  1. No Gen 1 came to America with factory AC. It was added state side, with a few different systems that were SUBARU "sanctioned". One was the mini York system. It was the big square compressor. One was the Sanden 507 system. Rotary compressor. Many systems were made by Lone star air. Most Gen 1s in southern climates had the AC installed. I have run across very few in TX that did not have AC. How many miles on your BRAT? I might be interested in the evaporator. Do you have a pic of it? Todd
  2. Yep....the site is down for now. I am in the process of finding a professional to build it up and update it. Don't worry ...it will be back!!! If anybody with web expertise is interested in helping me or sharing ownership of this site...that would be WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I own: www.vintagesubaru.com I'd like to move it from the AOL server Todd
  3. DR RX Yes, my Impreza is automatic. Now as for codes...if you have the plug and are OBD2, you need a code reader. Many parts stores will read this code for free. (AutoZone/Orielys, ect) If you are OBD1, you have to connect wires under the dash and look for the sequence of flashes on the dash. (I'm not an expert on OBD1s, so I hope the board members will add to this.) Todd
  4. The ECU is located behind a steel panal, under the carpet, on the passenger side. Toward the front of the floor. It is most likely OBD1, but I have a late 1995 Impreza L, that is indeed OBD2. Depends on the manufacture date. If there is a small plug connector under the lower left side of the dash, it's OBD2. (It's behind a little door) Todd
  5. How can I save those pictures on that? It's "Flash" and right clicking doesn't work. Todd
  6. My package arrived today......I am more than pleased! Let me know if you need The fuji stuff, or I might just list it on ebay. Thanks! Todd
  7. Brian...thanks for your response. And also thanks for being an asset to this board. I think most people just fear being taken advantage. When no communication is forthcoming, people fear the worse. Certainly, none of the items are "crucial", but it's the prinicipals of the verbal agreement being broken. So, let this be a lesson to all of us. JUST COMMUNICATE. All will be alright if a package is late being shipped or if the payment is late being sent. " The sun will rise tomorrow" Keep the communication flowing and no feelings will get hurt. Now Brian...if you can use......I have a ton of NOS/FUJI bearings and other internal engine parts for the 1400. Can you use this? Todd
  8. Gosh, this is such a touchy situation for me. I hate to point fingers, but certain things are acceptable and other things are not. When someone has difficulty in shipping something....communication is KEY! When communications fail repeatly and money has been paid for no goods or services, that's fraud! When I buy, I pay promptly and when I sell, I ship promptly. Check my ebay feedback "vintagesubaru". I have now been burned out of nearly $150 of my money for parts/items I have never recieved from people I met on this board. I'm getting VERY hesitant, if not unwilling, to do transactions on this board in the future! (Except for a few that I have established relationships with.) I'm now having an issue with Tailgatewagon. He solicited me, I paid the agreed amount 4/2. Still nothing. Phone calls/messages and emails get no response?????? Brian, you seem like a really nice guy, but situations like this are not healthy for our on-line community. Sure it's only $40, but still! I'm giving the benefit of the doubt a while longer. Maybe he's been busy, in a car wreck. Time will tell. Anybody else hear from him recently? Todd
  9. Mike...you were right with the phone message....."whale of a tale"!!! Hey, I'm looking for the other BRAT. It was in Frisco. I'm off Tues-Thurs. Call me. Now you rest and recover. Don't worry about the BRAT....it's replacable. You are DAMN lucky you are not dead, or at the least a para or quad! You need to go to Vegas!!!!! Todd
  10. Oh, no offense taken. I was just commenting in my impressions of my FWD. Todd
  11. The 2WD Imprezas are fine cars! I have an AWD and a 2WD and the gas mileage difference is significantly better in the 2WD. I get well over 30 on the highway. I like the handling of it better than my AWD too. You also don't have to worry about torque bind and duty C issues. The 2WDs will last and last. I'll bet this one overheated pretty bad and blew a gasket. (Always watch your temp!) The car is worth something for sure! I would get it and either re-seal , or find a 1.8 or a 2.2 and fix it. The 2.2 would need a harness though. I would stick to the EJ 1.8. Less work and not a heck of a lot of difference from th 2.2.
  12. Remember, most 2WDs, with the exception of the automatics. were Nippondenso. The BRAT was Hitachi. The electronics are incompatable unless you switch the control unit too.
  13. I guess I have 3 duds.
  14. I'm taking a survey on how Gen1 owners, with rear window defrosters, feel about how they work. On my GF and both wagons, THEY STINK! The wires on the glass are not broken, (you can see each line as they heat and start to defog), the battery is good and the alternator is good. The contacts, where the wire plugs on, is good. They just all seem weak. Could it be the low output alternator? Is it just a gen 1 thing???? There is simply NO comparison between my Imprezas and the gen 1s. The Imprezas clear PRONTO!
  15. It's a steal! The 80 on eBay is $2500 now! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4538720473&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT I think I might list my 80 BRAT. Todd
  16. Sounds like the imput shaft seal. Easy fix, but you have to pull the engine or tranny and separate to get it. Todd
  17. Well, it was the oil pump! The screws on the back plate were loose, the oil ring was severely compressed and there was a crack in the back plate too. These pumps are a bit_ cH_ to get off, but the new one went right on! (Gosh I love using my new parts instead of just moving them around the workshop!) At any rate, it starts without a knock and the oil light goes out immediately! (Just like my other 3) Thanks for all the feedback!! Todd
  18. I'm going to change the oil pump. I'll let you know the results. My oil light never comes on when running, it's just on for a few "extra seconds" at start up. That's when I have the knock. The knock stops and the light goes out at the same time.
  19. Thanks for the feedback! I think I will start with the oil pump. I have 6 cars and it's not driven alot and it has, at the most, had 10- 15 starts this way. I think until I replace the pump.....I'll flood it a sec to prevent it from starting right away and let it crank the oil pump a bit first. (Heck, this might be an excuse to put in one of my 3 spare engines) Todd
  20. There's an example of that rule working against us. I will email her and get the information. Todd
  21. For that matter, how about a nice 1979 wagon or BRAT???? How would that have to change to bring up to todays standards!! I'd buy it! Todd
  22. Using the Purolater equivilent of the Subaru filter....NOT EVER A FRAM!! LOL Todd
