  1. OK..... some weirdness going on here. 1995 Legacy 2.2 98K. AC compressor cycles on and off and air gets nicely cold. However, randomly and frequently now, it decides to cycle off and then won't cycle back on again for some time. Car get's hot, windows go down and then it just starts to work OK again.:-\ All fans work fine. The charge seems to be fine. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Todd
  2. Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. Paul....you are a mess!
  3. Anybody have ideas, suggestions, or options to manage a light surface rust covering the bottom of a Gen 1 ? Car is a southern car, so no salt rust, but the car was never undercoated, so after 30 years, there is surface rust present all over the bottom. Again, the car is sold as a rock though. Can this be pressure washed and then sealed? Whats a good product to convert surface rust and seal? Your thoughts? Thanks
  4. The Gen 1 cars 77-79 are often lumped in with the BRATs in databases. The BRATs have "adjustable" struts. The cars do not. However, the complete car strut will fit the BRATs just fine, if you want to go that way. The difference is a VERY small height difference. So: All "complete" struts interchange on all gen one BRATs AND cars. The original Gen one car strut insert is different from the original Gen one BRAT insert. (The whole strut is different). Often times I have found Gen one car struts on BRATs. So in that case, the specified strut insert for the BRAT will not fit. If you see adjustment bolts on the outside side of the strut....it's a BRAT strut. Hope this helps.
  5. Super. My car got some hail from it being blown in under the carport. We had tennis balls here the other night. THANK GOD I saved all the cars, but the Legacy hood! Todd
  6. Will all the hoods, (with or without scoop), exchange between all models of the Legacy/Outback from 1995 -1999? Thanks! Todd
  7. Keep it stock until you are really more familar with it. Engine transplanting is no easy feat and you have a solid engine in there. After all you want to enjoy the car, not have it apart for a year. Check www.car-part.com Have fun!! Todd
  8. Hey Guys: Will a standard 15" steel wheel with a tire fit in the spare tire sump and allow the cover to lay down flat? I'm looking to replace the temp spares on (2) 95 Imprezas, (1) 91 Legacy and (1) 95 legacy (all sedans/coupes). Thanks, Todd
  9. Well, if you need to haul or tow.....Subaru won't cut it. So that's why I have 1 Astro in my stable with the 6 Subarus. Your right...is's no good in snow. (What little we get in Texas). I sure hope Subaru never drops the manual transmission option!!
  10. Well, the Astro has only 70K on it and is in perfect condition. It gets used all the time for hauling things around and it can also tow if needed. I almost did sell it, but now thankful I didn't. It was my Moms before and just was too big for her. She got the Forester. Believe it or not, it gets nearly the same mpg as the Forester!
  11. I believe the SOHC 2.5 was 1st in the 2000 Legacy, but started in 99 for the Forester and Impreza. Todd
  12. Thanks for the good info. Yea, the car never overheated, I just saw the green coolant start dripping from the gasket. It increased in cold weather. If you looked at the headgasket from the bottom on a cold morning, it would be dripping. It stopped after warm up obviously. Yes, the dealership was great and the mechanic there is a Japanese guy ; trained in Japan with Subaru. A great mechanic! If I sell, I will post here. Big decision. Do I need to add this to the stable? LOL I like the space in the Forester! 1995 Impreza FWD 1.8 70K 1995 Impreza AWD 2.2 59K 1995 Legacy AWD 2.2 93K 1978 Subaru wagon Automatic 64K 1979 Subaru wagon 5 speed 88K 1979 Dodge Colt twin stick 64K 1994 Chevrolet Astro 4.3 72K Too many cars! LOL
  13. I ran across some old info. I believe that these shocks may fit the rear of GEN 1 wagons, sedans, coupes and BRATs. Monroe Matics # 33097 ALSO fits: 81-87 Ford Granada 78-83 Ford Fairmont 79-86 Mercury Capri 81 Mercury Cougar 82-86 Mercury Marquis Todd

  15. Are you in Muncy PA? I'm interested in the dash and could have my father pick it up. (He's in Jersey Shore). I'm in TX, but I can ship it back when I visit. Thanks! Todd
  16. I was VERY fortunate to have Subaru replace the orginal headgaskets on my mother's 99 Forester last month under warranty. The vehicle had 85K on it. (She drives very little). I noticed the increasing external leak on the drivers side and because I alerted Subaru in the past to the situation.... they covered it. I also had a new rear seal, and separator plate replaced at the same time. Subaru has always been good to me. My question: What is the reliability of this SOHC 2.5 when it has the NEW Subaru headgaskets in it now?? Is it as solid as my 95 2.2s? I know it's noisier! How many miles will these go when compared to the early 2.2s? Mom now has decided to not drive anymore and I'm not sure what to do with this vehicle. It's in GREAT shape and fresh out of the Subaru garage. Thanks, Todd
  17. Got a ton-o-stuff for your car too. Todd
  18. Hey guys....is there a single, common culprit that causes the gear shifter to rattle when cruising? I know on the Gen 1s it's usually the bushing at the base if the shifter. There are alot of bushings and insulators in the shifter , I just know it's not all of them. Car has 73K 1995 Impreza 2WD 5 speed Thanks, Todd
  19. There are some areas that are kinda flaky rust, but it all very, very dry in there. I'm going to get that filter to save the radiator.
  20. Hey! What are the best options when "recommissioning" and installling an engine that has been in storage for years? This is a Dodge Colt (Mitsu) engine with 10K on it. The engine is perfect except there is rust, (not horrible), in the coolant passages of the block. I don't want to tear the engine down. Can I clean as much as possible? How? Then install a coolant filter like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Tefba-1-1-2-Coolant-Filter-Classic-and-Sports-Cars-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem35af8755edQQitemZ230578148845QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks, Todd
  21. Hey Dan!!! Loved the video. I did the same thing with my wagons. It was a blast!
  22. Most of the time it's the VR and not the Alt. Todd
