Figured I'd bump this 3-year old thread rather than start a new one ... gotta conserve disk space & all .. hehe :-\ Bump So yeah ... I called JC Whitney & they said they'd "Look into it" and get back to me. Hmm ... maybe. So i was poking around on the net, and I gotta say - of all the companies out there that come-up on the 1st coupla pages of rearch results when I type in "Auto carpet Replacement" or "Molded Carpet" or things like that, virtually all the places don't even list making them for Subaru. And the ones that do really only seem to do the Impreza ... wow! Is this for real? Anyone do any decent searching for this? I'd love to power-wash mine, but I got heel marks goin' right thru it ... I'm afraid power washing might disintigrate it. I'm just having a hard time believing there's not a manufacturer out there virtually at all, when they list jiust about every other vehicle on the plant. Hell, I can even get a kit for Lambo. but no soob? What gives?

I'm assuming we're talking 1/2 shaft, correct? You gotta watch how you setthose down, etc - you can pop them. Always flat - some people lean them up against a wall up & down ... Also, if you have a new one, the joint itself should be pretty tight - should offer some resistance - the remans are often sloppy. Did you try it when it was out of the box? If the noise is going away in 4wd, I have to assume (and I can't claim to be an expert on this one) that the noise is a torque-relates issue. Something is applying force to a part that is producing the noise, and that force is eing distibuted differently when you put it into 4wd ... what about cornering? Are you sure it's the CV that's making that noise? Can you get it on the lift and manually rotate the tire and listen/feel for it up-close & personal? Does it do it in Neutral? R? certain gears? High speed? High Torque? Each of these answers can help point you in the right direction. Welcome to the boards - hopefully, there are some of the old-timers who can put my sorry-assed theory to rest and tell you what's REALLY wrong. It might just be that you got a bad one ...

I FINALLY got my car's air conditioning fixed!

Hhah ... you gotta love those tail-lights, too, hehe. Can you imagine ... closing that rear passenger door a little too hard? Hehhe! -
Actually, I heard that back in the early-mid 80s and '90s that the japanese were using recycled steel. Not sure if that's an urban myth or not, but I do know that the Japanese invented the casting process (a way to make steel) as opposed to BOF or open-hearth, which is what we were using here for many many years. And in the caster, there are many oportunities for impurities in the steel to not be burned-away. As far as that letter, I would love to say "Cool!" but it really looks like a generic letter that someone cut & pasted a few hings. Call me cynical but ... Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd's business model calls for recursion, so yes - they want you to junk that old Subaru and buy a new one. Even if that means they might have some parts lying around that never sold. Back i the lats 70s, Mercedes was actually sending reps out to buy the old mercedes cars and junk them so that there wouldn't be any "crappy looking Mercedes" out there. They felt it was bad advertising.

I have seen IsoAlc. in the 90%s ... but most of them are in the 70% range. I just took out my carpet from the back which was infested with gas, oil, grass, sawdust, apes-head juice, and other unspeakable festering fluids that was really starting to get to me. Put it up on some racks & got out the power-washer. Blasted the HELL out of it & soaked it in Tide/Degreaser for an hour, and them blasted him away again. WOW!!! Nice (in my best Borat voice) I think you have to take the seats out to get to the fronts. But it's gotta be worth it. I know from other cars I've had the difference clean carpets make in smell ... when you have it out, you can check the floorboards, etc. You will be amazed (and probably sickenned) at the amount of dust, dirt, grime, etc you'll find under there.

It's Almost DONE!!! WOOHOO!!!!!
Davalos replied to Davalos's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hahaha!!! yeah! That would rock! But I gotta warn ya - she's a real pistol. she had me in a headlock last night & was beating me with her sneaker. Glas she wasn't wearing heels! Yep - that seems like it's gonna be the best solution. Don't have much other choice, I guess. Can't use gas on the driveway beacuse it's blacktop. -

Well ... My landlady came to my door yesterday morning. I opened the door, and she started beating me with her sneaker. Before I could respond, she started screaming "Damit, Davalos, I told you to keep that damned car from leaking on my driveway!" Looks to me like it's leaking from the heads. I circled the areas where it seems to be coming from in red .... I did a major re-seal, and figured I had it licked. Any ideas? Should I just live with it? Can I buy body-armor on Ebay? -
Yep .. I can definitely see that. I wish I had a kid .. "C'mere Kid ... Hell, I gave birth to you - the least you could do is get your tiny little hand & reach down there and pull that snap ring offa there!" heh heh ... I'll report back

Heh ... I was messing with the timing the other day .. retarded it a bit. Not enough to ping, but quite a few steps ... Anyway, i was all-excited to see my new awesome gas mileage ... when PFFFT!!!! Speedo dropped to '0', and odometer came to a grinding halt, making my gas mileage suck. heheh ... Question - any common characteristics on these things to give m a good idea where to start tracking this down? I think I see where it goes into the reduction case, and I’m sure there are seals, gears, etc in there. Anyone been thru this? Any land-mines to be alerted? Thanks!

Welcome! I was a newbie once, too - and the welcome I got was great. I think you'll find this place is an AWESOME wealth of info.

Are ebay timing belts any good?
Davalos replied to glfarnes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I put those in mine in January ... with the equalizer ... but there's no way to tell you "it's awesome" since they're so new ... -
I actually did 1/2 & 1/2 .... 50% right into the intake, and 50% into the gas tank ... Here is a video on Google From Seafoam itself. There are TONS of videos on YouTube where a person does their individual car. Just search "Seafoam"

which way advances timing on ea 82?
Davalos replied to matts87glsedan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You can also work the throttle from under the hood. -
Update: Well, it's sloppy ... but it's quiet & it's strong as Hell ... heheh Took the old flange off & the heat shied (btw - Who is the Einstein that designed thebolt pattern on that converter heat shield!?) - the flange itself was ok - so I ground it down to some good metal and picked-up a couple pieces of scrap pipe & a reducer (it was WAY smaller than 2 & 1/4" ...). Anyway, tacked it in, & filled-her up. It's Butt-Fuggly ... but hey ... it's qiuet, and i'll buy me enough time to do the electric conversion if I decide to do it (I did a rust inspection while I had it on the lift ... uh oh! ...) Thanks for all the advice!

*UPDATE 5-6-07*More Lights, Rawr! *FIXED W/PICS*
Davalos replied to jonas's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Those are pretty rad! Have you ever tried taking pics thru your sunglasses? If it's digicam & you can keep the flash off, it might come-out pretty sweet that way, too. Or, if you happen to have a "20-Red" filter, hehe. -

That's pretty sweet .... you should get some night-time pics if you can. You'd be surprised how dope they might turn-out -
did anyone here buy this

Is that really true? Wow, that would suck! -

Wasn't me ...I swear it. -
Anyone know what diameter that pipe coming off the front end of the converter is? Seems like I could just snag a flange (I assume it's a flat flange with about 8" on it) and just forget the patch-ipb completely - just go new flange and weld that to decent metal on the converter pipe ... Inch and a quarter ID sound right?

Tinting, and maybe time for Paint?
Davalos replied to Davalos's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Wow - that's awesome! I have to admt - those rims rally set if off, too. Do you think 5% is too dark? I'm doin git because I keep all my tools in back & I'm trying to keep prying-eyes out. -

I looked at this thread, but most of the pics didn't load ... does that mean they're yanked @ the hosing, or are my settings bad? -
Anyone have any pics of deep-dark tinted wagon? I found local place around here that'll sell me a 100' roll fairly cheaply. I'm actually thinking of 5% (Limo) Charcoal ... just trying to visualize it in my head. Or, does anyone Photo-Chop? I think ultimately, I'm thinking going to replace the front fenders and hood & then repaint - maybe give me a few years more out of her ... still silver, but I think I have seen some nice 2-tones. What goes with silver - white? I'm sure there are peeps who have done it. Question: when you 2-tone, do you take the top color down to the trim, or only down to the fold in the sheetmetal? I used to have an Acura that was white / silver bottom that looked pretty sweet. I'm tempted to go with that. I was happy with this look: In Michigan we can't tint front windows, and I got into a lot of trouble driving this one around town. Got stopped a few times. And these are only 40% tint. See ... the next thing I'm gonna be thinking about is rims ... ugh, what am I doing? Edit: Ugh, what IS it with these sizings? Sorry folks!
