Can't pass emissions
danbennett2u replied to ThosL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXoh ok so its not actually failing on any of the emissions values, its because of the CEL light being on then right?

Ej22 N/a to ej22T, OR supercharged?!?!
danbennett2u replied to shortysayhi's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGeneral conesnsus is the EJ22 NA does not take boost too well. EJ22T that came in the turbo cars is significantly different in design and doesnt give you THAT much power.

1996 Subaru Legacy LEMON
Lots of subject matter on this. basically it means your AWD system is locking up at all times and not just "as needed"

1996 Subaru Legacy LEMON
pretty much any fuse will do. Put one in (its by the windshield on the passenger side under the hood, and turn tight circles, if it goes away your AWD system is binding. If it is AWD binding, drain and fill the tranny fluid at least 3 times to get all old fluid out. If that doesnt help there are many articles on here about repairing duty C solenoid.

Other car make problems...
danbennett2u replied to unibrook's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGD I agree... Subarus are the easiest car I have ever worked on. I am not a mechanic by any means but compared to my GM's Fords, chryslers, nissans, toyotas, mazdas etc I have to give Subaru the nod. Of course the AWESOME support this boards members provide might be a BIG part of that.

engine shampoo
danbennett2u replied to Downbound's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAlthough if you "steam clean" the engine isnt that something different? Does this really exist or is this a marketing term

P0302 code / Downshift issues.
danbennett2u replied to mcbrat's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCEL flickering on a sudden acceleration makes me think it is not transmission related....

Doing HG at 82K.. what else while inside
I would say at 82k miles, the timing belt, pulleys, water pump, spark plugs/wires maybe a valve adjustment? I cant imagine there would be that much more needed at that low a mileage.

Doing HG at 82K.. what else while inside
This doesnt help you at all but.... Holy crap already needs HGs at 82k miles, what is this a Neon? I have to say I love my early/mid 90's EJ22s.

engine shampoo
danbennett2u replied to Downbound's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe amount of time you leave it on isnt going to eat through anything. maybe if you have polished parts underhood but I haven't ever noticed any damage.

Other car make problems...
danbennett2u replied to unibrook's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy Miata was very trouble free, however that is about as simple and basic of a car design as you can get. The biggest problem I had was a stuck rear window zipper lol.

engine shampoo
danbennett2u replied to Downbound's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI spray mine with simple green, let it sit a bit, and hose it off. Make sure it doesnt get into spark plug holes and cover the coils. Dont use super high pressure. It works pretty well for me but I would do it on a sunny day so you can leave the hood up and let it dry off completely. Of course, I do this on 20 year old subies not 02 models.

seafoam in crankcase
danbennett2u replied to littlefish's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXno, im pretty sure as others mentioned, 97 is adjustable. I think they are indeed roller but they do require valve adjustments. At least on the EJ25 they do, pretty sure the ej22 does too.

Wheel bearing noise?
Ok well this weekend will be getting it up on stands to replace the god awfully warped rotors. hopefully I can figure out which one is making the noise then.
-
Wheel bearing noise?
no just bought the car yesterday, the repairs so far have consisted of filling up the power steering fluid, and changing some light bulbs. If its possible for that noise to be consistent regardless of lateral forces then I am less worried, was just hoping it wasnt a diff going out of something.
-
Wheel bearing noise?
I know the wheel bearing sound, and I know it usually changes pitch and volume when you go around corners. Is it possible for this noise to occur at a steady rate with no changes going around corners and such? Got speed dependent noise in the front of my new OBS and hoping it is a bearing since I know how to fix that.

Buying a new OBS (hopefully)
Replacing the bearing requires pressing a new one in. I dont have a press, nor do I know of a shop nearby that can do this for me cheap. The place I get my knuckles seems to be very good at getting me good used ones, never had a problem with a bearing in a knuckle I have replace

Buying a new OBS (hopefully)
Bought it. Already bought the rotors. Runs beautifully and really scoots. Transmission shifts perfect, alignment seems fine. Smells a little of cigarettes but have some stuff that helps with that and I am planning on using a rug doctor on it eventually. LOVE how the imprezas handle. Now I absolutely need to sell my legacy fast... ShawnW where are you!
-
Buying a new OBS (hopefully)
nope just throwing some hubcaps on. Wheels are more than I want to spend

Buying a new OBS (hopefully)
I put $100 down on this to hold it until tomorrow (can only withdraw $1000 from my account per day from an ATM since I have an online bank). Plus need to sell my car for $500 which I have already been offered, just need to make sure I can get it done today or tomorrow... 1995 OBS 2.2 auto AWD. 164k miles matching tires no rust interior decent needs brake rotors turned and eventually a new wheel bearing in the front $1800

Request for carfax or autocheck
Just remember if this gets used excessively they will patch the hole. It works, dont try it unless you actually have a car you want to look up. So this is still working for the rest of us

danbennett2u replied to brycarp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThey are hydraulic, no adjustment necessary

No oil pressure at warm startup
