  1. i have found many shippers who would actually bring a car from CA to my door for $450, it just takes time to look and not pick the first one you see. i usually go with no insurance, because its not a new car.these are with the big companies who put like 12 cars on a trailer which allows them to do it cheap. if you want, i can help locate a cheap shipper, when i was looking at a non running 76 in WA they quoted me $700, but a running car will run you about 200 less.
  2. shipping will run you about $500 looks clean, over in the east they all rust out
  3. the colts were pos's but i think the same idea with a subaru would be cool.
  4. i always thought that it tears up your diff and tranny if you run 4wd on dry pavement. the wheels are conflicting eachother.
  5. have you ever owned other vw`s? i loved the old air cooled beetles, had probly 8 of those. one had floors so bad i put wood across the floor and had to sit on a milk crate to get it home:lol: the last one i had was a beautiful 70 standard beetle, what a beauty, everything was restored, but after the rebuild, they couldn`t get it running, so i picked it up for $900, sold it the next week for $3500 to the first person who looked at it. always wanted to make a baja bug. they had one on monster garage with a turbo pulling sideways on a 1/4 mile:grin:
  6. Merry Christmas you guys, hope you all get what you wanted, i`ll be looking outside for a tailgatewagon of ff1 with a bow on it:lol:
  7. you remember the old Dodge colts with d/r fwd? i was just thinking, would it be possible to put a d/r tranny in a fwd sube leave the rear diff out, and just run it in hi-lo 2wd? that would really be pretty sweet, like for a fast take off, or if you are towing a trailer, and for those long, steep, drawn out hills where you have to shift down into 3rd. or even if you had a 4wd and just drop the drive shaft going to the rear, just when you might need the extra power for dry pavement or a hilly road trip. i have never ran the brat past 3rd in low range, so i am not sure what the final gearing is, but it seems to be alot jumpier in low range for low speed torque
  8. sounds like a plan;) wish i had the funds to do it though:banghead: maybe in the future:brow:
  9. i`ll admit, i have had several rabbits, pickups, and one 76 scirocco, they did have more jump, but the only ones i had better milage on were the diesels. handleing was comparable. until i owned a soob, i thought a rabbit with snow tires was unstoppable:lol:
  10. i wish i could take you up on that, i`ll come down with the 78, we`ll work on finishing your RX, then you help me lower the brat, put on an electronic disty and a hi-flo exhaust, and we`ll call it even:D instead of offroading though, i hope there is a 1/4 mile track around to blow the doors off the RX with the dually carbs going on the 78 soon:lol:
  11. i heard somewhere that someone found a rally sport gen 1 brat with a 5 speed, dual carbs, and a 120mph speedo. did they actually make these???
  12. i like the way cars look with positive camber but it eats tires:-\ can`t wait to see pics of the lift:banana: if it looks good, i want to order one too!
  13. what # is stamped on your motor?is it ea81 or ea82? xt6 would have an er27 6 cylinder, but you could get a regular xt with an ea82. ea81`s came in 80-84 wagons and coupes and 81-87 brats and hatches.85-94 wagons have ea82 ea82's have timing belts while ea81's have timing gears.
  14. tell ya what, if anyone ever finds one in a crate, i would be willing to trade all my cars for it. its a long shot, but ya never know:lol:
  15. ea81 for a brat, they didn`t make ea82 brats c'mon man, you knew that:lol:
  16. i wonder what ever happened to him?i always thought he did a good honest business 2 years ago:-\
  17. can`t wait to see pics, and hear how you like it:banana: i too want to buy one, but haven`t heard from any ea81 owners with an AA setup.
