Subaru_Mechanic replied to danrenfroe2016's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
too bad you didnt live in WA id give you a carb and water pump. (onlyto a fellow subaru fanatic) -
u have good taste my friend, my need for speed is far much greater. i want a EJ25TT 600 horses :burnout: :burnout:
-
im stickin with the 81 too. im in the middle of a swap. i pulled my 79 and am droppin in the 81 engine tranny and cross member. then this summer some an EJ25TT the best engine a gen 1 would ever see. but first the 81 gets bolted up...

you should get a ea71 carb. do a clean and power tune then like magic its a monster idling like a rally ru and will have throttle responce quicker then lightning. almost breaking loose before the petal hits the floor. i had mine tuned so well i could stomp on it and the wheels would let loose a fury unseen by gen 1 subarus, and turn heads of jeep owners. i had to pop the clutch to spin em in 4 wheel drive. (plus less would go wrong with a stock carb, webbers a really good but bulky and have alot of linkage that fails. my opinion though) -
omg i put a cerry bomb on mine too. and it sounds great. (i love the crackle or the crack and the peak of the rev. it sounds so mean) i did the same to my carb and i also ajust the hp jet.

Cleaned EGR system, what a difference!!
Subaru_Mechanic replied to Frank B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thats a bit more knowledge for me. ive heard if the EGR fails you wouldnt even know. so much for that. great findings! keep up the teaching:headbang: -
that is very true. my 79 will smoke the tires all day but will only go 90 mph. as for the 81 it bogs but is alot faster. (not for long:lol: im moddin the carb) now the 79 is gonna be a big 4x4 independant suspention go cart with a 4 speed tranny. (after the rebuild that is:-\ )

is there anything i need to look out for while swapping the clutch off the bad engine to the good automatic engine?
-
your thoughts are right. the engine will bolt right up. and the heads are interchangeable. (im working with EA71 EA81 and EA82 engines daily right now)

i wont put a engine into it with out everything else (dont worry) ("once i get all the EJ parts rounded up") ill probley end up doin the EJ swap this summer since i dont have the money for ALL the parts right now. im no dummy ill finnish everything. (ill finnish my ea81 swap and drive the brat until i can pick up another subaru then start on the project, remember i live for this, if it werent for cars i would be a numb soul) and i realized that this should be in retrofitting after i posted it but its all gen 1 at the moment. thanks for the support for those who gave it:headbang: and bein nice. is there anyone local who goes muddin out by black diamond? i met Zappar in seattle and thats the only board member so far.. -

i have the carpet and bad engine, i coverd the dash myself and so far have repainted the hood bedliner black, i bought more paint and bondo to finnish the body. after that the wheels get sandblasted and repainted as well. as for my ea81: i pulled the engine and dropped the front end tranny and all. so im ready to swap. that is until i get the EJ parts rounded up... i miss my old ea71, i miss smokin the tires when a f 250 would rev up its cheap horse power. it makes people drop their jaws, expically when i shift and their still smokin without rpm loss:grin: but i suppose i can do it again.. (but all those hours of fine tuning gone...) -
i odnt know about the newer brats be my 79 has a 1' wide x 2.5' long x 1.2' space right in the middle of the driverside underbody. thats a good spot for a fuel cell...
-
okay i got a job offer from comcast... instaling wireless internet, and makin 30bucks an hour. i want power! and my ea71 would look Amazing with a twin turbo. EJ25? ive said this lots of times but i actually got my S*** together now. so the question is: should i go all out? i have the car, all i need it the fire breathing EJ25T. i know its lost of work but i CAN do it. the dash and gauges wont matter everything will be custom if i do go threw with this. now what is ur suggestion? and whats my price gonna be? (guesstamate) my guess is 5000 bucks:confused: (totally worth it for a car that will some all 4 tires and shoot flames with a sound louder then thunder (im a horsepower freak:headbang: lol)(i wanna be able to turn it sideways goin around a corner (on a summer day) without poppin the clutch:grin: just give it some octane and whip it.... so what do you guys think??

Subaru_Mechanic replied to Subaru_Mechanic's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
well i dont have a camera at the moment. but i need that deal that connects to a pump and a butterfly valve in the carb. it is usally a round shape and it had a coil type spring in it. it connects right next to the air intake port on the carb. do ya know what im talkin about? well mine is busted and just hangin there. -

EA swap questions
Subaru_Mechanic replied to Subaru_Mechanic's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
i know they are different but i was wondering if it would run with the swap. front passenger side boot keeps exploding and the drivers side slips off. and the ea81 radaitor may have a leak in it:mad: -

yea hes a nice guy. hes sellin a justy and a wagon too. (on craigslist) -
i see. pulling the egines should be the only slow part tho. i work pretty fast. and if i do have to trade the rear diff. it wont bug me cause the 81 is locked (welded) and the throughout bearing is good in the 81 also. as well as the dash, carpet, seats, seat belts, pretty much the body is scrap metal (not even a crack in the windsheild) so i know what im gettin into now. i guess i will pull the ea71 engine and tranny and roll it back out then part the ea81 and cut it into scraps...
