8 yr old daughter building EA-82
thats very impresive, i didn't know jack about cars intill i turned sixtenn and got my first piece of crap to dive head first into and do headgaskets as my fist experience with cars. At 8 yrs old i didn't know the diffrence between a v8 and a 4 cylinder.

I lost my Fist gear hold ability to some nice snow donuts
I was out spinning donuts in the snow, having fun with my four wheel drive, i had the car in first hold (this is a 4eat electronically shifted auto tranny on an 89 gl) and at about 5k rpm it shifted into second. It won't shift back into first, it does every once in a while, but shifts out at normal shift rpm. It's no big deal, car still goes into first in normal drive and all, but it would be kinda nice to have that back. Did i trip a saftey feature on the car that keeps idiots like me form hi-revving the car or what? is it resetable? Thanks alot Dan

Slamming a hatch... opinions? maybe ea82T as well
i'm in the same position, i've got my wagon, and in no way, ever intend to do any off roading in it, and i wouldn't mind having it dropped about 2" just for the better cornering, and i think it would look a lot better with a lower ground clearence, now it just seems like it's sitting way to high for the car it is. i also want to lift the car at the same time, to go over curbs, and drive around in grass, and parks, and have fun without tearing off my new fog lights! its a compromise either way...

I got an offer for all of yous lookin for a new engine...
in our shop at smart service subaru, we came across a customer that wanted a HG job done on their forester. in doing the hg's we found that there was a small amount of blow by on the number two cyliner. In removing the cylinder we found that it was one thousandths of an inch out of spec, whic is a very small margine. well, with our liability issues, we opted to replace the engine, instead of replacing the piston rings as we had wanted, and we have now, a reasonably good engine on our shoop floor. Today we got word back from the customer that they no longer wanted to keep the engine. So on its way to the scrap pile, i grabbed hold of it. so i am now in possesion of the engine. The engine: EJ-25 Pase 2 2.5 Out of spec on 3 of 4 cylinders by exactly .001" blowby on piston 2 It's just the short block, no head or anything else. pistons included If you are in the seattle area, contact me, and we will work out a deal, if you are a ways away, its up to you to get it from me. Take this thing off my hands! Dan

Gurgling Heater Core?
uhhh...a persistant gurgling, after draining all the air from the system, from what i know, means blown head gaskets. The head gasskets leak, allowing exuast to back flow into the cooling system. It then allows air into the heater core, it is the highest and least pressurized part of the cooling system. This has been the case on both of my cars that i had with blown head gaskets, heater core gurgled, i changed the head gaskets, it stopped. this is just me, it could still be just air in the system, head gaskets is the worst case scenario.

Gas? Fuel? What is it? *EA82T Performance Thread*
wow, thats a heck of a post. I also second your opinion that the octane of fuel really does make a diffrence in the performance of the car, i've heard the stories, read the statistics and now why it shold theoreticaly work, and in my car, it does seem to also. I've never run any super high octane fuel, only what i can get from the pump, but i may have to try it soon. I have read several articles that dispute this, and say that the octane does not make a diffrence, that you should run what the manufacturrer suggests so that it matches your ignition timeing and prevents detonation. I had a really good one that would have had me convince, if it werent for my past experiences wth bad gas(in my car. ) I will try to find them, and post them. Dan

Alternator bad?? I'm an idiot...
well, my soob does the same deal, i think, but it just means that your alternator isn't putting out as much when it's not at rpm. It's nothing out of the ordinairy, unless its endangering the running of your car. if your volts shoot throught the rough, your "brake lamp", "check engine" :charge battery: lights all come on at once, your alternator is not putting out (they will come on on start up regardless) but if your car idels, starts, and runs fine. it's perfectly normal.

One hot cat
i've seen that happen with turbo engines, they will make the down pipes glow bright orange under a load, but not just ideling. Mabey (just guessing) your cats are clogged, or something along the line is clogged, restricting air flow, and causing friction and over heating your cats. Pull it and see if you can see day light through it. It shouldn't be too hard to do. Dan

Clutch question and an odd sound I heard
well, i was asking about the amp cuz if you wire your ground to close to the ground of your alternator, you get somenasty feed back, reminicent to that of a turbo, i guess you would say.

Clutch question and an odd sound I heard
on the sound, you don't happen to have an aftermarket stereo and apmlifier installed do you?

No power, Missfiring and stalls under heavy load or when flooring it. **FIXED**
hey, good news, i'm glad yo hear that you got it running. Hope my problem wasn't as simple as that, ending the life of my car... But anywayz, Good for you, i wish you no further problems and a great car! enjoy it while you can!

No power, Missfiring and stalls under heavy load or when flooring it. **FIXED**
i had that EXACT same problem on an old 86 hyundai excel that i used to drive. That ended the life of the car, but, after talking to many diffrent people, and after the many, many hours i spent under the hood trying to figure it out, it was decided between a bunch of us that the float in the carburator had gotten stuck in my car. i'm not sure of the similarities between the two cars, but looking at the symptoms and the decided solution, it seemed very logical. I'm not sure how you would go about fixing that, i had gotten rid of the car before i could figure it. In any case, good luck. (this is only from personal experience, i do not know of the validity of this, sorry) Dan

windows tinted!!
Dude, thats awesome, i didn't have a chance to check out the pics, or i'm too lazy too, wither way. But i'll have to stop by sometime to check it out. Did you ever finish painting your interior? hows about rehupulstoring (<--Spelling?) the back seats? let me know if you need any help with any of that, i'm bored and willing... (oh, and nice brat, i didn't know you had one, saw it when i drove by the other day) Dan

What is the absolute oldest, first subaru out there? any one know?
What is the very first subaru? Where is it? What engine does it have? Does it run? How much is it worth? i've seen some old subarus, but none earlier that...83, i think. i'm not sure....but very curious. Dan

Insanely high voltage readings...
On my 1989 ea-82T gl i've recently developed the problem that the voltage in my car jumps up very high (18-19 volts) when reving up the car cold. It did not use to do this. This isn't so much of a problem cuz i;m not blowing fuses or anything, but every time my voltage hits about 15 volts my stereo amplifier shuts off:mad: As far as i know, this means my voltage regulator has gone south, thats the case on older cars any ways. Now i beleive they are part of the alternator. Is there any way to change it without replacing my alternator? or is there another source to my problem besides this?

intercooler and blow-off valve/ bypass valve setups
you should try and get ahold of SubaruTex. He has an Rx that he has done the intercooler, mbc, and others to it. As far as i know he used a wrx intercooler, workers good from what i've seen.

Hard to go over 55
if your exaust were clogged enough to keep you from hitting 55 you would be able to stand on the floor ideling and not go past, say, five or six thousand rpms, this is only from my own experiences though, so its open to dispute. But i would be more inclined to say that you have a problem holding compresion with the symptoms. Compression would be lost because of blown piston rings, valve seals, bent valves, something along those lines. Test your compresion, see what it says.

site down (NEW PICS ARE UP)
well, i work in smart sevice subaru, but i'll have to ask the guys if it's okay to take pictures of the cars that they have in (i don't see why it wouldn't be) but i see most of that stuff every day, on many diffrent cars. So i'll see what i can do for you...
