i didnt mention that i didnt pull the engine or drop it. i just unbolted it and put a little floor jack under it, the like magic i tilted the engine to the side and had working room. it took an hour to pull and put the plugs inplace. (pretty good considering i was in some cold weather and i was using a desk light to see oh and in the gravel driveway) well the engine quit working. i dunno why but i got another one 81 -
i picked up a 81 brat and dont know what all is different from the 79. i noticed the engine isnt a direct bolt on...

86 gl... the passenger headlight went really dim out of nowhere:confused: my best guess is a relay, but which one? its so dim the cops dont like it. (bulb replaced today and problem is still there.)

Anyone tried to quieten cabin noise?
Subaru_Mechanic replied to nathan.chase's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
oh man! i use bedliner in a can and that does amazing well (runs $8 a can) heres me way of making it almost silent: rip out carpet and padding, clean floor very well, spray two layers of bedliner (its thiner but stronger). then get adhesive spray and lay down dynamat everywhere you can or your problem areas. then spray another two layers of bedliner on top of the dynamat (even more sound proof but acts best at water seal) then re instal the carpet. IF you dont want your carpet i recomend boat carpet. (its really strong and water vaccumes right out of it) im thinking of a way to silence the wind noise that comes from the windows... did this help? -

maybe start it and while running start disconnecting hoses (one by one, reconnecting each hose before moving on) to see if that hose has any effect while disconnected. thats a easy way if there are tons of hoses to work with... -

that happend to me while i was workin on a 86 sedan. i was playin with the distrib. and when i turned it counter clockwise the idle droped and when i'd rev it, it would squeal the belts. so i advanced it and the idle regulated and it stoped backfireing. and! quit squealin the belts. if your belts are tight the coolent shouldnt effect them they get wet all the time. (rain and what not) um and how many vaccume lines do you have? i might have a easy way to check for the leak... -

what did you do with the timing? and did you check your thermostat? you may have fried it, (opends too late or at the wrong pressure) and the gutless part... check timing, plugs, plug wires. what all did you do to ut:confused: -
i love the pic of the keys... dont tell anyone (haha) older toyota keys work on subarus. i dont think anyone will use that info for bad use.

if you have some extra change, you should invest in some spectro hoses. i like em. they're super strong... this site has all the hose sizes and fittings you'll need. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category_10001_10002_10603_-1_10109 -

i gotta pull the thing out now... think i can lifet it by myself? i was thinkin about puttin the engine on the bed and fixin my oil leaks and throw out at the same time. -
oh i know. i was tryin to figure out a way to eliminate seams.. im still woking on it too. and the whole steering thing, i had a stock wheel in it when i riped stuff... this one is padded:grin: it helps and i dont feel all the vibrations. fabric is good for the dash because its washable (cleaner and a shop vac) it doesnt fade as easy. and it give a cool padded comfort feel that the girls like. (theroy tested and proven:lol: )
