Wow, I have to send props out and give a thumbs-up to Marshall over at MWE Axles ... I installed my new ones I got from him (I was going crazy finding some from AutoZone, etc ... if you look earlier in this thread). This was in January. Over the past month, my axles have been clickin' more & more & now it's pretty noticable. I wrote them a couple days ago, asking about warranty info, and here's what I got back. WOW! Talk about standing behind your product!!!!! AWESOME!!! I just checked, the boots are in good shape. This guy is like 2,000 miles from me - he wouldn't have to care less one way or another. I wish there were more people out there like him! I didn't beech, I didn't complain, he hasn't seen pics, etc etc etc. He just said "Boom - let's get you fixed-up!". He could have sent a generic letter saying "Please refer to our warranty policy ...". he doesn't know I'm from these boards, he doesn't know about word-of mouth I could post here ... he just plain takes care of his customers. Anyone else have axle stories? I couldn't more highly recommend this guy!

I can't believe I just quoted myself ... hehee! Well, I get major clicking on both left and right hand turns of the wheel now. WOW, those didn't last long!
-
That happenned to me, too - the burnout happened right above the crimp on the FL. Most likely its the black one. I made it temporarily home by stripping down the raw wire and just kinda cramming it in there. They're ridiculously $$$ at the dealer. Junkyard is a goldmine on that one ...

Amen to that. I would have been pulling my hair out SOOO many times without this forum! I just hope I can start returning the favors.

Hey Soob-Noob: Welcome to the boards! I was a Noob not too long ago - posted a similar thread. I'm told these motors are used in airplanes. Still haven't confirmed that one yet. When I did my re-seal, we couldn't find a SINGLE BOLT holding the 2 sides together. We were like "Are these things really helt together with RTV?"

Your stereo looks like mine used to look, hehe! I'm gonna do the seafoam/deisel flush here this weekend. See how well that works. She needs a new change anyway. This TOTALLY wouldn't bug me if it were the gas gague doing that! I'd be like "Yeah, baby!!" -
Need Info, Fast! WHEEL SIZE?
Davalos replied to TheBush's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hehe ... "H", eh? I don't think I've ever gotten my soobie to go faster than like 68mph, haha! Maybe once in a wind-storm. I think I'm due for some new ones. I'll see what my local place has. I'd LOVE so sit a little taller ... I'm lookin' up @ dogs & cats now as it is ... -

Okay, fair enough. So the 14s must be like 65s or 55s to keep from hitting the wheelwells? I think mine are 165-70R13s, and it's getting close. I think my next option was 175-80R13s and they would have hit the wells (or so I was told .. I dunno.). I've never had a problem getting 13s for sowe reason. But again - it's a work vehicle - I'm not that picky. I have a 2wd also, which seems to sit a lot lower than the ones I've seen. I think I have like the only 2wd Subaru on the planet. -

Can I ask a really ... REALLY dumb question? Why 14s? I see people on the forums going to so much trouble finding wheels and switching hubs and etc etc... is it just a cosmetic thing? I mean, may be it's because I came from 16.5" tires that cost $150 a piece that I say this ... but I can put 4 tires on my little beast for $102 out the door. Hell, "We don't need no sneekin' alignment!" I mean Geeze, at those prices, I'll put new tires everytime I do an oil change and STILL come out ahead! I know for a fact that if I was shopping for 14" tires, my price would almost double for the same load range, etc. I mean, there's gotta be something I'm missing here. It's gotta be the looks/handling, yes? I fully admit that some of the soobs that I have seen here that I take a double-look at from a "wow, cool!" standpoint are pimped-out. And I also admit that I use my soob only for work, so I don't really care that much how it looks. So is that it? Or am I missing-out on a glorious Soobie moment that I should think about? I still consider myself to be somewhat of a newbie. And ... (gulp) after the evidently now-infamous "Virgin Switch" incident last month, I don't take ANYTHING for granted anymore, hehe. I'm never gonna live that down for the rest of my life, I have a feeling! -
BTW ... I heard a rumor that these motors WERE used in airplanes. Was that just a rumor? I mean, I could totally see it - flat-4, output shaft .... nice & light.

I did a re-seal about a year ago ... in fact, I should look - it's probably my 1-year anneversary . I THOUGHT I had a leak at one point (very small), but it turned-out to be PS Pump. I've changed the oil like 3x since then - nothing burning, nice & smoothe, and except for the past several days, the oil pressure has hovered right at 45 psi. I pulled the whole thing - was way easier that way. But I also did lots of other stuff, too. I can't imagine doing the oil pan gasket without ... I dunno, cutting the frame away, maybe? Either that, ou ya gotta lift it. It's a good time to get the thing clean CLEAN, too.

Or ... you could just get rear-ended, like me -

Mine has been doing that too, but only when it's first starting - once it warms-up, it goes down to normal. It's a new OEM pump, too (well, I guess it's a year old now ... ack!) Just started a couple days ago. -
WOAH!!! that rocks!!! That's friggin' awesome!
-
Holy crap, if it's that simple .. wow! OKay - I'll check that out. Is THAT where everything is mounted?...

Lemme see what i can do about pics. It's like 5 degrees here right now ... MAN I miss my heated garage! I noticed a slight ripple in the drivers' side panel ...

When I called, U-Haul wanted like $200+ for a special one for my Soob (90 Loyale). I'd love to find a used one, or a cheaper-made one. Class I is fine.

Got rear-ended last night. After $3k in rebuilding this MF-fer, some chick is paying more attention to her phone than the road. She hit me HARD, too. When she first hit me, in my mind, I was imagining the back end to be totally crumpled-up. I expected the back window to have broken, but it didn't. In fact, when I went back to look, there was no visible damage at all!! Now keep in mind, it was 5 degrees – I would have thought plastic would have shattered. But nothing. We exchanged phone numbers, and we went on our ways. This was easily a 5-7mph impact. I would have said more just from all the noise. I've been in a few accidents, and I have a pretty good gague of things. Anyway, I was almost counting my blessings until I tried to open the lift-gate late last night, and it took a second. And it doesn’t close. It APPEARS that the rear bumper has lifted-up a slight bit. And it is SLIGHT – not even visually at first glance (it was dark) raise in there. But there is a seam where the bumper stops and what looks to be like a plastic liner-piece starts – the seam runs along the same plane as where the bottom lip of the liftgate would pass. That’s puffed-upwards a little bit. But evidently, it's enough enough to keep the rear hatch from totally closing. Anyone have any thoughts, ideas? I have SOOO much money into this car – I’d hate to just toss it. But I also know how tricky these things can be. I haven’t pulled the bumper (it’s still 5 degrees) or gotten it on a lift. I guess I’m just hoping someone will tell me “aw, these guys are tanks! Don’t sweat it!” instead of “Dude .. it’s Vanna White Time” I’ll see if I can get some pics. I have a come-along, and lots of balls. Anyone with experience at this? I was JUST about to put a towing receiver there, too - so I'm not even afraid of the welder. I just want to make sure it's worth it anymore ... Thanks!

Okay okay ... (gulp) Alright - I hereby give everyone permission to stand around in a big circle and pelt me with repeated insults ... Hell, even the Muppet guys can chime-in: ................................................"Hey Davalos, Hope You had a good drive from Florida!" "Yeah Nice Goin', Einstein!! Haha hahah!" .............................................................."Oh Man, my tail lights won't go out, Help!" "Hey, Maybe he lost his virginity in Florida, Bwaaaa hahah!!" Go ahead ... lemme have it. My next post, I will be holding a sign in front of my Loyale that says "Virgin" on it.
-
Hehehe ... okay okay ... Friggin' guys, gotta rub it in, eh? Hahha! Oh, Man, this is gonna suck! hehe! Okay, the TRUTH is, I'm in Florida @ the moment, car is in Michigan (yes, i did not drive the car to Florida becase I thought I had an electrical problem ... boooooy am I gonna feel stupid!). So I disconnected the battery before I left and drove a different car ... I'll let you know when I get back Monday ... and I promise I'll tell the truth. you guys can come up with something I can do for punishment if it turns-out that's the deal ... (gulp)... I can just hear it now "Ok, Davalos - you have to get a custom plate that says "Virgin" on it and post the pics here!..." tick tock...

Wanted to Bump this one ... I replaced my dome light yesterday, and now the tail lights and front parking lights are on 100% of the time, too. Freaky. I can't say that one led to the other - but it's the only thing electrical I can think of that happened. I did go thru some puddles, but nothing huge. hmm... Hey Porcupine - what were you going to suggest if it were also the parking lights in front? ...

92 sedan lifted! Look!
Davalos replied to subaruloverbrad's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That's pretty sweet! All you need now is to design-in one of those folding ladders that can hinge & re-tract, hehe! -
Has anyone tried those eBay shop manuals on CD?
Davalos replied to psychsurf's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This might be just me, but I kinda LIKE a manual ... something to hold, to take to the garage with you, something to get dirty ... I mean, I dunno - just printing up an individual page doesn't somehow feel like the same thing. TOTALLY a personal preference. Or maybe it's because I have the entire like 6-volume set - who knows? I have my Vmax manual on DVD ... but I honestly don't think I go to it like I would if it were a nice thick bent-cornered service manual. I dunno ...
