Keeping the rust away
75subie replied to pkennedybluewrx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
clean out behind the front fenders, por 15 the underbody, then spray it down with oil, keep it clean and salt free on the body. clean behind the mud flaps. all depends on how much work you want to do to keep it nice. -
Wanted: gen 1 brat under $1000
75subie replied to 75subie's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
i wish the guy would have replied, i don`t think he liked the idea about shipping it:-\ i guess with all the scammers around, can`t blaim him. -
hi guys, i know this should be under the wanted section, but i figure someone with a gen 1 brat is more likely to see it here. i am looking for a gen 1 brat, for a special project. the mainly important thing is the body. a little surface rust here and there is ok. it doesn`t have to run, but that would be nice:D i am in NY, but will travel or pay shipping for the right brat.i have $1000 to spend, and a good home for another brat.if you have one for sale, please post here, or email me at ruppenduro@yahoo.com

That thing is beautiful, my dream subaru:slobber: i have never seen one so nice. i think it looks great the way it is, but alloy wheels might help make it look a little more delux.

nope, a touring wagon has a raised roof, kind of like a hi-top conversion van. touring wagons usually are pretty deluxe.

the guy who had it for sale put it on ebay, and a member in Maine on here bought it, and is onverting it to electric power, not really sure why, but i was looking into buying his old gas motor -

i have to say, i loved all the vw rabbits i ever owned. the gas models were very zippy and the diesels had decent power, all of them handled great in the snow and on dry pavement, really just great all around cars. i think people use them for racing.around here the strut towers always rust out. -
thanks suckerking, yes, i`m talking about a gen 2 1980 hatch 4wd with a 1600.the tranny on the 81 i`m looking at is a manual. so the tranny tunnel will be too small for a d/r?thanks for the advice, Jon
-
how hard would it be to convert a FWD hatch to 4wd? i am looking at an 81 ea81 fwd, and have a rusty ea71 4wd. would a ea71 s/r 4wd tranny bolt up to the ea81? i`ve never done the swap.i think the bell housings looked different.also, is the body different on fwds?or will my rear diff and susp bolt onto the fwd?any help is appreciated. i really like the FWD because its rust free and looks nice:D but i really need a 4wd:(
