West Coast Subaru Show #8 date and venue decided.
Cool..I'm in. Since I've been there before, now I know to "prepare" for a sunny location (Heavy shade is my preference, but the "togetherness" is more important). Need to find a carwash nearby, tho:rolleyes: . Hooray for the mud pit, I had a real gas in there:grin: . IIRC, there was a good Mexican food place in town. Gotta find a different route though..going through that canyon north of Bend (Indian res) during daylight was unbearable with no A/C:-p . NV and CA guys (AZ?), we'll coordinate as time goes by.

Why it sucks to own a subaru.
NV Zeno replied to dino's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSure, but we got hammered with lots-o-rain just before the snow dumped:(.

Turned 298K today...
I've seen "100,000 Mile club" stickers on some Chevys, but that's a huge accomplishment for anything GM. Re: the link above. When I first got online, I found that site and soon found a link to the USMB..the rest is history:grin: .

Turned 298K today...
..But I missed "the Big Rollover" 'cuz I was too busy sliding around (WAHOOO!!) in the 5" of snow covering the state headquarters parking lot for the DOT/DMV/ Highway Patrol. It was worth seeing the faces on the people inside watching "some old guy in a Subaru" doing doughnuts in their lot (heh heh), but missed seeing all those numbers change. Guess I've seen a lot of "rollovers" by now, but I want to make sure I get pictures of the change to 300,000. Only 1997 miles to go:) !

Tow hooks and tow straps discussion
Long is good. You'd be surprised at how short a 25 foot strap is when off the road. I've got a 4 inch wide 50-footer, hooks on each end. My 2 bucks

EA82 Fan Delete
Leave it stock (like you didn't expect that from me:rolleyes: )..why mess with something that works? Do you REALLY think by removing the A/C components you'd feel a power gain? Just leave it turned off during hotlapping sessions. There's so little drag that it's not even noticeable (until you turn it on, of course:grin: ). My 2 bucks.

Rapid Fire Noise **FIXED*
I had a speed related noise from under the car, couldn't locate it for a long time. Turned out to be the driveshaft u-joints. Always worth a look-see:) . Just my 2 bucks

Ea81 heater control valve removal?
Come to think of it, I believe I had to trim some of the pipes too:drunk: .

Ea81 heater control valve removal?
Mike, as I recall from replacing both the core and the HCV, the HCV was relatively easy (keep in mind this was a long time ago, around the time of WCSS3), I may have hooked up the hoses from the engine side backwards (if it even matters), but that part of the job was straightforward. The toughest part for me was putting it all back together perfectly. Remember: Duct tape is your friend:lol: . Works great for me, except I either broke or goofed something up when reassembling all the controls..it still ain't right, but I've got lots-o-heat:brow: and no leaks. Mick's got some great pix and explanations (thanks again).Good luck!

Got my new block... the verdict is in!
You have wheels to get you around, no need to rush the job..do it right:) . (Slight hijack) What time did it start snowing?

Spare Parts for Road Trip
As far as carrying extra parts...usually something that's easily replaced on the side of the road, or more importantly, something that I may not have much confidence in to make the whole round trip. Currently, I carry an extra CV axle, alt belt, jumper cables, tools, flashlight, oil, coat hanger, rags and a few other small things (WD40, flares, etc.). I just make sure the car is in tiptop condition before leaving..battery, oil, tire pressure/condition, coolant system OK, that kind of stuff. I've made successful round trips to 3 WCSSes, a couple of legs solo (kinda scary) without a breakdown (you know the age and mileage of my rig:rolleyes: ). The lack of AC made most of the trips miserable, but no breakdowns. Just be prepared.

Saabaru?
NV Zeno replied to iteamsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou'd be surprised at the "similarities" in price between the two. I was strongly considering going in on a fleet deal offered through one of the major car rental agencies for a new 9-2..sweet deal, much less than a WRX.

Reno/Carson City Yard run, Saturday 12/17
Brian, Haven't been to the PnP in several weeks, but there always seems to be plenty of EA82s there. (what's up with the bold font? I didn't change anything) Just because the car wasn't damaged doesn't mean the engine's not good. There are lots of cars that are brought in from California..Truckee, Tahoe (CA side) area in particular. Many of those merely failed the smog test required for California or urban Reno emissions, and were junked because of that. I'm sure that's also why you see so many seemingly undamaged older cars in Sacto yards. Might want to keep that in mind. Parents' 60th anniversary in Yuba City Saturday..no PnP for me. Good luck at the yards. Dress warm, the days have been in the 30s~low 40s this week:) .

Constant Speed Roughness
Keep up with you on the trails? Heck, I was keeping up with Jibs' lifted BRAT:lol: ! Film at 11.:-p

Constant Speed Roughness
Thanks for the replies. I haven't pursued it much in the last couple of days, been too cold (and I've been too lazy:lol: ) and I thought I'd take a break from it for awhile to compile the info you all have provided. Brian, if you're looking for an EA81 or 82, I'm sure we could find something for you around here easily..only you have to live here to be able to register without smog check (Jeremy's part of Washoe county has smog check, mine does not). Now's your chance to bail out of "Calitreehuggerenvironmentalwackofornia" Retire my wagon? Why? it's only got 297K, plenty of life left!

Wheelin Vids Up! (WCSS7 & Moonrocks)
WooHOO!! I'm a movie star! Great stuff, JB. Almost forgot about the little mud pit at WCSS, but I'll always remember Ted's "suddenly smoky" wagon:lol: .

Constant Speed Roughness
Wires are Magnecor, a couple years old..checked for cracks and tightness, all OK. Car does not exhibit the symptoms of a bad plug wire, completely different from that. Spark plugs were replaced before the filters (filters last week). I removed the plugs a couple of days ago to inspect/clean. There was some black carbon buildup (nothing major) on most of them..cleaned with wire brush, re-gapped, replaced. No change.

Severe front end shaking
Just for clarification and not meaning to step on any toes here, but what you're looking for is the "axle assembly", which is more than just a boot..includes DOJ, axle shaft, CV Joint, boots, and sometimes the castle nut and roll pin. Ready to go. Usually about 50-75 bucks (plus ~$30 refundable core deposit) at a parts store. My experience is most brands are OK, but stay away from ARI branded axles. The NAPA stores around here sell them, but they have been pure junk right out of the box.

Constant Speed Roughness
That was the classic fuel starvation when a high demand for power was needed (any uphill grade, overpass, or strong head wind:lol: )

Constant Speed Roughness
'83 EA81 4WD 4MT, Hitachi Carb (California spec): OK..Over the last few hundred miles, this car has developed an odd problem. When just "goin' down the road" at partial throttle, the engine seems to kind of stumble the whole time, like a constant hesitation. Not any major loss of what little power this car has:rolleyes: , just a mild roughness to the way it runs. In addition, when accelerating, or "going through the gears", the engine seems to accelerate much better (like a sudden turbo boost) at around 3500 RPM, all the way to the time I have to let off and shift. I recently replaced both fuel filters (that cleared up another prob I had), spark plugs, cap and rotor, all well before this current issue started. Today I disconnected the vac advance line to see if there would be any difference. Test drove, no change..replaced vac line. I have guessed there could be two possibilities: shot vac advance, or carb problem of some sort. Choke works fine, idle is good and smooth (although a couple hundred high), no stalling or rough idle. Opinions, advice, educated guess? Thanks

Problem with my '06 Legacy. Please help!
NV Zeno replied to jptortor's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf you're not satisfied with the results or even the attitude of the dealer you went to, try another. I believe the city you have listed in your profile is large, so finding another dealer nearby shouldn't be a problem..couldn't hurt.

Calling all Hatchback drivers....normal or broke?
Yep, my wagon does that too. Was a real gas in traffic on US 50, around Cave Rock about 20 min. ago (very snowy). I let some air out of the rears (snows all around), it seemed to help some. Strange, sometimes leaving it in FWD is actually better (I said sometimes:) ). Just my 2 bucks
