  1. sure as hell is highly regarded!!!! jason had a 6 inch lift on his gen1 brat. i believe. bet the 1600 sucks especially the clutch for bigger tires. but if you keep the rrrr's up it's a great motor.
  2. the 1980 brat has a ea71 motor in it. not to mention the clutch''s really suck with bigger tires and you get a lot of lag. trust me i would know. i ran an ea71 for a few years in little roo. as for best car that depends... a gen 2 brat is a good starting point. also a ea81 hatchback is good too. depends on how high you are going for how long of a vehicle you'd want. wagons are real nice in my opinion. especially for the height i have my car now. ea82 wagons are a good start too. if you are not using a divorced tcase. i suggest 27" or smaller tires. on pugs or chevy/yota rims.as for the rest it's really up to you. i'd also suggest if you are doing the pk lift/ ozified do the 4/3" lift with the ea81's and do a 5 speed d/r conversion.
  3. just my 2 cents. parts are harder to find for those gen1's and a lot of time or at least by the HP are considered inferior for 4 wheeling. the rear axles are shorter.the front engine crossmember is differant, differant steering, different rear suspension setup. narrower too. part of jason's problem with his. was blowing rear axles. the other part is his rear diff hanger might have been tweaked. i believe the axles (not sure just my guess from what i've seen) have less travel or angle in them before breaking. just because they are shorter axles.
  4. i'm about 3-4 hours south. in yuma, az. not many subaru's here other than newer ones. or at least i haven't found many. there are some ea82's... but parts are hard to find in south az. if you are interested in 4wheeling. i can meet you half way or so. there's a bunch of trails between here and there. worknwood- where in AZ and are you a snowbird?? if your into 4 wheeling you should contact me. or even in just meetin you should let me know
  5. fyi. i'm planning on being up in washington the end of april or early may to drop off my car and go wheeling. i'm planning on at least a day run if not camp out at reiter. i'm determined to go after lake isabele again. i have serious beef with that trail. too much snow last time i was up on that trail. the log bridge has too many holes to dodge on ice and snow. so the toy i was with and i had to turn around. so if you are interested. i'll be up in that area hopefully and can run all the trails in the reiter pit area. hint, hint. that'll be my last trip to washington for 7 months to a year. you should come mike!!
  6. well i went through some of the pages yesterday and today. re wrote and updated small stuff. updated the links page, and the events page too. fixed small errors on multiple pages. Added Noah in the members area. and he now has some photos in the gallery. awaiting tex to send his info so i can add him in there. Also went through all the gallery's and added the same background as the rest of the site. so it's all the same look and colors. any members that have a gallery login, need to look in the properties section of your main member's ride gallery. before creating a new nested gallery. look at the background url and use that on all new gallery's you create. all other colors for sure automatically duplicate. just not sure about the new background. if you can't figure out how to load up the background, email me and i'll do it. Also created a page for John's Subaru Customs' and Fabrications. for promoting my new style of lift and his work. anyone that has lifts or major modifications done by him please email me pictures or post them. so i can put them onto his new gallery of his work and mods that he has done and does! thanks all help is appreciated! A logo is being decided on between junkie and I. we'll nit pick down to our favorites and then all the members can vote on a logo. right now junkie has reworked a logo and text will be added soon. check out the post on the artist need for logo. for more info on that. As for trail runs. that is the way to gain membership. so if you are interested in joining contact me and i'll try to makke a get together for your trail readiness level in AZ or So. Cal. I'll also hopefully be in the washington area for a 4x trip in april or may. realize also anyone that has completed a trail run with me is eligible to become a member without requiring another run. if you've been a driver on a wheeling trail/trip with me you are eligable. keeping you updated. and will continue to keep you updated.
  7. hey all you here in the state of arizona. i'm going to be planning on making a trail run and or get together, up in the pheonix area mid march. any and all who are interested let me know. trail run can be extremely easy to whatever difficulty you want. just let me know. otherwise i'm calling overkiller and gonna try to go with him on the Lower Woodpecker trail.
  8. they painted the green hatch!! i loved that car!! that was the second lifted suby i ever rode in!! sweet82, you've seen my car you should know i don't care about damage. i've dented the floorboards up. banged them with a hammer to get them somewhat down again. the whole passenger side is one big dent. i've torn tranny mounts when it had the smaller lift, cause i high centered on some really knarly rock face here in the desert... trust me, body damage and that stuff i don't care about. not to mention just grenaded a lower cv joint on the front left axle and broke a diff stub. (i was being crazy and dumb with the throttle in the dessert)as long as there is parts or a way i'll make it home. that's why as soon as i get back from the boat i'm planning on buying a 1 ton pickup and a large flatbed trailer. so little roo can become a trailer queen when i leave the safety of home. and also can stock pile parts in compartments on the trailer.
  9. it's not screaming for EFI it's screaming for a weber!! just kidding. i don't know what the differance between the cis and fuel injection. must be more powerful. but just remember to ventalate any computers that you seal for water and mud. i've wanted to convert her to fuel ejection. but am happy with the weber. all i need is one more piece of electronics to go bad!!
  10. that's sweet. i hope i get the chance to do that if i ever have kids. so basically she's the worker, and you are the CDI (collateral duty inspector) and the QA (quality assurance) i wish i got to do more of that when i was younger. i did a bunch but more flashlight holding i think. i remember the first set of drums i got to do by myself. that was like at age 11 or 12. i was like you trust me to do such a job?? never got to rebuild an engine that young though.
  11. i was too half the time. if i wasn't doing a hard trail or camping out i'd leave it in for weeks. cause i can get really lazy at times.
  12. there's a good reason the lincoln locker link won't work! cause there is no link yet. haven't got around to building that page yet. i'm working too much. there's still a lot of stuff that's no where near done on that site. think of a spool. that's basically what it is. like said before on another post. you can do a quick axle removal before you hit the trail. ie 15 minutes. otherwise while in fwd and an axle removed it drives as stock. but why would you want it to break loose off road?? in my experience that's a loss of traction and a loss of making that obstacle possibly. that's why i have a welded diff in the rear and a lsd in the front. the strongest way to build one is to weld the spider gears in all 4 corners, on bothsides, where the gears mesh together. and then weld the gears to the center shaft. that's the strongest way to do it. cause all of that metal is the same tool steel. the weaker way to weld it is the outer spider gears to the actual carrier housing. which is a way that it's more likely to break. do to the fact you are welding cast to tool steel.
  13. if you spend the 100k for the initial tooling and design. then yes it's possible. but we've never been able to get enough that'd be willing to chip in. i talked to calmini about gear reduction kits. and they pretty much said we'd need about 100 people at 600+ dollars a kit. not enough people that are willing to spend the money. i'd take out a large loan to help out getting something like that. but there's not enough people that have my type of outlook on wheeling. or at least in the subaru arena. there are a few. but not many. and surely not enough. that's why i went to the divorced tcase. i didn't like hammering the skinny pedal. but would do it, cause i'm damn well gonna make that obstacle!! 2 traction devices and 3 times lower gearing. why not?
  14. i'm sorry i haven't been getting back to anyone. i've been working 14 hours a day. today i'm working 16 hours. hahaha now if only i got paid overtime i'd be rich. but i only get 14k a year. so i'm poor. i really like the drawing heartless. and kyle too. miles is drawing something too. so i'll decide on a for sure in the next couple days. more than likely i'll use more than one. thank you to everyone. i got to run back to work. lunch break is over.
  15. he's gonna be down here in AZ. playing with me junkie. that should ileviate doubt of why he'd want one. but with out a lot of cash. you can't get one in a stock tranny. if you are gonna spend that kind of cash. go down to mudrat and have a lift made like mine. then you'll get the lower gearing in low range and traction devices. torxx--- lsd are good for offroad, better in the front than the rear. added traction for hard trails. the lincoln in the back is the best in the way of subaru out back traction. they aren't that great on ice in the front though. they pull you all over if the road ain't clear., not to mention make turning on ice a B#%$H. cause the car wants to go straight if you are going to fast. but in the front adds the best little subaru combo for traction and also able to drive on the street.
  16. actual molded hoses, should be the ones that are preformed per application at pep boys or any other auto store. they are pre bent. or at least that's what they have been reffered to at the auto stores and around home. i don't know about the spring inside of a hose... never seen one.
  17. buff and clear coat it! it looks sweet the way it is.
  18. my cannon a70 can do 3 minute videos. got to get it fixed though
  19. just click on the register link on the gallery and start posting pics. just need to add some more drool. :slobber: me likes. i'll get some sound bites of my car when my camera is working again. it sounds pretty beefy too. not that much. ........
  20. oooooohhhhhhh!!! that brat is definately gonna be getting up and going!! cough, cough, sniff gonna need a passenger seat ride to uh uh verify, yeah, yeah that's it. cough, cough. i'm loving it. so what's next?!
  21. the stomper above, on the mountain background a different shade green with a black outline, and white caps on the mtns. ea81 logo on the left side, ea82 on the right. the words forming a triangle type shape, in yellow. i sent harpua the sketch and more details on text style. but that was just an idea with everything i've been sent so far. but still looking for all options if that can't be made. keep on sending please. cause i'm still looking for a design. thank you everyone.
  22. well i've been compiling ideas from what everyone has sent me or posted and i think i came up with what i'd like it to look like. extreme rough drawing. still open to all suggestions. it's not designed yet so it's not in stone. but still looking for anyone's ideas and designs. http://www.westcoaststompers.com/Photos/wcsscetch.bmp -ma-fia- the pic of my car is staying (till i get a better one on the rocks) but i want a logo on top and on links and some pages. the green base design is staying. cause i love green and it's also the color of the woods and everything that's good.
  23. i forgot about that bearing... trying to forget... so 4 bears in 2 years... i guess bearings really don't like me... hope these ones will last a little longer...
  24. i'm looking for an artist that can draw a logo for the west coast stompers. or multiple logos. it would be on the front page of the site and also on any logos that were made. so i'd need the permission of the artist to use it on anything west coast stompers related. i was thinking a little subaru stomper, a hatch or brat. on some rocks and a mountain backdrop. keeping it simple. so that it can be easily used on shirts and stuff. is there anyone willing to draw up several scetches?? thank you to all that can help. i'd really like a logo on the front page instead of just my car.
  25. no solid axle on that hatch. pure subaru. except the tcase...
