New to Subaru/ oil & engine ?s
Looks like someone already beat me to it! Well, lets start with the part I know for sure! EA81/EA82 are the engine/chassis codes for subarus made from 1980-1989 (Some EA82s were made until 1994). The EA81 was from 80-84 (Some were made until 89) and the EA82 from 85-89/94. The oil leak could be bad rings, leaky gaskets or any number of things, so I'll let someone else tackle that one!

air shocks for Brat 93
How do you figure that?

Master cylinder swappng
Bleed the system really well afterwards. You might go through a few bottles of fluid (Don't resuse the new fluid that goes through the system), but its worth the cost of wasted fluid to not have air pockets in your brake circuit.

Quattro San lives! (Updated as of 11/2/2004)
A little history lesson for the newbies. This: http://usmb.net/gallery/album287/Quattro_San?full=1 is the grand daddy of the performance subaru in the US. It began life as an 82 4WD hatch that was given to Western Washington University to develop a turbo system for subaru in implement on it's factory cars (EA81 Turbos). This is what the students and staff came up with. They were also the people who developed the overhead cams that EA82 owners have today as well as various other side projects such as a diesel EA81 and various subaru powered cars. Any how, back to the story at hand. So, we moved this little bugger from its resting place (After filling the flat tires) only to find that pushing it didn't do much because the shoes in the driver's side rear brake were frozen to the drum. After dumping a bunch of oil on the gap in the drum it moved freely and was actually very easy to push! Anyway, we filled the tank with 92 octane (Almost put in leaded race gas!) and filled the radiator and checked the oil. Everything looked good so we gave her a try. Even after sitting for at least a year and a half (Probably hasn't been driven in at least 5-10) the poor car turned over! Then I remembered it was carburated so I fiddled with the choke and it actually started and idled very steadly! However we were told the turbo (IHI RHB6 for those interested) probably had a bad seal. This is probably true because the exhaust was full of blue smoke! We had also been told that it went through is entire supply of coolant in about five minutes, but we weren't told how. I assumed it had a really bad blown head gasket (It was a development car that has been beat on pretty hard after all). Thankfully it only appeared to be a very bad water pump gasket! Those are cheaper and much easier than a rebuild! So at this point we need a new set of tires, new turbo or reseal kit (Supplied by a contact at IHI) and a reman water pump. The interior is toast, but I'm going to put my two cents into having it reproduced as it is very unique. At that point we can give it a run around the block and see what else it needs! Wish us luck in the resurection of this monument in subaru performance history! More pics can be seen here: http://usmb.net/gallery/album287

Aluminum BYB / PK lift
Just curious, but why the move to aluminum if its heavier and more expensive? Will future customers have a choice of steel, aluminum or mixed?
-
how do you install oil pressure gauge?
The thread in the block is an NPT fitting, so I had to get a NPT to SAE adapter and then a brass "T". I put the idiot light sender in one of the open ports on the "T" and the oil pressure gauge on the other port. I also used teflon tape on all the threads in the system to ensure leak-free operation. I can get pics this weekend if you'd like.

New wheels to add to wheel page
http://usmb.net/gallery/album287/Quattro_wheels?full=1 These suckers are off of Quattro San up at WWU. They say subaru on them and they are 13 inchers. QS is missing one or two center caps, so if anyone wants to donate a cap to the grand daddy of the WRX, PM me.

I have access to a bunch of old mags that have sube articles in them so I'd like to scan them and have one of the mods put them up so everyone can read them. Who should I contact for that?

So I guess I have a GL10 wagon
I was reading this article I found in my engineering class and I read this passage: http://usmb.net/gallery/album215/IMG_0902 and it appears that I have a GL-10 Turbo wagon! I guess they couldn't fit the 10 on the rear emblem!

Recommendation?
$4500 seems awfully $alty for a loyale. Go lower, even if it is rare thats just too much, these aren't collectable cars.
-
Any guesses at what this does?
Haven't doodled with it yet, I don't want to fart around with anything until the engine gets replaced in this car.
-
Intercooler or not
There is gonna be a lot more of this stuff surfacing in the near future as I dig around up here (Note the EA81 diesel heads I posted in another thread).

Any guesses at what this does?
Has anyone seen one of these factory on a subaru? This is in an 82 hatchback.
