  1. how often does it exist and does it exist? i posted a thread asking about it but i think my title was unattractive (just bought the new impreza) -previous thread
  2. after looking at someone elses torque bind thread....i put air in all of the tires once i got it..and they were all very low like only 10 to 14 psi in them im not sure how long the ppl have been driving it like that
  3. with almost 193 thousand miles on it..as soon as i got it i took it on some dirt roads wayyy more fun than in a truck...however i have a few questions for u guys that have the 2.2 5-speed (my car is 96 impreza L 2.2 5-speed awd) whenever i let the clutch out in reverse it makes an angry noise and shudders like a ***************...when i pull out in first i guess it could prolly be the same thing but i dont take notice as i accelerate right aways Is this what everyone talks about torque bind? i misunderstood and thought torque bind was only on the automatics Also when you guys are in the car can u hear the engine very distinctively? i have a 93 1.8 and i can hear the engine a little but not like the ej22 the sound is loud and somewhat annoying like a scratching sound only when i tap on the gas otherwise is smoothes out to normal(its probably normal) but who knows i thought the sticky shifting in my 93 was normal untill i got this car...shifts like a dream and its got ALOT of miles I should also add...i checked the oil and it was a little low, could be the problem? im changing the oil tomorrow so ill find out i wanna start modding the car not so much that annoying teenager neon ************ (no offense to u guys with the loud fart pipes, im also only 18) but thinking about the struts and a little more solid suspension with a few skid plates over some of the vital parts...i was taking it on some trails tonight haha and think i might have bumped the oil pan...everythings good tho any ideas on cheap "rally mods" im not gonna get serious like racing or anything...but watching the trail of smoke behind me is "sick with it" (pa term)
  4. was there ever a thread on how to replace the sensor?...i've honestly never heard of it before but i figured there would be a sensor like that in there....is it located right above the crank pulley?
  5. someone else on the board told me the same thing....i just wanted a second opinion... great help
  6. im buying a 96 impreza 2.2 5-speed tomorrow with 193,000 miles on it....the guy says its always been serviced on time and properly but theres only one problem he says that sometimes it doesnt wanna start he took it to a local subaru "specialist" and they say its the crankcase sensor...is it cheap? is it easy to fix? is it not the problem at all? as soon as i get the car i wanna start troubleshooting for possibly weaknesses im getting the car for only 1000 dollars which i feel is a steal any feedback of what you think would be appreciated i've searched and seen that theres many of guys that have gone this far on ur ej22 also, any bizarre problems?
  7. yea im not concerned at all...i was also wondering any other maintainance issues that go along with a 200k car...im pretty sure they had the clutch and timing things all replaced before...ill be recieving all the records when i buy the thing thanks for the reply
  8. haha nothing bad...i just finally found the car i've been searchin for for so long its a 96 impreza L AWD 2.2 liter coupe maroon everything matches exactly as what i wanted except its not black and its got 200,000 miles however the ppl that own it are the original owners and they always had it serviced on time it was the "wifes baby" and the people seem real honest about the maintenance i only had one scare when me and the husband took it for a test drive we pull out "a lil sketchy" for my tasting and then BAM were in second gear going through countryu roads, the guys shifting at 4000 rpm's and downshifting when its still at like 2500.... i ask him if this is the way he always drives it (thinking he was just trying to show off the power)and he says "yea why" is it just me or should u normally shift around 3000? luckily hes only been driving it for 6 months b/c the wife got a new saab hense the reason there selling this he only wants $1000 and the car seems like its in incredible shape, other then body work and theres a problem where he says sometimes it wont start...he has tape over the check engine light b/c he says its annoying and the ppl at the garage say its just from "vibration"? when i asked if he knows why it doesnt start he sayd that one of the mechanics sayd that its due to a sensor on the crankshaft? any idea of how much that would cost or what it might be causing the problem thanks for reading even tho it was a bit long sean
  9. get the kayaking gear.....i may be able to use some haha whitewater/playboat if they ask what kind of paddler are you
  10. it only gets better i have an idea of what i'll need but no specific part numbers or anything that'd be a huge help if u could do that for me, thanks sean
  11. are there any links on the web that will have a picture of the timing belt and have all the pulleys labeled
  12. 93 FWD 1.8 impreza http://community.webshots.com/myphotos?action=showPhoto&albumID=548832254&photoID=2061809330053449880&security=WvSDyU
  13. me and a friend are replacing all the things that go along with replacing a timing belt etc. i already had a mechanic replace the timing belt and a gear when my car broke down and i needed it done but now i dont have the money for a prof. to do it....and i found a friend with enough time to do it for me.... picture problems go here: http://community.webshots.com/myphotos?action=showPhoto&albumID=548832254&photoID=2061809330053449880&security=WvSDyU by the way this is someone elses picture from the board...i think a legacy however similiar if not alike to my engine i just edited what parts i had done (belt and gear) i wanna replace all the things that should be replaced...but dont know all the correct names for the parts when i order them and i dont wanna leave anything out i was figuring ill have all the tensioners, idlers, oil pump, water pump, seals and the o-ring i already have a new belt in there and a new gear (shown above) but what are the correct names for all the other pulleys n such...and what else have i missed that should be changed
  14. just in time...i recently just pulled off my studded tires b/c it was march 15th and thats just what u do....and im hearing an annoying chirp coming from what it sounds my rear driver side wheel..so right aways i figured it was my wheel bearing i always thought it was cheap to replace a wheel bearing i remember a few years ago my uncle had to replace his front wheel bearings and he did it himself...it could be possible that he used a press but my uncle is pretty old school... is it possible to remove them with a whole lot of elbow greese and some prying?...he pulled them outta an older ford if that helps at all
  15. when i do the swap...is it better for me to go ahead and put in a dual range..or just keep it stock so its less confusing howmuch of a difference would it be between tranny's is there gonna be ecu garbage to deal with? i have a 5-speed
  16. let me start by saying i have a 93 FWD impreza 5-speed...after looking for an awd 5-speed sedan for awhile and no luck i got a couple of friends together that know more than i do and are willing to help this summer as of now im trying to make a list of all the things im going to need for a FWD to AWD swap and trying to estimate how much money im going to pour into this if any of u guys have done this before possibly to your impreza or such feed me anything you know..i already know most of the basic stuff but i didnt start to look in-depth yet for what ill need for the drivetrain and etc. and if u've done it before and remmber how much it came out to be also let me know...unless i cant find what i need everything will be from the junk yard excluding things like clutch which needs to be replaced the way it is.. im in no hurry and we arent going to start this untill summer unless the one guy finishes his jeep sooner hopefully i dont get in too deep and abort mission half way through alot of this will all be new to me as a learning experience ...but these guys should do fine they've been trashing there jeeps and rebuilding them way before they even had there license sean
  17. thanks for the input but i've talked with my uncle and were prolly gonna do it once i get my refund in..
  18. anybody replace a clutch before on there impreza FWD and happen to live close to the allentown region of Pa im goin to need my clutch repaired soon my throw out bearing is getting worse...and instead of paying a fortune to a mechanic to do it....maybe one of u guys wouldnt mind making some money and then that way i can see how its done i live in nesquehoning pa 18240 thanks
  19. i had the same problem....and it was one of my idlers.....the noise went on for about a week then the bearing basically blew up and left me stranded althought the car started back up fine and ran i didnt wanna run it longer....so i had the mechanic put in a new timing belt and idler thats all i had money for...however now im experiences the same noise again not constant just everyso often....but sooner or later it will get worst and it'll break again if i was u try and find someone that can do it for u for cheap and get the whole thing done...cuz now ill be taking my car back in to get all the tensioners, idlers, seals, and pump done...that way its done of course im waiting for my tax refund before i do it all
  20. its wrx sti....just incase u ask around on a diff forum i witnessed a guy get hammered for posting a thread about the 2007 sti on www.nasioc.com srry i cant help ya i have a 1.8 FWD impreza theres no power and no awd but it is 5-speed and its fun as hell to drive...when i pretend it has awd and go on the dirt roads around my house:banana: i have 150,000 miles on my car and it runs great...although the fwd works well in the snow im still on the lookout for an awd model good luck
  21. i have a 5-speed impreza FWD and it drives me nuts that its not awd..the throwout bearing is going and i dont wanna invest any more money into it if im going to try and buy one with awd...however i cant seem to find one that isnt automatic.....and the thought of swapping drivetrains seems like its too over my head to do....i do have a friend that owns a garage and if i can find a good thread(monkey see monkey do) i could prolly figure it out Should i keep lookin for an awd model...or take on the project if someones done this before i'd give ya cash to help me out with the project (learning experience for me, and untaxed money for u) where i live its nothing but jeeps and trucks...and i would love to have my lil subie keepin up in the trails plus how sweet would it be to show up at a mt. party in a subaru impreza parked next to a rubicon on 32's if someone would be willing to work with me on this...i live in Nesquehoning Pa 18240....im in no hurry...whenever u would have the time i would make time hope to hear from someone
  22. 1. whats a normal idle speed on a 93 fwd impreza 5-speed ..i had a mechanic replace my timing belta few weeks ago and everything seemed fine untill today i started to hear the gargle noise from the engine not always...but once in a while since i deliver chinese food haha:banana: im constantly gettin in and out of my car while the engine is running so i can hear the differences... and whats it take to go in there and replace the seals and all that stuff...when my bearing blew up i had a mmechanic look at the car and find the problem...when he told me the bearing was shot i told him to replace the belt too...only thinking about getting my car back i forgot to ask him to replace the seals and sh*t and i didnt wanna ask him to replace the pumps cuz he was kinda working with my finicially the way it was..can i take the covers off and "inspect" things myself or would i have to screw with the timing belt and prolly throw something off? 2. i wanna replace my clutch...but i've never done it before anyone out there wanna make a couple of bucks and help a young lad install a clutch kit im new to most mechanics but i understand common sense and could prolly do it myself if i use a manuel and some tips but i dont wanna mess anything up with the adjustments and burn my clutch..... not gonna do it any time soon cuz were definately in winter yet...but possibly this summer when i get more money to pay for it and the weather is nice
  23. why synthetic so soon??? i get confused with the pro's n cons of synthetic whats ur reason
  24. nah bro thats great help...i def didnt wanna replaced the whole thing if i didnt need to...i just wasnt sure if it was easier to just do the whole thing...and u sayd that the boot is only a dust shield so then it shouldnt be that much of a problem to that side...i just know on the side where the wheel is the ball joint looks like sh*t... however today i went ahead and changed the brakes and rotors although the old ones were fine with plenty of meat left i kept thinking it was the rotors and since they were a little rusty i figured it will just be a preventative rapair so i slap it all together in 50 mph winds today....prolly picked the worse day this month to do it....however once my hands thawd i took the car for a run and when i braked it stopped smooth no thumps only a little squeel but that should fade once there broken in....im so glad i went ahead and did that rather then spending the time and money to fix the tie rod ends and that not be the prob....but in the future i think i will replace the ends.... my girlfriends cars' tie rod broke when she was turning out of a parking lot onto the road...she waqs scared ************less the car just didnt move and cars were coming...i'd like to prevent that from happening again
