  1. i'm an aviation electrician for the harrier jet. i'm with VMA 214, the Blacksheep. At MCAS Yuma, AZ. Jacksonville, NC. i was just there like 4 months ago. visiting a friend. that is stationed on camp lejune. can't spell oh well. i was at cherry point for the rest of my C school too... god i was glad to get out of training commands. now i just work10 to 16 hrs a day... not better hours... but better freedoms... no my car is still going to have the name "little roo" it was named after one of my baby sisters favorite tv show's baby kangaroo. i haven't changed her name yet so it'll stay the same.
  2. i'm a permanent station at mcas yuma. just picking up little roo from john and visiting family and friends in washington. i have ph#'s for friends in miramar and pendelton. but they aren't much help for parts, or subaru's. if it isn't a street rocket or beer they don't know... the marine corp is an awesome brotherhood. but i haven't found many that own older subarus.
  3. well i'll be driving little roo from seattle to yuma. 1500 mile trip once again. i'm praying for no problems. but it would be very helpful and i'd be very thankful to get contact #'s in case of an emergency on the way. beings the fact i'm driving against the clock to get home in time for my orders to end. thank you!!
  4. no i'm talking about his really old hatch. before he started lifting his cars. and that's a 3" last time i checked and is now sitting on my old swampers. eric buys, sells, and modify's subaru's left and right. he's owned more subaru's than i've dreamed of owning. can't find a picture of it right now. but it's a white hatch. and he owned it in the late 1990's is when he owned it. the hatch was way before it says you joined the board. cause he had it way before i was a member. seen it on videos, heard about it, and seen many pictures of it. ahh i think this was the one. http://www.hatchpatrol.com/ECHatchpatrolec2.jpg can't remember but i believe so. if not i'll hunt down another photo.
  5. detroit lockers do not require wheel spin to engage!!!!!!! they are more similar to a welded diff than a lsd ever could be. a detroit is always engaged. except like on corners on pavement. you'll hear a load clunk as the mechanical portion disengages. but it takes a hell of a lot of differential forces to disengage it. no wheelspin required. otherwise they are locked solid. my dad and family in their 4wd's have been using them for years. locked, that's why they are popular in jeeps and offroad rigs. if they required wheelspin to engage, they wouldn't use them. they are a far superior design to welding the diff. and even more superior design than posi or lsd diffs a true posi-traction is a limited slip. it was a name brand from older either dana axles or ford axles. all it is, is a limited slip. clutches and all that crap. no true locking device. it just helps keep them together at the same speed but gives fairly easily. just like a lsd. an lsd is a knock off of an original posi-traction idea. look at the auburn posi designs for truck axles. hmmm kind of funny how all it is, is a limited slip. no true locking device. all it does is help get positive traction to both wheels. major misconception of what a posi is!! a lsd is not locked all the time it slips all the time. that's why you don't get chatter around corners. like a welded diff..... but it resists the slipping effect. i'm not the one to argue with about locking differentials. i've been into 4wheeling with other types of vehicles for too long. and helping modify solid axled vehicles since i was 12 i learned quite a few things. and for sure as hell detroits don't take wheelspin to engage. posi traction means positive traction. not a locked diff!! i don't know where you got your information but it's very flawed. if you want to argue about ox lockers, arb, detroit, lsd/posi or anything like that i'm not the one to argue with. cable locker, air locker, and mechanical, and clutches.
  6. posi traction is very possible. what you need to get is a lsd (limited slip differential) out of one of the ea82 turbo cars. or find one here on the marketplace. and change the 3.7 ring and pinion to the 3.9's in your d/r rear differential. and bolt her straight back into the car.
  7. cool!! i just can't wait to see the Hatch Patrol again and go wheeling! You guys are some of the best in the country to wheel with!! i'm gonna have to take it easy at first. cause i'm gonna have to completely relearn the center of gravity and how she handles. 6" total height gain, power steering, lower gearing, and a lot more horses like almost 40!! i'm really gonna have to relearn wheeling her and how to finese her... but it's all worth it. especially the power steering and gearing part!!
  8. blue smoke is oil burning white smoke is generally water being burned black smoke is generally running way to rich on fuel
  9. i know you are asking zap. but he used pug rims, 14". if i'm not mistaken. if you use a chevy or toy rim. your offset will make the tires stick out farther, causing you to have to bend more of the back of your fender and cut more of your fender to make them fit.
  10. no i'm not sure i recognize any... well i've been trying to work on my modifications page... but i have a broken digi cam and no car right now to take the pics of. my car is still under the knife. but 8 days till i pick her up again. then i'm stealing my dad's digi cam and getting a family subaru photo!! and a ton of pics of the mods and the metamorphisis that little roo went on. I sent her to john's house and she's taking the steroids!!!!!! hahahahaha!!!!!! i'm sure it won't cut all the questions down. and i really don't care too much if it does. i just want a place that can be refered to for everyone for modifications info. figure i should spread the knowledge i have learned. and the courtesies that were handed to me. and also try to cut down on mixed information that keeps getting passed of wether possible or not. or can it be done? if i can help one it'll make the months and hours after hours of compiling my site worth more than the time i put in it. thank you miles for all the help you've given and comments. between our sites there should be a huge compilation of subaru info in a very close area.
  11. you'll need to cut the fender and bend the back of the wheelwell a little too.
  12. yes 26" tires without a lift are possible. Zapar used them on his old, old white hatch. without a lift.
  13. wow any clutch set i've bought from them or any other company was like 125 bucks or less. if you are gonna spend that much. supposedly centerforce has one for our cars now. or spend the 300 bucks on a kevlar. if you are buying a regular clutch at autozone for that much... you are being ripped off... any clutch i've ever bought was a lifetimer. realize also. lifetime clutches really are usually a lower quality. same with a lot of lifetimer parts. due to the fact they make it cheaper. not as high a quality, so they still make profit. would you sell the highest quality part/expensivest to make, that is a wearing part. not if you wanted to still make money. realize by mdjdc saying he's put in 3 doesn't mean it was in the same car. a lot of us own multiple subaru's.
  14. well i went through my old tire write up. i took all relative info that i saw. and rewrote the entire article. reissued the pictures into the article. and made a more detailed and precise article out of the posts that were added. so that it'll be easier for the point to be made and the options to be read clearly. Tell me what you think or if you have any suggestions or tires to add to the list. http://www.westcoaststompers.com/mods/tires.htm if you want the nav bar on my page to appear you need to go to the home page then to suby mods and to the tire write up.
  15. your project does not need to be complete to wheel with me.the site does not say you must be modified to high heaven to join. come with us on the run in sacremento. i'm sure you'll be able to make most of it just fine. i like the new background. i hope it made it look less bland.
  16. well redid the backgrounds on the whole site. to hopefully give it a little less of a bland look...
  17. i like my 32/36 i use the dgv which is a manual choke. the next one i'm going to use is the dgev which is the electric choke.
  18. well started updating the trails pages. i have the northern puget sound and northern cascades done. i'm working on the southern pugetsound and southern cascades right now. DreamWeaver just crashed on me so i'll have to do it later. in the during the next couple weeks this is what is coming. Moab trails Arizona trails So Cal. Trails
  19. well i hope more people will be driving. so we have plenty of cars and room. -mikew- yes i know they aren't on the new page yet. i'm slowly transferring the stuff from the old site to the new one.when i get around to making the trails section. i was going to put that as a link in the trail section. also http://www.nwjeepn.com has some good maps and gps fixes. i'll be hopefully starting on that in the next few weeks. well i hope you can make it.
  20. yes and no. around the powerline trails there is plenty for you to play on but the harder trails i suggest riding with someone. so you could bring it. take the easy way to the powerlines. we will take the hobbit trail. then you can ride with us after we are done at the power lines.
  21. definately pack food and water. cause we will be there all day. hopefully there will be plenty of room for everyone that wants to ride.
  22. sweet miles!! that's a lot of photos. just curious how's the logo goin?? thanks. sweet82 little roo is still under the knife. all the lift blocks and stuff are in the car. i believe the subframe is in. the tcase, engine and tranny are next along with the diff mounted in the front crossmember. the tires just arrived and the rims are coming soon. 11 days and counting till i get roo back!! i can't wait!!
  23. The subaru offroad modification page has now been implimented. it's up and running on the site. more mods to come as i get photos and write ups made. feel free to submit modification how to's and pictures for modifications. In the works a club logo. for the site and other member related stuff. there's a lot left to do. but i'll keep it updated here.
  24. i did a article a long while ago on trimming the fenders. i re made it and put it on my new site under subaru modifications. but yes if you are using pug wheels. you should be fine with 26" tall tires. http://www.westcoaststompers.com/mods/mods.htm that should be the right link but if not go to west coast stompers main page. on the link bar go to subaru modifications.
  25. ken's right us wagons start stuffing too much in the car... that's why i'm going with a roof rack!! just kidding that's not the real reason. it'ls to clear space for other things. put the tools and tire on the roof. so i can stow weapons and grocery's in the back that way i could also sleep backthere. cause with my tools there's no room. but anyways. i think that place would be a good place to store things. it's about the only semi dry place under the hood of my car when i go mudding. i'll be storing air tanks there. for my future project "on board air." i got most the major parts. just need the tanks and lines now.
