  1. that didn't take long... same reason i don't think i'll ever sell lil' roo... i'm fond of subaru's and mine... welcome back!
  2. ok kids, back on topic... this car is going to be my wheeler for awhile. if i roll into a decent job when i get out. the yoda will be done quickly and will have a tow rig and trailer for it. if i go to school it'll take awhile...
  3. the whole point is to use the trail. it's supposed to be a difficult run. not easy, with a difficult option. winch, crawl it, high speed rockcrawling whatever it takes to make it... if you run the expressway, your looking for the adventure, and difficulty not a bypass. same thing with the rock garden at reiter... if your on that trail, it's to do the trail, not say you did the trail yet you bypassed the whole reason it's considered difficult...
  4. how much would he charge for cryo'd ones? i haven't done much research into the cryo'd parts. still haven't heard back from anyone else. and haven't had time to email off anyone new. been working long hours. definately not getting new cv shafts, just the stubs in the diffs... i can limit the breaking of shafts by limiting articulation for the most part. the usually stress out and break at full droop. the only time i've broken them otherwise was a weak shaft, balls to the wall throttle and a really good bounce in the rear. which is the only time i sheered the actual shaft and not the joint. still rarely screw up joints as bad as stubs.
  5. yeah, well last time i talked to the lady at the dnr. (before i came in) that bypass was a big no, no along with user built trails and bypasses, within the park. granted that was a few years ago. that bypass didn't used to be there when i started going there with my dad. unless they changed their policies, you weren't supposed to bypass the obstacles. all those bypasses are made by users illegally. and walker valley isn't fond of the illegal bypasses and misuse or user built trails. it's considered a problem there. one of those many pieces of leverage the environmentalists were using while trying to get the park shut down. but awesome pics! and looks like it was a fun ride.
  6. that's an illegal bypass around that stump. you are supposed to go up the rock face on the expressway trail. the dnr has tried to close that off several times. unless they've finally given up on it. but awesome video and pics! hope to make a run up there with you guys this summer.
  7. he's one of the next people to try to contact. but bunk from nw-wheelers also does a lot of custom work. i'd gotten ahold of him first. as soon as i get a free moment this weekend i'll send more emails out.
  8. well going to be rounding some people up and making a run to Superstition mountains. which is just outside of el centro, ca. it'll most likely be early march or late febuary. not just subarus, i'll be inviting the yuma4wheelers out also. there's trails from easy to hardcore, it's a mix of sand, light rocks and large rocks. come one come all. it'll be a weekend campout. no specific date set yet. but setting up the invitation, clear your calendars and come join us! i leave the sw for the nw in 5 months...
  9. well there's one person that'd make 'em i've found. but they have a lot of moving and stuff going on for the next 2 months. no custom work for a month or 2. supposed to get back to him after a few months. haven't heard back from anyone else yet. i'll keep looking around...
  10. not sure if i'll sell it... it's my first car and there's a lot of memories... it'll probably get the diffs opened back up and used as a DD.
  11. well the broken stubby came out easy. and went right back in! swapped out the tcase and didn't seem to fix the problem all the way... so i'm going to do some more putting around and seeing what else i can do... got a wobble in the front right tire and a driveline vibration... then i broke the other stubby... so i'll be collecting more... going to investigate the front right wobble and change some u joints out on the rear driveline.
  12. yes i'm running an (ea81) built ccr 1.8L. that breaths through a 32/36 weber. then to a ea82 5 speed d/r to a datsun 720 tcase to the 4.11:1 ea71 brat diffs front and rear...
  13. i'll try to remember to measure tomorrow. it's around 12 to 13 at the diffs and 14 at the tcase... but it's been years since i've measured. the rear diff is the lowest point. yeah and here you can wheel in any navigatable wash... which means you can pretty much wheel all over... i'll miss that when i leave.
  14. the marine corp measures me as 5'6"... for the last 4 and a 1/2 years... yeah i did just replace the left side... and blew the right... should of aired down, it might of still broke, but it broke on shock load while twisting and bouncing on a rock. if i would of been at 12 to 15 psi (at least, these bfg's flex really well!) instead of 30... i probably would have had plenty of traction and just crawled over. instead of that lovely light and slow bouncing effect i got... it's even more important with the lack of flex i have with the independent suspension to air down on the rocks. but i wasn't even planing on doing those washes... since my friend was following in in his stock expedition... i just passed a few of the crossings... and finally took the turn into the washes... i couldn't resist the feeling to really play!
  15. as for the shafts if you limit the axle movement you'll reduce the stress on the shaft. i have the ea82 rear shocks on the back. it don't move much. well my guts are welded, so the carrier or the housing would have to grenade. i have sheered a weak shaft right behind the bearing... but lifetime warranty and took it off before the boot tore and it fell apart... you make one upgrade... you find another that will need it down the line. with all my gearing i don't get hard on the skinny pedal. the stubby's break from shock load or binding. in fairly easy situations. two emails have been sent out. waiting back for replies.
  16. i see a midjet in the pic!:clap::cool: pumpkin smasher trail, next month i should be headed here with the rockwhores from quartsite... especially if i get a toy axle all welded with thinned chubby springs. 4.5+ rated trail...
  17. well, i'm going to take off on a lead to see how much they'll cost from a machinist in wa. i'll let you know if he writes back and see if it would be production or one time turns. and how out rageous. limiting suspension travel in the rear has greatly reduced my axle snapping. the stubs break now.
  18. which picture? not broken... well i might have a lead on some yota axles. or at least a rear... with 4.10's to match the front! might just cure my stubbies forever...
  19. maybe they'll mistake it for something like a cherokee and then my bumpers will be close to legal...
  20. maybe a wee bit... not much bigger than yours and a little shorter than ken's brat. i'll make some drop bumpers for it... it's a suspension lift in my eyes... so it's not illegal (except bumper height)... subframe, higher gvw ....... a lot of the front pics are up hill and the suspension's pulling out. and or flexed on a rock. and remember, i'm only 5' 6"... a few of those shots are from down hill, making it look bigger......
  21. a little photshop there... more like the one in the arizona crawling thread :-p but a little higher and a wrx...
  22. i was just giving some jest... ligthen some people up. cause if i get some more spare stubs or some chromo's made i'll be running some 4.5+ rated trails and hardcore will be let out of it's box... limits are meant to be pushed and rules broken. tell me i can't do it, and i'll prove you wrong! (not saying you said that, but when people say it. it's how i wheel. i'll prove a point when i'm told i can't)
