  1. awesome, thanks:headbang:
  2. i`m not a pink man myself, but that would probly look pretty sharp with the stripes and some mag wheels. maybe black out all the chrome. gold with satin black stripes is also sharp.
  3. welcome to the Club. if you are looking for an offroad truck. go with the 1982-1987 gen 2 style brats. they are much much easier to mod, get parts for, and are more durable. they also have the d/r tranny with better gearing than the earlier models. they are also alot easier to swap a ej22 into. 82-87 brats are generally identical. the only things that are noticably different are the grills, and interiors. things to look out for? basically like you said RUST!! and previous wreck damage. clutch, axles, maybe interior condition. tailgates and doors are a pain to find. everything else is a breeze to fix, most parts can be bought from your local auto parts store, or junk yard. the engine and tranny are easy (usually cheap) to replace. axles are notorious to go bad. oil leaks and engine ticking is normal. lowering, well, that'd be up to you. kits are available for lifting, but i`ve never seen lowering kits besides the old coil locks:grin: you can also cut a few coils off your old springs and crank down the rear torsion bar. if you buy a brat, would you mind taking pics of the other 5 and letting us know where they are so they can all be saved? take care, Jon
  4. i always thought that when they loose a leg, another one grows back:confused: i am sorry for the purists but if i ever see one of them on my car, it will be dead:lol:
  5. i guess everything is ok until your working under the car and that sucker climbs on you
  6. man spray that thing up with carb cleaner or something and kill it!!! i guess he already lost a leg somewhere i hate spiders:-\ especially big ones, and ones that hiss:confused:
  7. you could always find some close matching vinyl fabric and just patch the top of the seats(where its torn). if you take the covers off, you can do that by hand. it might be your easiest/cheapest option, but i am no perfectionist;)
  8. c-clamps will work nice if you have a honda, but not on an 82 subaru caliper lol:grin: those calipers are pretty strong, you should be alright as long as you didn`t crank down the c-clamp too hard.
  9. here they are: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=58537 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=49975
  10. yes, the pistons would need to be rotated back in. that tool looks like it should work. rear disk brakes can indeed be added to your hatch. any post 85 turbo ea82 has rear disks. you will need the disks, calipers, hubs, maybe the lines, ect, ect. it is a pretty easy mod, i think there is a write up floating around somewhere.
  11. welcome Gary i too am car crazy. i`ve owned probly over 100 cars since i was 10. various makes and models. many volkswagons, hondas, chevy's, ect, ect. i had a fiat 1100 and a fiat 600 as well. subarus are my favorite. the noise you are hearing is a valve tap, totally normal for subarus, don`t worry about it. also oil leaks are nothing to worry about with soobs:headbang:
  12. Connie, are you sure it wasn`t something a little more major? did you have any brakes at all? any brake fluid left in the resivior? i`m thinking your calipers may be shot, or possibly a hole in a brake line. hopefully the job goes easy for you! take care, Jon
  13. ALL ea81 4wd body style axles, front and rear are the same. only 2wd axles are different. Brat axles will work in your car.
  14. there are not even close!! the only door panels that will fit your hatch are: 82-87 Brats 80-88 hatches 80-84 coupes. all other models are too short. i saw your pics in the other thread. i think you could do well at harry's u-pull it in PA. i see your drivers door and hatch door are dented. i know harry's has both those items including the glass. he also will have the rear seat and door panels. i saw all these items in good shape last time i was there.
  15. i tried getting the muscle look out of mine when i had it. made a roof spoiler by sawzalling off the front of an old high-topper. heres my old 80 dl
  16. i have this FE motor sitting here with even higher compression and a better cam grind than a standard ea71. i was gonna drop it into my last brat, but i sold it to Paul when i sold my brat. its just awaiting him to pick it up. one of those along with a weber would make a brat into a rocket.
  17. i don`t know about "massive amounts" but my old brat could roast the tires also in 1st, but i could never get it to churp 2nd. by the time you get to 4th gear, the torquey feeling is about gone:-p
  18. i`m sure she'll be happy!! i love classic insurance, my 70 beetle was $40 a year:banana:
  19. yea, Junkyardgabe is also a good one. last time i was up there he had 3 brats, 3 hatchbacks, and one hatchback was still restorable. 1 of the brats was pretty well rusted, but untouched.
  20. your only real good place for parts here on the north east is Harry's u pull it in Hazelton PA. they will have your back window, and some of the other things you need. there was 5 hatchbacks there last week. -Jon
  21. hi John, this is the guy you were talking to over at NASIOC (ruppenduro). there are a few of us around the area. we have tried to pull together a few meets, but alot of times our schedules get in the way, and only one or 2 of us show up:-p here are a few board names of people in the north east that have ea81 subes like yours.... 22. well, don`t forget there was rain on the ground. people sometimes don`t respect the rain, and it can come back to bite you in the arse.
  23. ahh, i was, but Matt could use it more than i could. just happy its going to the North east and to someone who's gonna treat it well.
  24. Matt's (jeep5.9) the proud new owner of this one: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/car/196483948.html
