  1. put a tcase in and move the front axle forward a good 2 or 3 inches to give a better approach angle.
  2. It's sad about the car, but there will be another. I'm glad to hear that your daughter and friend are ok! cause those are irreplacable.
  3. starting some of the work on the car tomorrow.
  4. yes in the tsl model they make a 28" tire for a 14" rim, and the ssr model is a 27" tire for a 14" rim. without regearing the ssr is a fairly decent tire, the sidewalls are a little weaker, but about as good as any radials side walls.
  5. they had one real bypass made and another steep and slick go around. looks more like a fun spot or challenge to me than a turn around point. it's only a couple hundred feet long if you include the holes and easily avoidable if you know tahuya.
  6. i'll see what i can pull off. might as well pull off a wheeling marathon, nov 30th evans creek, dec 6th greenwater, mid december (around the 14th) at walker... (the weekend of the 19th is my 2 year anniversary and would be killed if i went wheeling) hmm... i'll see how everything goes after the evans creek shakedown and the tree run to greenwater. i haven't wheeled walker in ages, last summer we did run most everything on the atv's though. well i'm welded in the rear and have a lsd up front... shouldn't be a big problem then.
  7. how bad was the traction? the mud in the trail getting really snotty yet? when's your next run? i should have the wagon going by the hp tree run, so mid december i could contemplate heading up there. my tires aren't the greatest. 5/32's on the front and 8/32's on the rear which will keep me from going most places at the moment.
  8. even 27's are too big, hence why i have a divorced tcase and 4.11 gears, to correct the problematic hammer down style of wheeling. but none the less, it's good to know that interco hasn't discontinued the 14" rim on the tsl or ssr.
  9. well the 4x4 clubs up there have been doing work like crazy, here is some pics of slidshow86 and i there early summer... and then the now after the quadrapaws and a few others got the permission to modify the trail... and there is more modifications and a new "difficult" trail coming... this is only a small section, but what a change... so tahuya is still super tame, but improving.
  10. some mods and a few do-dads on a 1980 wagon... tahuya coming down an easy hill before it was recently modified to be not so friendly to subarus. broke axle hill a puddle presently just sitting here... come buy it!
  11. it is nice that they make the tsl swampers in a 28x14 and cheap.
  12. the bobbed rear and dovetailed front look good scott! great pictures guys!
  13. well all the clutch parts finally came in and the clutch and tranny are back in the tuck. i still have to adjust the 4wd linkage, install drivelines, refill tcase and tranny, replace water pump, replace thermostat, flush and replace antifreeze.... then an alignment...
  14. why reopen it? you get a new toy scott?? it's an open and shut case...
  15. not sure if the taco rear ends can fit the older style 3rd member. i know they will in the 95 or older v6 rearends. that's the present combo assembled under my truck.
  16. Evans Creek Trail Run, November 30th. this is a shakedown for lil' roo before the christmas tree run. i want to make sure everything is in top shape for the tree run, since the car hasn't been driven in months. The plan will be to loop the park, depending on time and conditions will determine how the path is chosen; lower easy section of 102, lower 311, 520, 519 out 102 (the worm trail) Basic logistics: Meet at Safeway Gas station, Bonney Lake ~9:00am Convoy to Evans (if needed we can stop to get forest passes in wilkenson) my cb won't be installed in the subaru, so you can't reach me that way.
  17. are you going to tuck that engine up higher? divorced case? if so i'd stuff the tranny and tcase into the cab area to get mass amounts of center clearance, the general pitfall of the subaru... a low dragging belly.
  18. i don't see the pics... not even little red x box place holders... where's the pics!? are you just pulling our leg brian?
  19. it's got the std carb style with the scoop next to the driver's head light and a round filter element. i slapped in a k&n the day after i brought her home. i'll start looking into spacers, so at least an inch with a twist for a spacer, i'll start looking around.
  20. you'd have to ask zap for a copy. if i remember correctly, they didn't go as far as the little and big sluices due to a jamboree that was starting.
  21. for now i won't be changing out the rockers, even headers would be awhile down the road. i've got to get the truck driving, then finish the toyota, then i can start looking into major mods for the 4.3L. simple stuff like the throttle spacer i'll do now, but nothing major till i'm done building the toyota.
  22. same reason i know uhaul won't let you put a dolly on a topless jeep... somebody supposedly jumped out of a jeep, got ran over by the dolly tire and tried to sue uhaul. or so the story goes from uhaul when i needed to haul my car back to base and all i could borrow was my buddies jeep with a soft top. it's a liability issue to loan stuff out and someone overloads it, gets hurt or causes trouble. lame, but there's generally a reason for most all rules... hopefully soon i'll get her together... but i'm not holding my breath yet for soon.
  23. that's all real general and common information that i've previously learned. i already know my hitch rating which is 6000lbs, the trailer will be a 7500 GVW, i'll only put approxmately 10% on the tounge (within the acceptable range of the hitch), i'll use weight distribution bars to help distribute the weight, trailer brakes to help stop with the added weight, yada, yada... but it still says nothing that my truck CANNOT tow within it's towing capacity. the hitch is rated for more than the vehicle should tow. 1k lbs for trailer, approx 3k for the yota loaded, which puts me at 4k, well under the towing capacity of the vehicle. i've been around towing since i was little, payload for the bed, trailer towing capacity are different. the bed's payload is approximately 1300lbs, the trailer towing capacity sits around 5500lbs. my little trailer has a one ton rated axle... so it'll carry about 2/3's of a yota, but the trailer bed length is a little short and narrow.
  24. which is why i found one in 4wd... i couldn't live without it. some of the places we bring the bikes to go camping can get fairly primitive and sketchy. not to mention i'll be needing to use it to go snowboarding and i don't like getting out to put chains on... as soon as little roo is sold i'll be suby less for awhile. till my dad sells his '86 wagon.
