did you read the thread uberoo?? the thread was started by a memeber here. not by fourwheeler magazine... i believe it was micheal appeal who started it. no bets involved, it's just exposer for the community...
-
a couple comments. the editors are going to be test driving a new subaru... and i don't think that's because of the thread. other than that, nothing.
-
that looks like some, wet, sloppy and crusty snow... looks like fun!

my pay has supposedly been fixed, i will start collecting parts again early april. tax rebate check will be buying my lonfield 30 spline shafts. Marlin Crawler 23 spline Dual Case adapter is for sale in the non subaru section. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=85705

well the new intake has finally shipped!! it only took 6 weeks on the waiting list to get ahold of one of these babies!!

well i know it's been awhile since i did any considerable amount of work. but i have a planned working party at the end of march, to start installing prats that i have laying around. ie the diff gears and lockers, the steering, installing the rear v6 housing... a few plans have changed. for example i'm selling my 23 spline dual case adapter, in favor of the 10 degree clocked adapter. when i bought my adapter there was a huge differance in price, and there was no aftermarket tcase mounts. since then the price has dropped about 250 bucks for the clocked adapter. since we are planning a flat belly, or pretty darn close, the clocked adapter will allow for less cutting of the cab's tunnel, and keep the bulk of the weight an inch and a half lower. also since i'll be going with the clocked adapter i'll be using the front range offroad tcase mount and skidplate instead of the allpoo xmember with tcase ebrake... that's the update, hopefully some new pics and progress soon...

well i got the IFS V6 axle to build up now. dad just went down and picked it up for me. so got some more pics. 12 days till i head back to washington!! july 4th, i'm out of here and on my way to washington!!

well it's looking better all the time. the rear waggy's got a spring from the stock rear springs, and a combination of waggy leafs and the old rear springs were installed up front. shackles need to be fully installed on the front springs. but otherwise, the lift is done. waiting on the ubolt flip kits from trail gear right now. the 2 inch spacers are also installed. my dad threw on his 38's to see how they fit. i definately need bigger tires... and sell these 35's i have. one pic i overlooked and forgot to post. well got some more pics from my dad. the springs comprise of waggy rears, and mix waggy and toy rears up front. he flexed it up a little to see how the springs do. i'm pretty darn impressed! just over 28" of flex with tires aired up and no weight on the back end! here's some pics, enjoy!

well here's some more updates, my dad sent some pics, he did a little work while i'm away. the back is all together, the front just needs to have the shackle mounts welded so the shackle can go on. but here's some pics with the tires on and the front sitting about where it will be with the shackles on. with the way the waggys were mounted in the rear, the wheelbase was shortened about 3 1/2 to 4 inches. next to my dad's gmc jimmy with 38's here's a pic with the width measurement. its going to be just under 74 inches in width. a couple new pics of the new front springs and yes i'll be getting shims to correct that pinion angle. new tow hooks

transfering the build over to here... yes it's been months since i have work done. but, i should be well enough and have plans set to start installing all the parts laying around during my spring break, the last 10 days of march. the plans:... what i have and am aquiring as we speak rebuilt 23spline 4.7 twin sticked tcase marlin crawler doubler adapter flatbelly 5.29 gears, spooled rear, aussie locker in the front longfield 30 spline axles chromoly rear shafts waggy springs in the rear, mix match rears up front removing bed, cutting frame off behind shackle mounts and making a flatbed propane conversion sky high steer kit brand new 35x15.5 tsl/sx's or if i sell those, 39.5 iroks... and many more things as time goes... well here's some pics of the process so far. only had a couple days to work then back to arizona for a few more months... as i got her bed removed and lines drawn going to town the hack job... prepped for the waggy rear springs... well the rear waggy springs were installed but i didn't get pics before i left. then for the front of the lift on the next jouney home. or if i'm lucky some might get done on it's own (as a christmas present) while i'm out of state. but that's it for now. more to come in a few months...

i only go over there for the FAQ and cheap parts in the vender's section. that's where i got my ring and pinions, full install kits and a rear spool for like 500 bucks. i'm tempted to pay money and get the FAQ on .PDF file, then i'd really never go over there. i like the harrasing and joking atmosphere of NWW, but pirate is always way overboard, at least NWW i get some useful info... and it's local trail shots. oh yeah, bbcs shocks can be found at polyperformance.com i had the hardest time finding them originally.
-
yes it is, and it doesn't like big tires and wheeling. i remember always smelling a burning clutch on every trail i went on.
-
I just saw it in the avatar. 7 or 8 years ago I had a 1600 and 27's the clutch, easily burnt up.
-
yep, just have to add a leaf from another leaf pack into the toy rear springs before you move them up front.

also realize that i have chevy lift shackles that are 3/4" longer than the longest toyota shackles, and that the rear end is going to come down several inches when i put a spare tire, 2 full 10gallon propane bottles , recovery gear, rear cage, and truck box... the springs are real soft. a lot of people run the waggy's and chevy's. i've heard the f-150 springs work, but are really subjective to bent springs with axle wrap. they all offer about the same amount of lift. we modified my rear waggy's like trail gear does to their lift springs. with the extra 1/2 spring on top to try and help with axle wrap. there's also no bed installed, which makes it look even bigger... as for shocks, after what i've read the bbcs leaf sprung shocks are supposed to be the poo for keeping the rig from bouncing all over and making it real nice (for being a 4x4, no race car here) on the road and trail. the bilsteins 5150's and 5125's in the 14" versions are probably what i'll wind up with. excellent shocks. i'll run the 5150's up front since they have hard mounted external resivoirs, and the 5125's in the back. as for triangulating your shocks... mine will be slightly triangulated, mainly because of mounting restraints. but i am going to try to make them as up and down as possible, with a slight inward triangulation. the more you angle the shocks towards the center of the axle, the less the dampening effect is or resistance to body sway and side hill stability. my shocks aren't mounted yet. but as for mounting the front shocks, 2 common longtravel mounts are ford shock towers, about 15 bucks a piece or shock hoops. personally i decided to go with the trail gear 14" shock hoops. i was going to go for the ford mounts, but 20 bucks more i get a better looking design and reenforced towers, that i know will fit the 14" shocks. have you aquinted yourself with the PBB toyota FAQ? http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=459180 ford shock tower #'s according to PBB FAQ Ford Part #E5TZ-18183-A

Awesome!!!!! Thanks!

i won't be up north to take pictures anytime soon. but yes i have the stock rear waggy springs in the rear. well slightly modified... the lifted ones are super stiff till they are broken in, and i want to keep the lowest center of gravity that i can. it's already huge. you won't need the 4088's or what ever the lifted waggy springs are... for god's sake i got 39's on mine... here's some pics i already have on my photobucket. modified rear leafs up front and waggy 5 leaf rear packs stock toy fronts next to waggy 5 leafs some shots of the rear suspension... none of those are really good pics of the rear, but what's presently online. the smaller tires were the 35's, the larger are 39.5's. i'll try to look through the pics on my hard drive and see if there is some closer shots, what all do you need in them? we moved the rear springs forward a good 6" also, but after the rear springs up front moved the front axle forward, we still only reduced the wheelbase by 3". tell me exactly what you need for shots, i can get my step dad to take a shot or two and post them up for you. there's a reason i bought him a digital camera last year...

your running a 1600 and 31's? that little 7 inch clutch is going to fry pretty quick. the 1600's clutch barely holds up to pushing 27" tires, let alone has no gearing after that. realize trails like kaner flat, you won't be able to run with that setup easily, alot of the other trails, yes, but kaner has an extremely steep, tight and technical section. which a burning clutch and no gearing to get you up is going to be one hell of a shot in the dark... most other trails that will be run shouldn't even be a problem.

sounds like a boring weekend for me... but that's a considerable amount of progress today. doesn't it feel better to be working on the vehicle and not on the lift?
-
well i'm watching... can't do anything else but watch tv, refresh the board a million times and refresh myspace to see no changes either... cutting mounts off those frames is so much fun... we took off all the old suspension mounts on the rear of mine... it wasn't too much fun...
-
nah, can't lift that header yet... it only came in stainless steel... the exhaust manifold was rusted out, leaks all through out the exhaust... and the carb can't be salvaged. it's my daily driver and requires first attention, 17mpg is not acceptable for a stock samurai... the end of march, on my break from school, if i can lift things again, i'm planning on doing some work on the yota. dad and i are installing the ring and pinions and lockers into the toyota. along with the v6 rear housing. the highsteer onto the axle, tubbing the front fenders, and if i can get a rebuild kit for the front tcase, assembling the dual cases, but only if i can lift stuff. then to finish repairing lil' roo, but if they fix my payments soon i'll sell the subaru. if not, then i'm holding onto it untill after memorial day weekend's camp out. yeah, i'm feeling better. still hurt real bad, but better than the other day.
-
yeah that is a short garage. wtf? how much do you think you'll get done this weekend?
-
looking good, must be nice to be able to lift things... lol...

if chinook pass is closed i'm also looking at reiter or evans creek to camp and wheel. i'd prefer naches, but snow depth and the opening of chinook pass is dependent. this winter was pretty wicked for snow fall, eventhough memorial day is usually when they open chinook. second choice is evans if the snow has receded enough to open the campground. anyone interested???
