**all you experts** Transmission gearing differences? (1989/1986/1983)
Hey everybody, Right after I lifted my brat (and put 29" tires on it) I was confronted with some "gearing issues" I hear LOTS about everyone doing 5-speed swaps out of the ea82 series cars, but is this just going to get me a 5th gear? (I DONT need 5th.... with 29s Im only running 2k rpms at 55mph!) I have ALSO heard something about the early ea81 D/R trannies having a lower 1st gear? (THIS would be nice....as I wheel it a lot) Long and short of it ...... -My brat is an '86. -I have a 1983 D/R trans -I have a 1989 ea82 D/R trans What are the benefits/ gear differences? Thanks much!

Rusty Rotors
backwoodsboy replied to lhrocker's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXRIGHT I have always found that rotors last best when used frequently. Actually, whole cars in general last best when used frequently

Rusty Rotors
backwoodsboy replied to lhrocker's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhen I stored my BAJA last winter, I took the rotors off (front and rear) too keep them from rotting. I let it sit for a month before they were removed. They were oiled, bagged, and stored at my house for the winter. Come spring, I open the bags.... and the rust that had started last fall had now brought them to the point of no return "rusted de-lamination!" *UGH*

1980 Gl w/EA71
+1 on the perf. coil being a bad idea....(at least the silver ones) Virtually no improvement over stock, and much less reliable. Would LOVE to see pics when you get 'er all done too!

85 Brat Restoration Project
Impact tools arent necessary, but can be helpful sometimes. I would say for exhaust replacement, a good pentrant such as PB Blaster will be your biggest help. As long as there arent quarter sized holes in your main subframe, I would say go for the restoration! ....and post pics:grin:

OK EJ22 folks...Non-interference '93 and 95 legacys- different timing belts?!
So the kits are interchangeable?

OK EJ22 folks...Non-interference '93 and 95 legacys- different timing belts?!
I just checked.....the timing BELT #s are the same the IDLER #s are different! I thought an EJ22 was an EJ22!?

OK EJ22 folks...Non-interference '93 and 95 legacys- different timing belts?!
Hey all, I recently did the timing belt on my '93 legacy with the kit from Gates. Now I go to order the Gates kit again for my girlfriend's '95 legacy (also non-interference) .....and they are showing a different *and more expensive* kit for a 95 vs. a 93. Are they assuming all 95 2.2s are interference, thus the different kit? Her '95 is a 5MT ....so I KNOW its not interference. Shouldnt I be fine with the '93 kit? Thanks!

Good or bad - Nippon or Hitach distys
Yeah, Ill second (or third) for crappy silver accel coils. I have one that came with my brat, and I never noticed ANY power difference from the stock coil.
