have you check to see if your temp. gauge is even right .that and just take a wire to the connecter to bridge it and your electric fan will stay on all the time when the key is on -

What year ea82 turbos are the better to use? I found a complete '86 xt turbo 4wd with 106k on it. I don't know if it runs, but I'm gonna go back in the next couple of days and try and get the whole car.

I was in "stupid mode" one night(about 10 yrs ago)and was going down the highway in my 1981 Subaru station wagon 2wd--my first Subaru ever-- all it had for an exhaust was the y- pipe to the resignator and if I got on it and shifted into the next gear--a big ol' glow would come out from under it(backfire that is!)and what I didn't notice the last time I did it--that there was a State Trooper passing me going the opposite direction. Soon as he had seen that, he turned around and had come after me--I went into "stupid mode" and off we went!! We went about 2 miles and come to a 90 degree turn which I took at about 85 miles per hour. And then I kept going for about another 15 miles, by this time now there is 5 State Troopers behind me and finally they ran me off the road. After they had cuffed and stuffed me, they took me back to the station and were asking me why I did it and they told me that they were amazed at how fast I was going in a Subaru station wagon. They said my top speed clocked out at 110 mph! They said I was going so fast that they were setting up a road block that I had passed BEFORE they had even had it set up! They said that a week before that-they were chasing a Dodge Daytona and it only topped out at 102 mph. Now 4 tickets later I got bailed out then a month and a half later went to court for the tickets there were supposed to be four(as just stated) 1) for doing 85mph in a 35mph 2) passing on the right 3) driving to endanger 4) trying to elude State Police Something was on my side that day because only one ticket came up---passing on the right--the other three were lost! Cost me $50.00 for that ticket and $550.00 for the damage that I had done to the police cruiser Fun ride huh!?!?

what offsets are most commonly used when it comes to an '86 brat with the pk 3/3? Have most of you adjusted the suspension to it's fullest lift, or have you just left it at factory suspension height and just did the body lift?

to whoever has put an xt6 motor in an e81: what do you have to use for a transmission? Can you use the e81 or do you have to use the e82? Do you have to move the radiator or is there enough space?

15 days to make a Brat inspection-ready. *gulp*
junkyardgabe replied to Geiiga's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I am junkyardgabe's woman (born and raised in Maryland)and the best thing I can tell you is --- That the inspection is 2 staged because on top of having the vehicle inspected--you then need the emissions tested as well at a different station. Maryland inspection stations are usually very -very - very- very strict because they want everything to look stock and look like factory. Your best best is to get it regestered in Kansas. -
Vanishing Transmission Fluid ?
junkyardgabe replied to trooperjeep's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the only thing is with doing that --is that the front diff is supposed to have gear oil and not atf, which means the gear oil is contaminated. And the final drive gear will wear out quick, you will know this when it will only shift from 1st to 2nd and not into drive.(I realize you said it shifts great right now). Pretty simple to fix--but I've been driving mine like this for almost 3 years now, I bought mine this way w/the gear already stripped and changed it in 2 seconds, so just put the tranny sealer to the automatic and drain the front diff and put 2 and 1/2 quarts of Lucas oil additive. It'll get you by for awhile. -

front end vibration (UPDATE 11-13)
junkyardgabe replied to electryc_monk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
most bearings look good to the eye and feel alright but like what you described when you turned left or right its got to be a wheel bearing because the bearing is shifting into the proper place one way and out the other -
Loosing power on hills/ no codes found
junkyardgabe replied to Chris W.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
how many miles does it have on it you might be needing a new cat that why most of mine lost power the easy way to tell is go to your local lube place and buy a bottle of wynns v.i.c. fuel injection cleaner and run it through your pcv line with a funnel and hose this will clear your cat temporarly and give you some power back for a couple of months then it will go back to no power slowly -
heater blower motor and high beam relay locations?
junkyardgabe replied to a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
with every subaru I've owned and it usually is mouse or chippy related so just pull your heating duct apart and another thing to check is if your getting vacuum to the control panel . the heater motors are usually fairly easy to get to unless you have a/c -
