  1. at least someone is getting some work done. I know, the eating popcorn in anticipation smilie doesn't work in this forum.
  2. if the axle and rear diff do the trick, i'll trade ya the tranny. the axle mainly affected my steering. it was missing the balls and would catch while turning.
  3. old pwr steering pump pwr steering pump out new pwr steering pump blown cv, this one was a dusy, all the balls were missing. sitting awaiting an axle, diff fluid change, and diff breather hose. so this is the story from autozone, went to replace the axle on lifetime warranty... got a new axle, got to the car, noticed the threads were tweaked and the nut wouldn't go on... went back in the manager fixed everything, and got a new shaft sent out. it's supposed to arrive tomorrow... get a call tonight from one of their lackies, oh your parts in. awesome i thought... till i get there, axle looks similar... take it home... definately the same one. well the retard lacky, thought it had came in, but in reality it was the shaft to be returned... so still waiting on an axle. well, off to homework.
  4. well the only shaft in stock had bent threads. so they'll have another one in for me tomorrow. waiting game... how I love lifetime warranty parts though.
  5. well the power steering pump is replaced. pull the blown front cv shaft, i'm headed to autozone right now to get a new shaft. then lots of homework to attend to. tomorrow or monday, i'll be dropping the front diff, change the oil and install an extended breather hose on the front diff. and also installing the new shaft. i'll post pics of progress this evening.
  6. i live in the tacoma, gig harbor area. what do you have done to your rig? evans creek, elbe and tahuya are within an hour or so from you. 1 hour and 1 minute to tahuya, 1 hour 13 minutes to elbe, 1 hour 29 minutes to evans creek from olympia... those are the main 4x4 areas close by. olympia state forest i don't think there is any real and legal 4x4 trails, all atv and dirtbike trails. the end of this month to early march i'll be making a run to tahuya, there's a thread about it in this section of the forum. it got delayed because i haven't put the car all the way back together. work in progress as we speak. real mild place, can't get into to much trouble unless you try. well there is a lot of water and mud though. this was supposed to happen in january, but do to money restraints and time restraints i didn't get it done. i now got the money and some time, should be ready at the end of the month. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=82970
  7. I already have an lsd up front.
  8. goodluck you'll more than likely blow up the gears. those spider gears aren't that strong in a subaru. it's not difficult to turn with a welded rearend. all I run are spools or lincoln lockers. you learn the quirks and learn to react to them.
  9. if your going to bother with a light bar make sure the lights are well protected. I wouldn't suggest one, it leaves the lights vulnerable to branches and a small amounts of light in the car can be bothersome also. just mount them protected behind a grill guard.

    Holy Cow!!!

actually if you can't drive with an open diff in the snow, and not slide into embankments or stay out of snow banks; don't weld it till you learn to drive. welding the rear will make your rear end fishtail easier, along with on side hills make your rear end catwalk slightly down hill. learn to drive, then weld. it also doesn't help that your tires have minimal contact with ice( beings that there is huge voids and very little rubber), and probally no siping what so ever.
  11. lol!!! well didn't get the time to change the pwr steering pump, but i did get a tarp to cover the car and so that i can work in the rain.
  12. sweet! wish i had full access to cnc machines and tube benders... my toy would be wicked, but i'll have to pay for the tube work to be done.
  13. tonight, phase 2, pwr steering pump replacement. or at least i'll be starting the replacement. lots of homework tonight.
  14. i'll keep that in mind if I can't find the parts. all ideas are welcome. the shifter won't go into reverse in double low, cause of the shifter swinging so much and interfering with my nissan tcase shifter. so I can't quickly rock forward and reverse in the mud or snow. which poses a problem in washington, wasn't a problem in az, just a nusance.
  15. looks nice! are you going to take the rear fenders straight back when you trim them? one day i'll lift my samurai, but for now i have my lifted soob, and a toyota truggy project ticking away at my wallet. that is definately some beef on the shock towers, tons of custom welding, looks good!
  16. it's not that you can't run the 15's, just be wise about how you wheel with them and get the tires large enough to have a several inches of cushion to the rim. don't air down a ton, and be aware of anything you might hit the rim on.
  17. earliest projection is a shakedown run at the end of the month or early march. the work has finally begun...
  18. at least 33's..., but with axles he can actually run gears low enough to drive 33's and up without using a the subaru lowrange around town. that would be nice. it's doable with 4.11 gears, but pushing it with 31's to drive around town without the suby low engaged.
  19. worn bolts... ok, i'll take a look later this week, hopefully it's just some bushings. i'll just see how much new ones are first. my shifting rod is custom bent to clear all the divorced case stuff; so i have to at least keep the shifter.
  20. never ran it, can't guarantee, john pulled it out of a junk yard for me. appears to work fine... definately a d/r 5 speed, it's the spare for my car. but i'm thinking that the whirring/grinding vibe sound that lil' roo has, is the rear diff. found a few ring gear teeth in the oil of my rear diff. as long as that's the problem the tranny is just taking up space, cause everyone thinks i'll drop the price of the car if i remove the spare parts from the deal... i was just throwing them in for free, cause it's my last subaru.
  21. you didn't like the mean suby on 13's? it's all the rave, no fender trimming needed!! rofl.... lol... but seriously, i let off the clutch in low low and it just idled forward...
  22. no rush, just let me know in advance, cause i only get pay checks at the beggining of the month... i'm going to run these tires into the ground first. so anytime you are this way we'll have to work something out. any more info you need about bead balancing, i'll try to find it. a lot of people seem to be switching to the bb balancing, especially since it's hard to get a good balance on large tires and one good wheeling trip the balance is off. the beads always migrate to spots that are out of balance and naturally balance the tire. that web site should have a bunch of info on it.
  23. sweet, i'll have to look into that, so all the bushings on the arms. i'll have to go to subaru directly for that, right?
  24. it's definately a lot more motivating to see it on real tires... the 13's were really killing my spirit to fix it.
  25. well i have the pwr steering pump (it's in the bag on the front bumper), the front cv is lifetime warranty, i have a spare 4.11 welded rear diff, i had spare ea82 rear adjustable coilovers... but my dad gave them to some friends... grrr... the bushing on the bottom is seperated and tapping on the shock mount. almost tempted to find an ea81 rear suspension and just use shocks. but that will add a lot more cost to the repair. my torsion bars are sagged and already torqued and won't sit level. which is why those ea82 thing-ama-jiggers are on there. i kind of like how they limit the rear travel and keep the axle cups together, but the stub shafts then become my fuse. i'm sure a spare set of tires... other than that i don't know what i need. i know i'll have to bend the exhaust. the way john bent it, the exhaust is right next to the lift blocks, and on side hills it can tap the blocks ever so slightly... scared me the first couple times. i seriously recommend http://www.innovativebalancing.com, you don't have to buy from them. but they have a chart with approximate weights to put in the tires. i did a bunch of research on it awhile ago, on the toyota forums. smoothest balance you'll ever have. go to a sports store and buy .2gram airsoft pellets (non-bio degradeable) and fill the reccommended amount in tires and drive. the subaru has never been so smooth, and these tires aren't worn right. dad is using my iroks, and it's like driving on glass, no vibes at all.
