  1. hey Frank... i need to go get a trans for my lifted wagon in the next month or so. if ya wanna wait, and come down we can prolly get together and go see my special friend with the soobie yard full of stuff, lol.. last tranny i got from him only cost me $150 so a diff will be less than $100 i'm sure.. we just gota pull it though. which we can flip that car upside down to get it out if we want i know he's got a 3.7 lsd sittin out there in a totalled rx sedan.. subaru never made a 3.9 ratio LSD in the ea81's.. only way to get one is combine the 2 diff's or find a VLSD like i have in my lifted wagon uness ya took the dual range turbo tranny and got a new clutch and adaptor plate too let me know.. prolly when i get tax money back is when the project will start.. he's got several ea81's, ea82's and ea71 vehicles out there..
  2. get a pc tech's ground strap and atacth it to your body somewhere and then to a suitable spot in the car for grouding.. essentially grounding yourself to the car.. should fix the problem
  3. did i miss them this year or something? lol.. wanted a couple too..
  4. personally, i just bought an 01 outback.. its got 47k and already had teh conditioner put in.. no leaks.. besides, i bought the extended warranty too, that'll cover any HG issues i might see up to 5 years or 95k miles.. i'm not all that worried about it..
  5. no acctually it all worked except for teh motor oil in my front diff which chewed the ring and pinion up.. made a ton of noise
  6. traded the 93 turbo legacy in on a 01 outback limited 5-speed and 45k on it.. since aamco scewed my trans up in the 93.. ahh well. got a nice ride nwo
  7. my owners manual specifically states manual mode does nothing in first gear... if in 2nd and in manual mode the car will not downshift to first no matter if your foots on teh floor or not.. to test get rolling about 20 mph till the car shifts into 2nd, push the manual button then stomp the gas.. if it does not downshift then its working, if it does then its not working..
  8. change of plans, not doing any swap.. just going to get rid of the 2wd wagon and the parts wagon both.. tired of workin on it.. after hav ing rebuilt it twice, enoughs enough..
  9. i'm in ruckersville, va.. not sure where fincastle is though.. if you guys are up to it i need an engine taken out of a parts wagon and put into another.. Tell miles he can have the old engine if he does the motor swap for me.. both cars are here and i have air tools if needed basically take one lump out and put in another.. complete.. the one coming out is a reman with about 20k and its spfi... call me at 434-284-2955 , if i don't answer leave me a message, will be at work all afternoon..
  10. well its gotta be 2wd, they said.. already thought about the 4wd, lol.. but we can weld steel in the doors.. if we get the volvo running we're gonna mount an onboard video camera in it to get footage.. of course we're gonna have someone in the stands filming too
  11. well in august we have a demo derby here.. 4cyl class and 8 cyl.. so i think i'm gonna make my parts car rwd (dual range 5-speed spfi) put an LSD in the rear, mount a cone filter stright off the top of the throttle body out the hood, relocate the radiator to the spare tire compartment, battery to the pass side floor board, and fuel cell in the back seat and run her in the derby.. we also have a 78' Volvo wagon with a 4cyl in it.. wieghs in at 4800lbs and is solid metal, lol.. we just gotta get the damned bosch mechanical fuel injection to work and we're gonna run it too.. i think the volvo is gonna crush about anything in the ring..
  12. well when i plug in the green conectors up by the wiper motor its supposed to turn off the timing advance i thoguht.. well it doesn't do a damned thing in my car for some reason.. i even swapped the disty with a good one from a parts car and no difference.. no breaks in teh wireing, nothing.. any ideas? cause unless i get this to work i can't really set the timing.. its an 88 spfi wagon too btw..
  13. to get the same oem gasket aftermarket, you have to get the ea82 turbo gaskets.. the ea82T gaskets will fit any ea81 or ea82.. they are not those cheap paper ones.. they're just like oem...
  14. not sure of the differences between the turbo and non turbo tranny's... otherwise the 2wd trans is fine.. got about 150k on it.. clean fluid etc.. i shortened the shifter rod about 2 inches too.. when i get it all out and swapped over, you can have it if ya want it just gotta come get it.. front and rear axles are bad as well.. not sure about the ball joints.. most stuff under this car is just worn the heck out.. change of plans too, its going to be one of those slow projects, so its not going anywhere anytime soon.. i can also store the trans for awhile after i get done if needed..
  15. picked up a 88 5-speed dual range 4wd wagon yesterday for $150.. guy said it hadn't run in a long time and they thought the motor was locked up.. best part was when i stuck a battery in it and it fired right up, ran like a top, then i drove it home, haha.. anyways.. i'll be using almost teh entire drivetrain in my 2wd DL wagon.. engine, trans, crossmember, rear diff, etc, its all going in my DL.. (rings are shot) the rest of the car is going to either get stripped for parts if anyone needs anything, or it'll just get crushed.. its tan on brown, power windows, locks, etc.. if anyone needs anything let me know.. I need to have a list by monday cause this will all get done on tuesday..
  16. i got a reman carb from national carb.. works great, cost about $260 unhook your coil wire, and use the starter to crank it up on the dolly.. i know this is rough on a starter but if your not going more than a few feet, it'll be fine.. i've had to crank mine 100 yards+ before.. same starter is still workin fine.. when replacing the carb, you can either drain the coolant, or make sure the radiator cap is sealed.. the cap holds teh suction and doesn't allow the intake to bleed antifreeze, hehe..
  17. i got one in the shed.. bolts to where the tow hooks mount then in the cargo compartment in the rear.. believe its a class 2.. pulled an 88 ea82 wagon home 75 miles on a dolly, with an 86' wagon.. ran 70 down the interstate no problems..
  18. anyone know what size the speakers are in the dash and doors of a brat? am thinkin the dash speakers are 4x6 and the doors are 5" but not sure...
  19. sat at aamco for 2 weeks while they rounded up everything to fix the tranny.. new valve body, torque converter, shift solinoid, planetary gears, forward clutch plate, rear clutch plate, clutches, bands, on down the list.. everything was replaced... shes home with about 75 miles on it so far, is like brand new.. couldn't have asked for a better job from anyone..
  20. double check the sirtributor as well.. had my ea82 running almost 180 out.. got 34mpg though lol thinkin about turning it back cause its less mpg with it in time correctly.. go figure
  21. 25 spline axles are easy.. y-pipes have been discontinued, could get them last year, but not now.. i imagine i could special order one though.. people aren't hired in my atore unless they know something, and i quiz'm
  22. look up a 78' for parts for your 80' i can find your nippondenso parts, just have to order it is all.. not a problem
  23. since i manage the store here in ruckersville, va.. i thought i might drop some tips when shopping for subaru parts at advance.. 90% of the parts listed for a subaru at advance are wrong.. if you need ea82 non turbo parts have then look at a 90 loyale.. if you need ea82 turbo parts have them look up a 90 loyale rs turbo.. and if you need ea81 parts have them look up an 84 brat.. thats the only way you'll get the right stuff.. if its not used or wrong part in the box.. in my store i have started writing in big letters, defect, core, etc.. with a black marker.. so they can't send out junk from the warehouse.. so if you get one don't blame my store, hahaha.. ohh and the listings are mostly accurate for the legacys, outbacks, etc.. they're justwrong for the old gen stuff..
  24. well, even though i'm manager here at this advance.. i still don't buy my axles or clutches from work anymore.. i've gotten several that were used, cores, bad, etc.. and i friggin manage one of thier stores! i got a bad one for the brat too, and i ordered the brand new GCK axles.. not the remans.. go figure.. lol.. clutch i bought lasted about 5 blocks and the pressure plate went out.. so i ordered another, it was used in teh box. i said screw it and went to napa.. just a tip..have them look up a 90 loyale rs turbo for your ea82 turbo wagon.. the parts are more accurate..
  25. sounds like the one i fought in my brat.. mine started out as being a pita like yours.. then it broke off in the block.. then the radiator and a chisel came into play to get the chunks out.. after that the new pump was $100+ and she's back on the road.. be very careful unless you want an even bigger headache..
