  1. at first reading about mirror breaking i was like oh yea, be careful. after reading the story I can see it sure be a fun time. I am getting ready for a trip to babysit for granddaughter. her father is going to california for a week. he's in marines and sole caretaker. that said I think I can make this one. it's not to far away and as long as I get off on time I could be there by noon. I now have 2 92 SS's both sticks. they are a blast to drive. well one is running the other is waiting till I get the title. then will fix and enjoy that one on the track. would like to install 4.44's and go after some faster cars. they do not believe what is happening as I go by. the chances are good that I can come. would be driving one of the SS's. will ask a friend to come also. will get back here before then. thanks and safe quick driving, Bepa
  2. hey saw your post and was wondering how it worked out for you? good I hope, when you get a moment would you let me know. have a motor and trany and was wondering how it worked oput. is it fun to drive. be well and safe dri9ving, Daniel
  3. usually I would jump at a ride. cross country is a trip but at this time I have/am towing a car from maryland down to virigina. try to pull another car back from florida back to ny. all this and still help pay for a ticket from Hawaii for g/daughter used two weekends, one in hospital and next one with family. if I were coming my first stop in ohio and I'm almost there. something like this would have to be during a vacation. atleast a week long. I would not be able to drive as hard as I would like either. what with having to drive it home also. some fun driving always gets me out and about. post some pictures if you would. safe driving and enjoy the snow. Daniel
  4. how far from new york city? riding with someone else is not the same. that said I am no fool either, may ride with someone first then drive my car if it looks okay. as long as the high centers are not rocks I will try it.
  5. never can tell if I am getting off or not at work. work a single and end up covering a double. if a date is planned early and I can swing it, I'll be their. need to get out and have a fun drive. is this for street drivers or not. this is my daily driver. would like to keep parts on it for as long as possible. still a fun drive is great! I'll keep after this post to see what is happening.
  6. yea we all love that feeling. driving a good running subaru is good; but a turbo is even better and a STI is just off the hook. be well and drive safe. D my other car is an m/b ML55. which to drive?
  7. hey sad4subaru, how far are you from nyc, got a little time on sunday. I am working both days this weekend, mid - 8 a.m. in your case if not to far I would make the trip and we can check these things out this weekend. you cover gas and I will haul a** up to you and we could check out what is wrong. also have sensor's on car to check if you need one. I would use your coil pack on my car. this way we know if they are good. check timing belt then check cam sensor, then crank sensor. if auto zone by you we may even have it running before I leave. holla back. e-mail or sixfoursixtwothreefiveeightthreefivefive.

  9. don't go buying the timing belt yet. you, yes you; yourself can take a timing belt cover off. three blots (10 m.m.) off. then have some one else turn the key. if the belt moves the cams,it's good. it could be a cam shaft sensor or crank shaft sensor. If ECU does not read/sense either one is turning no gas will flow till the ECU does sense it is turning. no rotation, no gas, period. difference between carb and FI engine controls. if not turbo motor, most sensors are the same for several years. go to autozone web site. check number for your car and a junkyard motor and you will find which ones are the same as yours (Motor). them use yard/spare part to check if yours works. but I would first check the timing belt. I have a friend like yours as well. still at times I most double check his work also. I also look for C/B bolts, old trick, leave out a bolt or two out means you are coming back to them. just some thing to look out for. check the timing belt first. this way you know that the motor is turning the cams as well as the crank shaft. once your sure that the cams and crank are turning, next is checking the sensor's. what they do if I get it correctly is use a magnetic signal, sends a pulse when ever the turning crank or cams passes closely by it. it sends a ground signal to the ECU, telling it the cam/crank is moving. with this signal it opens the fuel injector accordly. that is what I think happened to your car. just a quess, but that is what I believe happened to your car. you can check so of this yourself and save your friend and yourself some pain when looking for it. good luck and safe driving. Bepa.
  10. hey man things with get better. subaru's are great cars. when you learn them they are even fun. easy to work on, good for someone just learning how to work on engines. look around for a legacy first generation; 90-94 model years. 2.2 or if you can find a 2.2 turbo. they can be got for a good price. I got one for $940. trany was gone. yes I replaced the trany with a friend and myself. no lift or anything but a jack and jack stands. one evening! since that time I have found 2 SPORT SEDANS for under a 1k. both automatic's. that are running strong. try autotrader and cars.com they are good site's for used cars. they use you zip code and how many miles around you you wish to check. I check every day. also use local used car papers, they are good places to look. anything subaru in the early 1990's is a good bet and can be got cheap if you look around. you should be able to get a good car for under $2000. keep your head up and do not tell the seller how bad you need a car. your looking for a second car. need a back up for when other car is in the shop, girl friend needs a car. anything but that you are in need of a replacement! helps you control the pricing of the first bid. always remember they have a car for sale, but you have the money. If they don't deal with you the way you would like; take your money and leave. money in your pocket does nothing for the saler if you leave with it! oh yes your stuff will be made to fit the car you get. try the legacy because you will not believe the space inside one of these. wagon is even better. look for a touring wagon. this is a turbo wagon, almost as good as a sport sedan, just the space of a wagon. popo do not even give it a second look as you speed by. good on gas. I get 25-26 at about 85 MPH. once even getting to 100 for 15-20 minutes and still getting 25.5 MPG during 600 mile trip. sticks are fun, in a subaru you need to treat them right, they will live a long time. auto's are another story, they must be checked. if you treat them right they go far. do not hammer them. You can drive hard, but they are easy to kill or hurt. if you over heat the motor it is best to change motor and trany fuilds quick. I've had four turbo legacy's, three were auto's. yes I would get them again. only one hard my wallet hard. I drive hard, respond to emergency calls and have family responsibilities. one is special to me, my granddaughter, father in marines. at times we drive thru several states during the night, deliver her and G/M to air port or to where we can see him for a minute , hour or a few days. my four subaru's have let me down only once due to a bad repair. bolt broke after a timing belt replacement. I do almost all of my own repairs now. saved a bit of money and learned how to repair subaru's. not to many suprises that way either. good luck, keep the faith and a good subaru is out there for you if you look. Be Well, bepa. (Daniel). let me know how it goes. wish I was more able to assist you. not on west coast, in new york. your be home when your near me, yet if I could assist hit me up. be safe and good luck to you. D
  11. subaru does have it, cost of $60. I still have to buy one myself. they can order it still. as of june anyway. $60 was jobbers cost!
  12. would like to attend. work first shift that day. thing is we are down 4 guys at work. if I get relief as posted I can leave and get their in a few hours (less if I do not get stopped). will keep in touch. need to get to one of these subaru parties and hang out.
  13. working weekends; but will request that weekend, this is close enough I could try to make it. nice road trip if I get the time off. have to get correct location. map quest here I come. be well, Daniel.
  14. working weekends this month. trip was to far for me to get there in time. only car for trip is 91 SS. not the best car for trailing. still the first level would be doable. will keep eye on post for another event. be well and safe trailing.
  15. just asking; when I had a clutch put in my first turbo stick, with the hyd clutch the pedal was at the top. was told by most it could not be adjusted. it could and I did lower the take up point. ask if they could adjust it for you. price is something that goes with the service and how they back up the service. if you understand what I am saying. guy I know sales cars. he will tell you as is, yet if you drive away and came back a few days later, he would still see to it that it was fixed. he has many repete buyers and word of month sales more cars then ads could ever is the way he see's it. all and all the price was fair for sure. and as you said you have been doing business for a while. enjoy the subaru and a summer of fun driving. a stick in a subaru is a great combination. be well, be safe and enjoy your ride.
  16. double check what your reading. #6 is 2.2 not 2.5 do not believe 2.5 was out in 95 m/y. petty sure it's a 2.2 engine you have. as far as schedule maintenace goes you should check you oil every time you fill up. you need to be sure your oil level is good all the time. at least once a month check your coolant level; you head off troubles this way. if the level drops it is telling you to find your leak before the heater core goes bad, hoses have swelled up and are leaking; replace before they brake on the road type of things to fix before F.O.R.D. the one about tire pressure with the price of gas today I run 35 psi all around. it's on the door jam. you will get better gas milage with the higher tire pressure. 35 is the highest you would want to go thru. any higher and handling and tire life drop off fast. as with all information you take it with a grain of salt, it to can be wrong. A good maintenance shedule will save you trouble on the road (I travel thru the night, go south at night and don't have time to lose to road repairs) hoses that are older then you know should be changed as you can afford them. steps like these with keep you enjoying your subaru for as long as you can stand it. I'm on my fourth turbo legacy sports sedan and loving it. be well, be safe. D
  17. does sound a little high. here's the point, you have the internet, autotrader, cars and any number of web sites. talk to the owner, if it's a dealer bring the ad's of cars in your area and let the dealer know you have options of your own. you should be able to find a few cars in the year and milage to show them. subaru's go for ever, alot of them are in good shape. take your time and your will get one you like and enjoy it for a long time. nothing wrong with a manual if you can drive it. better gas milage and more control in the weather. be well, D
  18. who owns these cars with these low milage. I got a turbo 4eat from a car with 61k on it. it came empty of oils and was clean as the milage would suggest. it is working fine, shifting great and with just one code left the engine is pulling like a race horse at the fair.
  19. one day have to get to meet nipper. just about weverything he said is good or better advise for you and myself as well. judge brake wear by how you drive. best way to keep brakes on a car is drive like you have very little brakes to use and you wish to same what is left. that said you could be one of the drivers who drives like he do not need brakes after he parks his car ( is this me ). I have always wanted drilled rotors; yet my ML 55 does not have drilled or slotted rotors. I have done dead stops from over a 100 m.p.h. and not faded the brakes or warpped the rotors. enough sAid about drilled or sloted. save your money, get a good price or OEM and buy them. you can up grade to a newer motor, stick shift, bigger brakes from a later model. most WRX parts fit your car, brakes rotors, struts, motors, transmissions. the strut tower bar fits also. read on and you will learn what ever you need. be well, D.
  20. just a idea; check the exhust cam or drop the exhust and listen for any air exiting the #4 cylinder. sounds like the exhust valves are not opening. like I said just an idea. good luck with it. D.
  21. hey mike, what's good? I have had four turbo legacys. you can't get enough! do you do any of your own work? if so keep it for sure. if you use a shop I would still keep it. being a stick and a subaru you sure keep it for sure. north east and four wheel drive. how hard is this. you have about 135 horse power in a flat four. new question. last time I price a clutch the internet was fairly new. now a days you can get a good price on the whole kit. having just did an automatic trans in my turbo on the floor with only a floor jack, you can do this. for real remove the exhust and it will go good. two guys less that 8 hours; alot of bull sections also.. go on the computer and you can find what other cars use you o2 sensors in case you are near a pick and pull. F&S auto parts is in roxbury, ct on 67 garnet road. phone # 203-597-9724. I have brought parts from them. easy to deal with. honor what they sell you. on the web also. your about 75 miles from me. but I travel around new york alot. hjolla back if you have any questions. be well, D
  22. from what I have read JDM models are the same under the body. different names, same car. you can use the parts from a JDM in a us models. alot of people use the JDM engines and trannys. If I understand it right the tranny is stronger. at least that is what I have read here.
  23. it pays in the end. you can get a faster subaru after school is completed. be well.
  24. do not laugh to loud with a 4eat in your legacy i would be careful that it doesn't quit any time soon. I'll had 3 automatic's; two of them died. no hole shots, no downshifts to stop or slow car, drove it quick yet did not hurt them. still failures internally. loved the stick for 187k miles till it be came a 3 cylinder. be well, Daniel
  25. first things first. welcome home my brother! good to hear from you. my son is in hawaii. marines, getting ready for his first tour. 24 years old and now he wishies to serve. know what he is doing and why. Bush can go ---k a- ---. sorry if my feelings for what's his name are so bad, just a lot of young man and woman over there. that would be a long trip for me. not out of the question just a long trip. watching all that would be the greatest for sure. will give it a try. welcome home. on the up and up. keep the names of friend written down, know dates of when something happened to you or a buddy. get to the V.A. and open a case for PTSD. YOU HAVE IT, ARE YOU THE SAME PERSON WHO LEFT FOR THE WAR; THINK NOT! GO TO THE V.A. 28 YEARS AFTER MY SECOND TOUR AND I COULD STILL NOT TALK TO ANYONE ABOUT IT. HAVE FUN, UNWIND AND ASK SOMEONE WHO YOU TRUST IF YOU ARE ACTING DIFFERENT. IF SO PLEASE BEFORE THE GROVERNMENT TAKES AWAY YOUR RIGHT TO APPLY FOR A PTSD CLAIM. if no one else talks to you about it you will lose your right to claim it. 2 years for you guys what ************. my e-mail address should give you a cue my I am telling you this. daniel.barry@med.va.gov hit me up if you care to talk or ask questions. and yes driving a zip (my subaru's nick name by officers by me, they stopped me once/caught me). what ever. be well, Daniel.
