  1. Very good price! You will have some wiring issues as the 96 is OBD2 and the earlier is not. I don't think your original car has EGR either. I think you can easily switch the manifold and be fine. (But I'm not sure.) Otherwise, the engine should be "essentially" the same.

  4. I've heard that the plastic ones develop leaks. Heard alot of this lately too!! (Related to age/not mileage) Most people think it's their rear seal. (I've never seen a leaking rear subaru seal, even with 100s of 1000s of miles. Even on the old EA71s!) Anyway, I'm replacing my 2 . One when I do a clutch and the other one at some point. The plate cost $12. It's a direct changeout.

  6. There are companies that can "restore". They strip and refinish with new foam and vinyl. It's pricey though. Check hemmings or search online for auto dash restoration. I've heard you can get a nice finish from what Jon is doing. Sand the crack, bondo, sand and paint with vinyl paint and a textured roller. Todd
  7. Coverlays STINK! I have had many of them and the look is terrible. They are a hard plastic and look cheap to me. Additionally, EVERY one I had warps in the summer sun, adding to the cheap look. They warp even if you adhesive them in. You might be OK in the north if you even like the look. Never again. They are way over priced now too. Coverlay stopped making the Gen 1 cover in the late 90s. I bought directly from them the last few they had at that time. They were $46. Stick to dash restoration or a nice upolstered custom dash pad. Just my opinion. Todd
  8. When did Subaru switch to the aluminum cover vs. plastic?? (year) Is it really that important to switch this cover, if you have the engine out? Thanks, Todd
  9. "Ordinary People" 1980 Robert Redford/Mary Tyler Moore. It's a red wagon. Good exterior shots and some interior.

  13. Talked on the phone last night with him for a couple hours. I pushed him in the right direction. He should have it running soon. It's just matching up the "mix and match parts"!
  14. If he gets a buyer......then that's his market. I'll bet there is only one or 2 like these left in existence. NADA can't accurately quote any price, without a market to look at.(and these certainly have a limited market) Remember, that alot of the people that look at these are now in there 30s. 40s and 50s. People who grew up these cars/ People in there prime earning years. I seriously doubt he will sell at his price, but it's certainly worth more than 1/4 of that. JMHO Todd
  15. I did the same thing. Transplanted a 1979 intake and emissions onto a 1980 motor. Not a hard thing and you don't have to use all the wires. Too many questions and too much to type.   16. Well again ,it's supply and demand. Prices are GOING to go up. Theres no doubt about it. $500-1000 Subys are soon to be a thing of the past in the Gen 1 era. Cars in that price range are for cars between the end of there original useful life and the beginning of classics. These gen 1s are now past 25 years and classics. $500-$1000 can get you a 1985 Civic or a good used Ford Escort. I think this price is too high, but I hope he can get it! (Helps my collection appreciate) There are always good deals to be found, but the general trend is going to be "appreciation", NOT "depreciation". History proves that. Todd

  19. No...no noise when clutch depressed or released while sitting still. It's only when you add "load or torque/twist" during movement. And never a noise in the hot summer, only when the car is cold and only till it gets warmed up. It completely temp related. Maybe the mount is loose and as it heats up it expands tight enough to stop the noise? (I will check it again) Todd
  20. Pretty sure.....it's tied to engine torque. Very noticeable in winter and right after you start moving cold. Nothing after warm up and nothing ever in Texas summer! Only winter. I drive low miles on this car. Squeaks when I let on and off the gas. Todd
  21. Nice! I know my automatic wagon is my favorite! Make sure you tape WELL on that window rubber, before painting. It's hell if the paint starts to peel. Todd

  23. How about the question of time between oil changes? What if you put 1000 miles a year on a car? (no short trips) Can you go 3 years between oil changes? ( I use Mob #1 exlusively) How long is synthetic good with VERY low mileage? Todd
