. no response. after several trys to start,it did,and I let I let it idle. then after 10/20 seconds it died.then would not start . again, same thing again, 5 long tries to start and it starts idles smooth at 800rpms and i touch the throttle and it dies. please help. I know some of you smarter ea82 turbo people have been there done that So please fire away.
  8. spools and boost 7 lbs every time. Not sure if its a fuel or spark ,or distrib. prob, turbo is fine. its more annoying than anything.it pulses and is especialy noticable in normal conditions like driving at 45 mph under no load, foot barly on the gas 0 vac/0 boost. it has a slight studder.and if i floor it it scrams, but same pulsing.if im under the hood, and use the cable by hand, and slightly raise the rpms slowly it has a slight hesetation till about 3k then smooths out everytime.
  9. I reworded my thread because, like a normal person that is not computer/internet experienced,I made a bad choice of words in the discription of my cars most recent need for repair. If any one was rubbed wrong,or hurt by this I offer my apologies.10 people read it before I changed it. good lesson. life has given us all differnt challenges and struggles. Anyway, whats the answer do you know GD in portland?
  10. The 85 rx (87 motor/)runs strong, and 1500k miles now (since I bought it from nug) I have had no probs.and 4xs killer p/t d/r(l.s.d.)sedan. Problem is: When I slowly raise the rpms,it has a consistant slight flutters. till about 3000+ and then it goes away. When im driving at or in normal conditions you can always feel it pulse constantly .even when you floor it. I ran Lucas injector cleaner thru, I changed the plugs(old ones had alot of use,but had evedinces of proper burning) no leaks (in dark) on the plug wires, O'reillys gave me a carby cap/rotor so i couldnt change that, but cleaned up the old ones and they looked good.(can still have hidden probs). Some days it still fludders but seems to haul ss alot quicker. my thoughts were (since ive seen the tack jump a few times),that the distributer bushings are wore?,Or possably the injectors/fuel system might need some attention? Im sure alot of you guys will help me figure it out since youve probably been there done that. thanks.mkc My friend hates accell coils and it has one.(is it the coil)? P.s. Its been 6 weeks (busy)I want to thank Nug and Meekymoose for all there help in making my 2400 mile r/trip alot easier to get the RX and the wheels home to the ozarks. and tony, those German subaru factory 14s look killer,I have had people ask were can they get a set:slobber: you were right,I (may) never see another set in the U.S.
  11. Is there any I.D. tad on each trans? like the rear diff.has? and p.s. (i dont mind "hijack coments" as you say.) Ive owned 6 brats, (single range)78/79/ (dual range)81/82/83/83,and 4 stationwagons D/R),a gl 10 turbo sedan, and the same wagon, and an 85 rx part time d/r +l.s.d. and I have worked the hell out of these things for years and the ONLY problems i ever had was my fault.(1) burried in snow in lewistown mt. 81 d/r 4spd brat,i reved it to 5000 and dumped the clutch in reverse and broke that gear. drove it for 5 more years and dumped an 83 trans in there. (2) was ran it a 79 brat i ran it out of gear oil. and my experiance is that they all shift from front to four, high to low,at any decent non abusive speed, and have never had any probs.that is what they are designed for in my opinion. but remember, ther are lots of other ways to destroy any transmission/gearbox.
  12. Everytime I read anything about an RX,it seems that it always is directed toward the 3 door coupe. I was in Aurora Co.going thru a junk yard and saw an 88? 3 door and it was f/t d/r. w lsd. I think that the 85-86 rx were sedans?(right)and they had on demand hi/lo,and few were lsd? And the 87-89s were all f/t with center diif lock/ rear lsd? If thats correct, can any or all clarify the difference in the low range ratios of both trannys? I believe that they all were 3.70? thanks. And a couple of quick sube stories, for old time sake. I worked at the port of Portand,Or.in the late 80s and got to unload all models off the ships, thru a solvent cleaning process(protection from the elements in transport from japan) and thru undercoating and a/c install line and detail line, and then onto rail cars, and trucks to be delivered to dealerships.and man was that a blast. It seemed that every other drive way in the pnw had subes in them. I had an 81 gl brat 1800 d/r full guages (best sube i ever had) bought it as a trade in from Hanna subaru in Vancouver in 85 with 34000. I was hooked, snoqualmie,mt hood, ape caves ,washougal river road at 75+ and of course frenchmans bar partys. (you know).those were some good times, blablalaaa, Another fun time was in California,1983 my friend worked for subaru of america test facility in garden grove. they would leave orange county out the 91 fwy to redlands, up 38 to big bear, then on off road coarses,to the desert floor.then 62 through lander/29 palms and up 79 thru anza,murrieta,elsinore,74 ortega highway(death alley) and back to garden grove. I remember in 83 when he was driving 85 turbo rx,checker interior, air suspension.(actually worked ). talk about a fun job. not long after I got to see XTs that werent even seen yet,Anyone remember when they had that cool comercial on tv. were the dad was at home at the farm, and there was a mint 79 wagon in the driveway, and with the dad watching, here come an xt flying down the dirt road,(camera shows him locking it into 4wd), and throws it totally sideways at 55 and blast into the ranch.the dad says to the son "I thought you said you were gonna buy a subaru?" son replies ,"it is a subaru. that was from @ late 84/85. anyway, party on:cool:
  13. Thanx everyone for the input .I love the sedans.

  16. Im not sure about prices in seattle, but when i lived in southern cal in 1992,used japan engine was the way to go for me. I had an ea81 and replaced it with a low milage (dual carb) EA81 engine complete.I chose from a room full of subbys, and found the perfect engine that ROARED. air cleaner, alt.everything, and spottlesly clean. the guy told me that the engine was made in 1990. just got a fresh container ,and man my 81 gl dual range brat flew:burnout: then.I paid $ 395+tax. then and my freind and i went back to the same place 4 months ago (march) 2006 and they still had the same older style engines that were built only a couple years ago.and they now get $495+tax ea81/ea81t, ea82/ea82t $500+tax and er27 6cyl$550. the svx engine looked simalar but was $700.and was A BIT different. they had alot of other sube motors, didnt pay attention, didnt need one. the place was in Ontario Ca.Ill do a google search, p.s. they do cost as much as a beater sube,BUT IF YOUR NOT AN ENGINE BUILDER, THERE IS NOTHING AS GOOD OR AS STRONG AS A ORIGINAL FACTORY BUILT LOW MILE ENGINE.AND YES THE EA82/EA82TURBO ALL HAVE THE NEWEST UPDATED GENERATION CASTINGS.IN THIS CASE YOU DO GET YOUR MONEYS WORTH.THEY SELL TRANNYS TOO.MAYBE WE CAN GET IMPORTED ASIAN EJ D/R TRANNYS THAT THEY PUT IN THEIR CARS.ILL CHECK

  21. I Have ea82s myself,so maybe you folks in the newer sube section already know about the cool cars that we dont get imported to north america.I was searching for used engines and found this japanees import site. Then saw this FORESTER STI. the link didnt work,so type the adress below, scroll down to used subarus.and click on forester sti. anyway you can buy it and ship it to savana ga. there is a shipping cost calculater there also. there was also righthand drive wrx's for $2500,some cheaper and some higher. they also had a ton of other makes and models, front clips, motorcycles and parts.go to WWW.JAPAN-PARTNER.COM Then find the inventory list ,or Subarus they got a ton of cool rides. ENJOY.
