well no soobs showed... so i have to post the pics here... or i'll get flamed by prejudice... lol... nothing major, but rocks and stock height can get a little tricky... i need a lift... but really need to wait till the truck is done. you all missed out on some great views, and the outlet mall is insane... here's the pics...

i will, i always ride like everyone is out to kill me. anytime i go north i'll just take the ferry... that way i will ride mainly on the peninsula, where there is less population. the crossover fuel line was rotted with age from sitting. replaced all the fuel lines and filters along with the spark plugs. it's already got a brand new batt. tomorrow i'll change the oil and clean the oil filter screen. then see how well she runs. oh yeah, we also bled the front brake that was low on fluid...

well... it's a downgrade from the VStar 1100 custom i sold when i got out of the marine corp... but i just got my old 1972 Honda CB350 back from my grandpa. the bike has never been out of the family, and i think my dad was the first to go over 5k and 7k miles and i brought it to about 9700 miles while i was in highschool. it used to get between 55 to 70 mpg depending on how hard you drove it. i really missed riding and gas is killing me while i'm going to school. not to mention it hasn't been driven since i went into the marine corp... so i called my grandpa to see if i could use it again. so, now to empty the gas, retrue the spokes, and run some cleaner through the carbs... hopefully she'll fire up and drive like the old champ she always was! i'll post pics when i get it out of the truck.

North Shore Wheelers Spring Opener *warning, jeep pictures*
Rooinater replied to Numbchux's topic in Non-Soob Off Roading
hmmm.... someone needs to spend a few dollars on a set of shocks, even rs5000's would be great... -
didn't get near as much accomplished this weekend as i was planning... i was planning on finishing stripping the paint off the back half of the frame and get it painted... but all i got done was helping my dad clear out the garage for the new 20ton press i bought, so that we can install the gears, lockers and rebuild the crawl box. then sunday was a late start for a run to reiter... perfect lines are needed when wheeling a stock zuk... i need a lift on that too... maybe an inch shackle lift for now...

North Shore Wheelers Spring Opener *warning, jeep pictures*
Rooinater replied to Numbchux's topic in Non-Soob Off Roading
i like the thread warning... good pics. actually that is fairly common with those springs. usually after they are up front and improper bump stop placement, which allows them to bend in a negative arch. it happens on this coast also from time to time. -
atv width limits are 48" bulge to bulge... (50" in idaho) but if it looks it, few will probably care, except the DNR and that fact that atv's barely fit on the bridges. why such thin walled tube for the cage? .120 DOM tube is considered standard safety cage material. with the size of tube depending on the weight of the vehicle. .83 will dent fairly easy when you roll... i'd suggest for the structual part to be .120 and anything that might come in contact with rocks at least .120... just my 2cents.. .120 HREW rocker guards on yotas dent and scratch faily well with time...

it was a good day of light wheeling, and reiter was pretty empty by 1pm on sunday. the outlet mall trail is insane, and in the middle of no where! i don't think i'll give it a try till the toyota becomes a formula toy... it wasn't even condusive to walking... we only walked a very short section because of that. the zuk needs a lift, well maybe i should just finish the toyota... we also checked out the mine shaft on the way up to the outlet mall. we didn't go into it, water was running through it and it did not look safe at all.

the only bummer is that they will still be too wide for the 48" width limit on atv trails , but it would be a bad @$$ little sand buggy... how many feet of steel do you think it would require? hmmm... maybe i should buy the jdm tube bender i want sooner... i think a turbo charged 2.2L or larger with the fwd tranny, making a mid-engine dune buggy...

i've looked into it, but it's about as high on my list as rear disc brakes are at the moment. i'll have to do that and some high compression pistons if i run this tired motor with propane. the other idea is to look into a rebuilt engine. but that's a lot of cash, so a rebuild on this engine + high compression pistons and a 20r head might be reasonable.

small update, picking up a bearing press on saturday, some rust removing wheels and some more rattle cans... then ordering some solid pinion spacers for the diffs, and let the bearing pressing begin... other than that i'll just be busting rust and doing some painting this month.
-
one other inconvience is that on muddy sidehills and snow the rear ends likes to drift slightly down hill. nothing major, you'll just adapt, and not realize it does it anymore.

he's got pics in the non-soob offroad section.
-
probably cause he's been out enjoying his toyota...

your welds are more than likely blown. i've never blown my own welds in a diff, but i have had a diff that someone else welded, do that. it's broken and under pwr it won't catch, but under friction from your hand it'll catch just a little. if there is a difference in movement, other than the slack in the splines, your diff is blown... 3/4 of a turn isn't loose splines.

the hike is less than a 1/4 mile and no one has to hike it, we can meet anybody back down at the main pit or power lines. Mainly checking out the gate keepers and the first couple obstacles on either side to see if i'll even attempt it in the yota before the 4 link or even after the 4link. I understand the weekends thing, mine have been filled with wrenching on the yota and family events recently. in the next few weeks I need to put the roo together. more parts for the yota are being ordered on monday... I have serious cabin fever and need to get into the mountains!

suggested items, hiking boots if you are walking the outlet mall. lunch sense of adventure required, tow strap spare parts tools to give an idea of the trail that we are just looking at here's some shots. by no means are we planning to do anything above an easy trail on may 11th!!!just checking a hard one out on foot.
-
i carry about 6 of those (20 more at the house)... i need to get another spare rear shaft. and start removing a shaft while it's off the trail... probably will reduce my breakage, since my car is rear wheel drive...
-
i just want them to not break...
-
why would you want to have your axle break??

Nothing big, nothing major planned. Dad and i were going to drive out to reiter to walk the outlet mall trail. Other than that any wheeling to be done will be limited to the upper powerlines and logging roads. I'll be taking the stock zuk. If time and conditions permit, we might go explore the roads after index, where they soon will become wild sky wilderness... Trip Plans: run the logging roads upper and lower pit areas (they are rough and not really suitable for a stock car but can be done...) walk the outlet mall trail, or parts of it since the trail isn't condusive to walking... but we'd like to get a grasp of what we are planning on getting into this fall. play around on the upper power lines and offshoots for awhile. not really planning on running the hobbit trail (tree trail) or any trail over easy, do to the fact i'm bringing my daily driver, we'll be there more for recon and the drive. Time: TBD Day: Sunday May 11th Meet: Mcdonald's after sultan Purpose: recon and exploration
