i'll vouch that the 83 d/r sucks. the 4th gear is taller than the 5th gear in the 5 speeds. too wide of a gear ratio. but adam by the dual tcase's you mean the subaru and nissan right?? or did you make a doubler after the transaxle? you'd have no driveline... the_bard if he's talking about the divorced nissan transfercase. you couldn't use the pkdavis lift. you'd be utilizing a subframe. and everyone that's done them, that i know of, are like at least 6" lift. basically, you make the lift (or i'm sure you could talk to mudrat. these types of lifts are a lot more spendy than getting a pk lift though. lots of custom fabbing.) custom fabbed blocks on a subframe. you suck the tranny and engine back to original position on the body. put a short little driveline out of the tranny to the tcase. from the tcase it goes to the rear diff, then to the front via a driveline to another rear diff, modified into your front engine crossmember underneath the tranny. which makes it so you can put a lsd in the front too!! lower gearing like around 60:1 to 70:1 final crawl ratio. you can also change the diff ring and pinions up to like 4.44:1. you'd also be the first i've heard of with a EA82 set up that way. sorry for semi jacking the post.

West Coast Stompers Web page updates
Rooinater replied to Rooinater's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well there is now a few more modifications on the modifications page! played with the links colors so that they don't screw with people's eyes. red on green wasn't good for visited links. changed a few other minor things. to make it easier and clearer. if you have any subaru modification write ups you'd like to submit. send them to my email. pictures would be sweet but not necisary. the more input i get the easier i can make the site to use and more mods i can put in that cater to the EA71, EA81 and EA82 cars. -
What would Santa drive?
Rooinater replied to Mendodave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
that's cool! i can tell you what santa really drove though... he hovered into our christmas party at work in a AV-8B Harrier radar jet. and distributed the toys to the children. wish i had my camera. that's the only time we are allowed to bring cameras out there... it's always fun to watch a jet stop mid air, do a 360 degree turn, and slowly land vertically!! or be sitting on the deck, shoot straight in the air and start flying away. still can't get over them. -
well i've seemed to have exhausted my options on finding wether lake isabelle is open or not. everyone i know does not know for sure... the last person i talked to that ran it was in mid to early summer. so that's not any help. some of them have heard rummers but don't know. i guess when i go snow boarding with brian, we'll have to swing buy and see how closed she is. as for the highrider trail in the sultan basin area. is closed! supposedly you can still run it if you know how to get to the rear gate. run it in reverse and come back to the gate to exit. Shaw Lake Trail. is not for sure and only rummers if closed or not. i'll keep you updated if i find out more. Walker Valley. they are now in a closed to motorized vehicle status. from November 1st to March 31st every year. not supposed to, but if you want in go to the lower jeep trail on the backside. and you can get in there. can't get around the gate at the main entrance though. Olympia State Forest. is in seasonal closures. i'll find out the dates.

Well it's exactly one week away!! i'm having some friends try to check and see if lake isabele Tr. is open. if not i'll run to the trail head while everyone plays at the powerlines. and check it out and the water depth of May Creek crossing if it's open. there's 2 creek crossing options at the beggining. the most obvious and the one we've all used when we cross may creek. the easy crossing. there's also a harder crossing up stream a little. it's not supposed to be deeper water but there's a hill climb on the otherside. that's supposed to be steep and might need to be winched. i'll check both entrances and see if the trail is open. At the moment we have 6 vehicles for sure. If anyone else is gonna be driving. please tell me. even if you are a maybe. so i can try to get an estimate of the groups capability. and how long it'll take to get through the trails. if we take lake isabele trail. we are attempting to finish it(i have a bone to pick with the log bridge). but if the snow's too deep, we might not. if along the trail and someone does not want to keep driving. you can follow us on foot or if there is room in the car. also passengers on some harder obstacles might be asked to watch to lighten the load. just a word of warning to those that have not wheeled with me. but you can get right back in after the obstacle. great time for pics though!! usually it'll be a hard obstacle in order to have someone get out. all meeting up info is in the meet and greet column. on the first post in this topic.

40 dollars with the diff breather. 3.9:1 gearing. which would be the exact same as yours. i'd love to have one of those lockers. but will they actual make them for our soobs?? we've tried other company's and they needed more people to want a locker than would could provide. personally i'd buy several. probably 4.

they are reliable if you have a certified welder, that knows what he's doing weld it. also that has done diffs before. which is how mine was welded. it was pre-heated, welded, and slowly cooled to make an extremely strong weld. i've never had a problem with them. and anyone i've known with them. that had them properly welded, have had no problems. the people i know that did them themselves, with there limited knowledge of how to do it properly. i've seen them break the welds and the diff is useless. but anyone i've wheeled with, can attest to the trails it has seen and the very many trails left in that locker. you are more likely to break an axle than that diff. they are definately the best way to go though. if you are making an offroad subaru, the best way. which is the only way i'll go in the rear. the only reason i'm going to be selling my diff. is because it's going to be easier to make a new one than change the carrier onto the new ring and pinion gears. not because it's flawed, just cause it's going to be easier with the mods being finished right now. if you don't want it that's fine. but it will be going up for sell in 6 days. the person that welded mine. i've also had weld a few of the other hatch patrol members lockers welded by. Tex Subafly Turbone and this one, were the suby diffs that were welded. by him. Tex can attest to his. he sheared his rear axle stub on the swingarm off. locker wouldn't give on the road with both axles in. for like a month of daily driving. the easiest way to prevent that is to remove an axle on the road. which takes maybe 15 minutes on a bad day.

Merry Christmas to all. thanks for putting up with me all this time. i get a new suby for christmas... well almost new... thank you everyone, and have a safe and fun holidays!!

the only locker you can buy for a subaru. a lincoln. i can intstruct you on how to use it for a dual purpose rig. i have a friend that is a very skilled welder. they are esentially spools. but there is a way to remove one axle in a couple minutes flat. which as long as you are on the pavement and fwd it drives like a open diff. pop the other axle in and wa la. the ultimate subaru traction. they don't make brand name lockers for subaru. we've been trying for years, just not enough people interested to make the production and design costs. a lincoln locker is what a lot of subaru's are now using for there offroad rigs. they are the most ultimate traction devices for a subaru, and a lot cheaper than a lsd. the lsd that's going in the front of my car is costing a lot more denero than a lincoln locker ever will. if you are interested pm me or post here. i'll try to watch this post. never heard of your hometown. where's it at??

obsession does seem to follow subaru owners. look at me i'm a good example of that.

Tahuya ORV park, WA Dec 26
Rooinater replied to jrgaylor's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
definately give me a holler. i can't do anything big. not that there is anything big at tahuya but i was going to try to get my dad to go out there on the 4th anyway. so keep in touch. some good mudding and two sweet hillclimbs. other than that it's flat and easy. which is for good clean fun and no broken parts. -
if zapar doesn't want my locker it'll be up for sale the end of december. and i'll be in washington at the time. it also has a diff breather that gets routed into the cab. tell me if you are interested. but if zap wants it he gets it. otherwise it's offered for sale to you.

i know of the one you speak of. and it will be the most secret of secret till it is released. it's so classified the secret squirrels in the military couldn't find out!!

lightening silver. yes i know bfg's made a tire that'll fit. but didn't have the time to find a small pic and actual size ond rim sizes. so if you could provide that i'd be greatful. just a web addy with the pic. meeky mouse same. send a small pic or an addy for it. and some info and i'll gladly add it. or if i get a chance between my 14 hour work days i'll try to research it. but anyone that has tires that fit the subaru's or you use for the lifted subaru's. submit where a pic is and sizes and i'll gladly add it. so that all options for people are left open. for the subaru enthusiust, and so they don't have to search as far to find a good tire!

sounds like you are ready to kill the trail!! i'll have some recovery gear. if ken goes i'm sure he'll have the winch. i'll have a comelong and a strap or two. and front end parts. so you ready to puch the suby?? so is it for sure you can go dante?? you'll be missing out if you don't. and will you have a vacant seat??

suggestions for new clutch
Rooinater replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i don't know shucks seems to honor that warranty no matter what. i had a rear main seal blow on me and wreak a brand new clutch. the yreplaced it. they were also dumb enough to not be able to smell the oil and feel it i guess. but i got a new one. -
welding is the cheapest and the only real easy way to get a homemade spool/locker for the subaru. and that's the only way i'll go in the rear till detroit makes a locker for the rear. then i'll go detroit. not to mention the lsd in the front is a great thing to add too.... i can't wait till i get mine back with a front lsd... now i just need to find the rummered 5.13 gears for the rear diffs... so i can lower my gearing even more...

well not sure yet about isabele... but i was just informed of a new trail that is at reiter. no trail used to exist there. but according to my brother. there's a new trail they found with toyota truck tracks. it's supposed to be really muddy, lots of twisty tipsy sections and lots of tight weavy trees!! so we might have to check it out!! they were up there dirtbiking awhile ago and found it. i got directions to the trail and a ph# if i need a guide!! exploration... what a good idea!! well if we run the new trail or isabele trail. i'm going to require in order for you to run those particular trails in your vehicle. 3" minimum lift. 26" mud terrains lsd or locker some self recovery equip d/r range transaxle and a sense of humor about possible body damage. it is very likely, to recieve body damage!! these are a very minimum. i'd rate for sure isabele lake trail at least a difficult crossed with most difficult. and if my brothers description of this new trail is correct. it's at least a difficult, if not most difficult... not sure about it. but the mud aounds delicously deep!!

ok. it's not too late noah. but still trying to locate seats for everyone... my plan is to try to see how "closed" lake isabele trail is. and try to run it if we can make it in there. last time i didn't go all the way. i killed a rim and blew a bead (cause i was running 8psi on accident. oops, aired down to 12 lbs and the cold air really aired them down after i was on the trail and snow for a while. i had supurb traction up all the waterfalls though!!)so we turned around. the weather wasn't on our side. and the trail was getting really bad for the 1600 clutch. but it was still treking. even when the rocks were dragging underneath everywhere!! hopefully i can sneak in there. i know i have a date with that trail if i can get into it. and from what i understand from how far the HP ran that trail. i ran it farther, but i know ken now has a bone to pick with that trail, after the rubicon. i made it within the last 1/2 mile. i only had 3 obstacles left. the log bridge/ and the rocks after!!!, avalanche and the last obstical of the trail the waterfall. we turned around at the bridge due to the very precise tire placement that was going to be needed, due to the holes and gaps in the bridge and there was a lot of ice and snow on it. which didn't make it very inviting to roll off about 15 feet down to a good size creek that was steep as Hell. and no winches to help get out. but more than likely we can't run it so we'll run everything else and play around till everyone starts leaving. the plan is to take the hobbit trail to the powerlines. i'll split real quick and see how closed the trail is... then if we can go all that want to run it can run it. the rest can ride or walk as we creep along. take plenty of digital pics and send me copy's on cd's. then from there depending on the time schedule. run the vnotch, which is quck and easy and maybe the index overlook. and other than that go play in the mud holes and trails in the area to explore. i'm researching about isabele right now.

if someone contacted them and they could. i'd definately want in.
