  1. picked this up a couple days ago, 91' legacy, awd, 5-speed, wagon, power everything. and only 97k miles . and yes this was the one in portland CL a few days ago.. i snagged it up, drove like 8 hours round trip to get it.. was well worth it.. cleanest i have ever seen.. needs nothing.. well maybe a set of tires.. and rex wheels... coming from the east coast its a relief to find a scooby like this and not a million miles and rusted out.. lol
  2. next time i get the car in my driveway i'll check vac, and adjust the tps.. thank for the ideas..
  3. heh, no offense taken.. it is an 87 and it is SPFI.. i've built more subarus than most thats why its puzzling to me.. i believe 87 was also the last year for the dual range 4wd trans.. early 87's were carbed, late models years were spfi.. i've had a few of them when i was on the east coast that were 87's dual range4wd and originally bought in VA, and SPFI. 88's were pushbutton, carbs were discontinued. i've also had quite a few that were weber'd so thats how i know about that dead spot in a weber when you stomp the gas i just did the timingbelts yesterday.. (the idler locked up and it blew the drivers side cover off with the belt and idler) it was off a tooth beforehand tho because i had to go back and adjust the disty.. it actually as more power now than it did before hand but the problem is the same..
  4. ok, the cars an 87 gl wagon, ea82 spfi, dual range4wd, non ac car.. its got 287k, original.. runs like a raped ape, will almost bury the speedo, gets 30+mpg down the highway, does not smoke or have any other issues.. only thing i can't figure out is when its cold in the morning, any throttle at all and it will flat out die.. will idle just fine.. after it warms up its ok unless you sit at a light for a couple min and go to take off it tries to die unless you feather the trottle till it gets goin. if its just a short 30 sec at a light there is no problem at all.. and if you get goin an flat stomp it it acts like a weber and cuts out for just a split second before it takes off.. already done the colant temp sensor.. and its had a few other things done to it, oil pressure switch, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, new t-belts, oil pump seals, cv's, filters and i'm sure some other stuff.. i'm almost to the point where i think the throttle plate is just worn out after almost 300k, but i wanted to get some advise or see if anyone else has had this issue before..
  5. i just did a set on an 87 gl wagon yesterday.. everything lined up perfectly..no half tooth anything.. and thats even after teh idler locked up, exploded and blew the belt and cover off the drivers side
  6. just an update.. i forgot to post when i did the fronts... the front struts were different.. the gr-2's perch was almost 2" higher on the struts than the originals.. so now i have a legy that looks like its gonna take off.. so kyb did use the 4wd front strut for the 2wd.. thus causing the takeoff effect.. torch coming to a legacy near you...
  7. heh, well i instaled the new gr-2's on the rear of my legacy.. no funny issues at all, struts were identical to the originals.. when my other front gets here, they will go on tuesday if its nice outside..
  8. yeah i was noticng that in my search for srings.. i might do the carefull measurements and cut my springs.. sawsall works good for that and theres no heat
  9. anyone know if the 4wd rear springs are teh same as the ones on a 2wd? anyone know of a place that can get lowering springs for a 91' legacy lol.. i'm gonna be replacing all teh struts with kyb gr2's, already ordered them, just wanna drop it an 1"1/2 or so while i am at it... don't worry its a fwd car
  10. thats what i was afraid of.. ohh well, off to find some diff wheel sfor the ole legacy.. lol.. thanks
  11. will the 14's off a 91 legacy fit on an 01 outback that has 16's? or are the brakes too big on the outback.. i know its kinda a dumb question, but short of going out and trying to swap them myself in 10 degree weather, this is the best place to ask.. lol..
  12. i hadthe#4 misfirecode onmy 01 outback... only 65k miles... i went as far as swapping an injector with #2.. then i swapped the #4 WITH #2 WIRE.. reset and drove.. code flipped to #2 cyl.. so i knew it as the wire.. wven tho it woud shoot spark out the end of the wire 4" lol.. try swapping #2 ad 4 wires.. reset the ecu and see what pops code wise.. that will rule out the wire issue..
  13. gloyale---well, thats ok.. since i have lifted more soobs than most people on this board, and done more engine swaps, conversions etc.. i'm sure i'll figure it out.. if someone wants to share, great. if not, thats fine too.. and i don't Own a steel fab shop, just work in one, so i don't have hours to play with equipment to make stuff for my own personal profit, it is called a job for a reason.. would prolly take me 6 months of lunch breaks to make the lift anyways.. Shawn.. yeah i figured it was just 3" blocks so to speak.. and i still have a good idea of what the strut top mount looked like.. gotta get the mint wagon running first. still undecided on wether to lift or not since its sooo clean, lol.. if i do its only going to be a couple 3 inches.. 4" makes them too undrivable for daily use..
  14. i need to find out the dimensions for an ea82 wagon 3" lift.. all the blocks, spacers, etc.. since i work in a steel fab shop i can make my own lift for next to nothing, but i need to know all the dimensions.. sorry i can't make anything extra to sell.. shop liability and such..
  15. late 80's 3-door black, star edition no body kit tho, non turbo gl ...
  16. ok well, i got it fixed.. even though spark was blue and shooting 2" out of the end of plug wire #4 the wire was still bad.. i figured this out by swapping it with cyl 2. the miss then transfered to cyl 2.. a $30 set of wires from autozone and she's good as new.. still bugs me that a plug wire goes bad in 60k miles.. :/
  17. yeah skip, its me, we moved.. :/ well i've already ruled out bad gas, i ran it half missing until the fuel light came on, then filled it with super.. made no difference.. pulled the fuel filter and drained it into a glass jar to make sure there was no water in it.. i can pull the wires (still factory) from the coil pack or the engine while its running an visually watch a nice blue spark over 2 inches long arc.. makes no difference if i swap wires with another cylinder. check engine light always comes on, and code is always cyl 4 misfire.. and again, its only got 62k on it.. and its had seafoam run through when we drove it 1700 miles in one sitting in august..
  18. well i can hear them all clicking when its running.. the miss is sorta intermittent as it does fire on that cyl once in awhile.. usually over 2k rpms.. don't have a volt meter.. guess i need to go get one today :-\
  19. more of a rant than anything.. our 01' outback with only 62k developed a miss in cyl 4.. i swapped plugs, wires, etc.. to no avail... miss is still there.. only thing left is a bad fuel injector.. just burns my nuggets to have to replace a fuel injector at only 62k miles... especially when its 15 degrees outside.. BTW.. if you have one of these layin around, i really need one asap:-\
  20. moved from va to colorado springs.. was lookin for an old subie, and i found one blown HG but its mint, no rust dents, nothing, 5-speed non turbo dual range 4wd and i work in a custom steel fabrication shop, so i'ma fab up all kinds of neat stuff.. pics might come later..
  21. yeah, electronics. lame.. saw a honda rump roast end a brand new benz yesterday, the honda was lowered and it drove right up under the back of that 4 door benz, never scratched the bumper on the benz.. honda was crushed under the benz's back tires. the drivers side airbag went off in the benz.. hows that make sense huh? yeah, electronics are great..
  22. can't just t the lines from the valve covers to the pcv.. the drivers side needs to go to the pcv, pass side needs fresh air or vice versa.. been a little while since i build an ea82t..
  23. now in everything i found searching it doesn't say anything about using a stock ea81 crossmember, and ea82 dr 5-speed in a 4" lifted wagon... so since my wagon is lifted i shouldn't have to do much of anything as far as beating on my trans tunnel, etc to get it to fit right? and enlighten me on Jerry's kit ? didn't see anything specific on it. just a couple mentions of it.. thx
