Well, guess I have a new driver
75subie replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i think starions are junk. i beat a turbo starion from stop light to stop light several times with my 01 accent(5sp twin cam). it wasn`t easy, but i did it, and he wasn`t happy:grin: plus they didn`t seem to hold up well. there is one down the road from my house for $1000, and its actually pretty clean. -
heres a list of what i can think of (depends on how much pulling you want to do and if the stuff is close to free) i`m interested in the console for sure, and maybe a power window swap. pass side seat if its decent hood, fenders, doors if rust free or near it shifter nob if its the wooden style door panels headlight bezels/grill setup with lenses and headlights front bumper if chrome and not bent wheels if they are wagon wheels steering wheel (i think paul likes the early style steering wheels) ignition switch carb if it looks like its ever been rebuilt alt and starter mirrors body moldings/emblems i doubt you feel like pulling a motor, but ea81s are pretty saleable around here, now that they started using them in aircrafts. also, i think wagonsonly might be looking for a 5sp swap.

stolen hatchie in shelton
75subie replied to dixracing's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yea, i hope he is able to snag it. might be better to bring the fuzz, but if not, be ready to jump in and go or have a tire iron handy;) -
if you are grabbing parts to resell, i`d be interested in that console, and maybe the window motors/regulators. what color interior? how are the seats/dash? hood and fenders? does it have wagon wheels?

as much as i`d like to have the wing, i better save my $$ for necessities right now. Wagonsonly just bought my 360 pickup, before that i was flat broke:-\ that new brat ($2200) came up unexpectedly, and i didn`t realize that was all i had. good thing i still have the 4wd hatch, 97 metro, and 92 loyale to sell:D . anyway, if Andrew can`t hook you up, i can get at least a pair of tail lights to send down with him. possibly a bumper as well, but it'd be off a loyale, and all black. -

you should contact wagonsonly before he drives down to VA, i think he can hook you up with most the parts you need. -
Wow 15 grand:-\ i think i`d rather just go and buy a brand new base impreza sedan for an extra $1500, and that would probly still hange with that ea81:D just getting back on topic:D

I know a guy with a free 1979 wagon
75subie replied to michael appel's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
i know who that is. spoke to him several times, but i have never been able to come through with shipping. i know he has an extra engine and 5sp tranny. the car is fwd and does not currently run. last time we spoke, it had been sitting under his parents porch for years, and the body was solid, but in primer/mismatched colors. didn`t really sound that bad for free. i think he said he brought it to his high school shop class in the late 80s and never finished it. -
Building the ultimate ea81 on a budget
75subie replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
with a cam grind, spfi, spfi pistons, hi flo exhaust, and msd, (plus accel plugs, ss coil, accel plug wires, good tune up) i think the 100-110hp mark would be in sight, but with just the spfi, it would probly be about 80hp. plus i'd like to play the "let me see if i can get this thing to run" game with the spfi swap alone:-p -

do you guys think i`d be better off trying the spfi alone before spending too much money? i`m thinking thats the way to go, and then after i`m done with welding lessons,go ahead and try an ej22 swap. -
Building the ultimate ea81 on a budget
75subie replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i`d like to get my hands on some dual carb heads. i hear they have bigger valves and intake holes. -
need some suggestions. i`ve never actually "built" a motor, so i`m hoping to do this as a learning expierience for less than $5-600 i already have this ea81 with 88k on it out of an 88 hatch (i believe that would make it hydro lifters) anyway, i`d like to do something fun with this motor for my 85 brat. also hoping to get an msd ignition setup, decent exhaust, and a 5 sp d/r. anyway, i've already decided to go with spfi off of a newer ea82 thanks to Generaldisorder's manual. but what else would you guys suggest? are hydro or solid lifters better? would spfi pistons up my compression? would it be worthwhile? how about a better cam grind? if i sent mine to delta cams, what cam grind would be the way to go for this type of build? should the valves or valve springs be upgraded? are oil pumps with better displacement available? what else would you guys suggest? this is on a budget, so i`m hoping minimal machining and porting is needed. thanks Jon

Subaru SANBAR hot dog stand!?!?!?!
75subie replied to Frank B's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
mine was set up like that, but the dope who had it before me threw out all the hotdog goodies. -
thanks for taking the time to do this GD, its very handy. i`m considering doing this swap to my 85 brat. if you do ever start to make those spfi harnesses, and they are reasonable, i`d probly buy one from you. one quick question tho, the car i`m looking at is a 92 loyale 2wd auto, would i be better off getting the ecu out of a 4wd 5sp ea82? which years would be the easiest? i did read that section in your manual, but i just want to be sure. thanks! Wagonsonly and WagonsonlySR
75subie replied to ShawnW's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
sounds like it was a fun trip for you Andrew! we need some coupe pix:brow: oh, and if you do stop by Connie's in the next few days, just let me know and i`ll be here. the stuff is in the garage, but now very accessable. the exhaust system (y-pipe back) will probly have to be taken apart for it to fit in a coupe or XT though. going to pick up my new brat in philadelphia today, so if you come, you can check that out along with the hatch, 360 truck, and the loyale. here is a link to the new brat: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110039203838&ru=http://motors.search.ebay.com:80/110039203838_W0QQfromZR40QQfviZ1
