TD04-13G turbo, flow mapped for the EA82
Danbob99 replied to All_talk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So any one got an extra Tdo4? The Wrx turbo really does work great on the Ea-82 engine, i've ridden in tex's rx, and it feels great. He hits boost close to the original boost minimium, near 3k, but it pulls a whole hell of a lot better than an ea-82 turbo running ten pounds, he's still running stock boost and it feels awesome. It'd blow me outa the water. -
Subaru's are great, they really covered their stuff building these cars, specialy in the newer ones, things are marked, and fit like they sould. Now, i've worked on other cars where that is anything but the case, doin my freinds brakes i find that the bolts are diffrent from one side to the other, a Torx bit on one, and a Hex bit on the other!! Guess thats a ford thing though

woohoo. my new toy came in the mail!
Danbob99 replied to subaru_styles's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, becuase it sounds really, really cool!! lol, actually i really like the sound of the Gfb bov, they don't sound so good though at higher boost pressures, so you are forced to recurculate some of it, more at higher boost. But it sounds freaking awesome -
Insane Fuel cut...suddenly?
Danbob99 replied to Danbob99's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thats a good thought "rallyman" i guess all this did happen in close relation to me having plumbed my "boost light" though i don't have the flapper intake, i think that might still be along the same lines. i did though, try and disconnect that second vacuum selenoid on the right srtut tower. To my suprise...no more boost cut!!! Though heres the kicker...i also boosted at a minimum of about 18psi....i don't know how hi it would go, didn't want to try, got off it as soon as i saw it that high, and heard it begin to detonate... So why would unplugging that selonoid, and bypassing vac lines cause my boost to shoot through the freakin roof like that? And one more...i can't find any Toluene, searched a few stores, but alot were closed already, no luck though. Lots of Mek...can i mix that? -

Insane Fuel cut...suddenly?
Danbob99 replied to Danbob99's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What do you mix it at? how much to a gallon? I'm really interested in experimenting with this, it souds like a really good idea... -
You could mount it right smack on top of your existing plenum, the one that says "4wd turbo" on it....Me and subarutex chopped up my old one to make it fit, and used a stock wrx bov on it. Tight squezze but it works. I've been ok without recurculating my bov. It makes for a lil bit of rough running at idle, but nothing too incredibly serious.

Insane Fuel cut...suddenly?
Danbob99 replied to Danbob99's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Fuel filter is good, just changed it a few weeks ago. Tried the octane booster, cheep crap sold at schmucks, didn't work all that great. The intensity of the cut has lessened, i don't hit it in first gear anymore, lately it's only been second, nearing 4,500 Anyone ever heard of using Toulene (spelling?) as an octane booster? commonly found at home depot or a paint store? -
Treid to run a search on this; to little help, i got loads of just "fuel" related stuff... lately, as of yesterday, just about every time i really stomp on it, i hit some really bad fuel cut. Once, twice, few times, till i get off it, and its pretty violent. I've felt fuel cut in cars before, but this is quite alot rougher than others i've felt. I can feel small amounts of fuel cut at lesser loads, its tough to accelerate lately without hitting it. I think my timming may also be a smidgeon off because under heavy, heavy load i can hear what sounds like a little bit of detonation, but no Cel from the knock sensor? It sounds kinda like sand dropping through the downpipe. Do i need to adjust my timing? fuel pressure? i'm running 10psi on my turbo, intercooled. Help! Thanks, Dan

I'm just starting my senior year at mountlake terrace high school, and this year we are reqired to do a major culminating project throughout the first trimester of the year, and present it near the end of the year. I originaly want to do the project on my car, few upgrades, lots of time. The teachers here weren't liking that idea, telling me they figured it would end up being like "pimp my ride" So they threw that one out. For my project i'm thinking of makeing an Ea-82 Performance Manual. For my Ea-82 Performance manul, i'm going to have several chapters, each on a diffrent area, suspension, engine, interior, exterior etc.. with the custom parts many people here and all over the place make and add to their stock cars. I'm going to have things in there like Cold air intakes Cutting the btm off the air box Intercoolers mbc Disc brake conv 5-lug swap Lift kits Cams (sources and choices) Downpipe mods Some carb mods( im not well versed in this area) Rx body kits Megasquirt??? and other things I need help knocking off the unecesary mods, and putting together this manual with...say...15-20 good mods that no ea-82 should be without. Let me know what you think should be on here. I don't plan to market or sell this, unless there is some extreme interest in it, i don't think i could sell it for more the 5$ if i went that route. Thanks, Dan

several solutions to that one, i assume your talking about the monster crank pulley, being the center cover your speaking of. you can...stick a screw driver through that hole on your tranny housing, into the flex plate, or fly wheel. You can get the special tool that fits the crank pulley, and use 2 breakers on it. You could stick the car in gear, e brake on tight. take your pick...

i don't normaly see head gaskets spew coolant...i see oil, and internal coolant leaking, but i wouldnt jump straight to hg's. Right as in from standing infront of it, or in it? Tech's will usually use perception from inside the car, drivers side is left, passengers is right. So on the left side there are a couple heater hoses that i've blown before. There are a few hoses on the top of the manifold that could leak. All are cheap and easy to fix. Jus pull yur spare tire, get the car warm, and watch were it spews from, replace the hose.

i've heard this one too, one of the things one of my buddies was telling me to carry in my emergency road side kit, incase i put a rock through the radiator or something. i don't know that i would want to run it as a fix for something major that i wanted to last though. Now if its just your intake manifold gaskets that are leaking, i'd just take the few minutes to replace them, or you could try some of the stop leak stuff. i know peper comes at nearly no cost, but its a real cheesy way of doin it. check your sway bar bracketing, those like to come loose some times and make a similar clunk. 12mm bolt, should be pretty tight

The Official WCSS6 Picture thread!
Danbob99 replied to syphon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for that great pic of me there jay... i've got a hundred some odd pics on my computer, but it'd take me a couple days to upload em all on 56k, i was thinking of though putting together a cd of all the collective videos and pictures to mail out as a commemoritve kinda thing.... -
yea, corky helped out with suppliying the parts for the 5-lug conversion; along with that came a set of tie-rod ends that were completley screwed...we managed to make em work though. Thanks Corky! so has any one else done the five lug and had the lower control arms moving around in the braket on the smaller bolt? wadja do to fix it?

we've a newly discovered trick...use a jack, mabey the one thats on the car, if its still there, or one around it, put it say under the tire to keep presure on it, hold the tire still...

sooooo....i've been spending the last few weeks or so working my freaking arse off, that'd be why i havn't been around here much. But, when i havn't been working on cars at work...i've been working on my car. i'm going to refrain from pictures...you'll have to come to wcss 6 to see it in person. new parts.... Impreza hood scoop Wrx intercooler Wrx blow off valve Turbo xs Manual boost control (10psi) Custom air intake and cone filter Xt6 5-lug conversion Wrx wheels Removed muffler White interior door panels White headliner Few more small things here and there... But now the car is real quick as compared to what it was, curious about my hp, and times now though. Most of this new stuff on my car is done with the help of SubaurTex...Thanx tex... See you all at wcss6.... ~Dan

well, on my ea-82t, the bolts were seaized (rusted) solid into the intake part itself (after the intake was removed the bolts unscrewed from the heads with a pair of vice grips) but to get the bolt off, i used a few huge crow bars, a couple burly buddies at the shop, and alot of patients. Use lots of penetrating oil on the top of the broken bolts, Pb blaster is my personal favorite. use, if at your access an impact hammer (? right name for it) on the top of the bolt while prying, if not that then a punch and hammer on the top while prying. lots of wrigling and jostling...it'll come off. worst comes to worse you could drill them out, i assume on your car it is the same as mine, that there are no threads in the intake part, only in the head. You just gotta be careful not to get into the walls on the holes.

okay, well, it is an auto, sorry i didn't specify that to start, would have been a good one to include:rolleyes: and the part numbers are the factory part numbers, as we went to our local dealrship (carter) to price check costs on a new tranny, and those are the part numbers they use there, call them inventory numbers? they aren't the numbers that are printed on the tranny. i'll check out the tranny in the morning and see what the numbers on it are, then what they are in the car that isn't working. Is there any way to tell from the outside of the tranny what the gear ratio is going to be? If Legacy777 is correct, the one on the floor is a 3.9, the one in the car would be a 4.111, but just for piece of mind, is there any way to check?

So...down at smart service we have a car, a legacy- production date 09/91 with a bad transmision. we have a transmision from a car, car is a 92 part numbers 91- 3100ab360r1 92- 3100ab960r1 essentialy the same part numbers, extept for the 3/9 diff does this mean the trannys are diffrent? what diffrences would there be? what can we do to eliminate those diffrences? Any input or help would be awesome, this is a huge money saving opurtunity. If we can get this to work it would be a life saver!! Thanks, Dan

so heres the deal, this all on my 89 gl turbo, 4speed(4Eat) car runs like it should in normal Awd mode, mostly, feels abnormaly squirly, back ends coming out on me lately. i hit my fwd switch and pull it into 1st hold, runs through first, flip out of first and it stays in first, even though i'm in second. Flip into third and i lose all drive capabillity, as in i free rev, no power, no drive, rather odd. so its either that i have no contact in 2nd from the tranny in fwd only, or that i have contact, but the 2nd gear clutches havn't engaged...well, this makes sense in my head, probably not here though:rolleyes: so why is it that i have no 2nd or third gear when i'm in front wheel drive? the squirliness i would think to be from the duty selnoid running at 100% and giving me the 4wd charachteristincs, 50 50, instead of running in Awd like i'm used to which is what? 90-10 till i slip up front? well, any input or opinions would be great Thanks, Dan

Mine? only about 2 miles! Just another testimant to how valuable second checking your work is... This weekend i blew that lil hose that comes from the thrmo housing cover to the underside of the intake manifold on an ea-82t... replaced it, yet the lil clamp on the hose under the manifold is a pain to get on, so i guess i didn't get it all the way on, and the hose blew straight off.... Took about 3 minutes for the temp gauge to start raising...so i got to spend a lil while in the subway parking lot by my house spilling coolant everywhere and trying to reatatch that hose! aahhhh...sorry bout that lil rant...but i feel better now Dan

"ram air" intake and exhaust pics
Danbob99 replied to soobiescoobie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
man...sorry to doubt you...but thats a whole hell of alot of work to route your exuast out your hood considering original exaust ports are on the bottom of your heads, i don't even know where you'd find room to get that up top. still looks pretty cool though.
