How do you find cheap Subies?
carfreak85 replied to 4RnrRick's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had the same question about two years ago and for the last year I've been finding cheap subes left and right. Just keep your eyes open and don't be afraid about talking someone out of their car! It took me about a year for my luck to come on full blown, so I guess it just takes time. Be patient and they'll start flocking to you! Doesn't hurt to let people that your into subes and they should tell you if they see one on someone's land or for sale some where. -
Rear sway bar to gen2 Brat

I've got some pics of a couple of setups. From what I've gathered you basically take the mounts and doner car (Might help to just grab the doner trailing arms) and transfer them to your car. Pitch Stopper bushings shot...

Go to ebay or look for an STi unit since it won't wear out as fast. -
Worn out shifter bushings. take the interior boot AND the rubber boot underneith off the shifter and move the shifter around. You'll see what needs to be replaced.

Wow, just what I was looking for! Anyone got more pics like this?

Water in small amounts is ok, as long as there is less water than cylinder volume at TDC. Your engine wont run with that much water, but you wouldn't break anything either.

Whats the 'best' Subie to start with??
carfreak85 replied to 4RnrRick's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
On the turbo engines, do you really want to run a hot turbo through water? There are people who use turbos offroad. You might want to question them about how it feels with the turbo. only EA82 ('85+) came with rear discs unless they were swapped to an EA81. MPFI should have more accurate metering of the fuel so better mileage and a better mixture to all cylinders resulting in more power in theory. Look at the sticker on the rear diff. If it says LSD then its an LSD. Pretty simple huh? Think of the torsion bar as leaving your rear anti-roll bar on while offroading. In theory the struts will have more travel, but I can't imagine that without making the rear softer because as it sits, the torsion bar and struts have about the same spring rate. -

Late model 4WD hatch. You get the bigger valves, vented front rotors, hydro lifters, smallest and lightest body with the least rear overhang. Best starting point, period. -
Do a search, its been covered multiple times.
