I'm going to miss my wagon
GoldDiggerRoo replied to Numbchux's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I' ve had almost 30 cars now, and I've rarely madea profit on any I've gotten rid of, not because I ddin't want to, but I've always felt like if selling whatever car enabled me to get another I wanted, it all sorta evened out. That's how I look at it, or how I convince myself I haven't given away tons of money! I've never been able to look at a car as an investment, otherwise I'd wind up like that guy with 10K in his Brat and never being able to sell it. -
Quick EA82T water pump question
GoldDiggerRoo replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah I think you have the backwards, mine was the 105 and had studs in the pump; I was shocked that the new one came with new studs.....found that out after spending 15min trying to take the old ones out, stupid should check the box! -
Ram Engines Did it again!
GoldDiggerRoo replied to Jibs's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well it was 3am when I wrote that. Maybe it's just because I'm so used to having EA81's, the EA82 with it's t belts, overhead cam, funky disty location, pita to work on reming me of the EJ motor in my RS. Over the years I've been one of the biggest discounters of the EA82, I've never owner/ridden in one that was worth it's weight, to me there is nothing like the EA81 for reliability and ease of repair, after my last EA82 car I swore I'd never have another, but I took a chance on my the T-wagon I just bought. Honestly, the addition of the turbo makes the EA82 power output where I feel it should've been with NA motor, instead of the brick that it actually was. I too wouldn't trust the EA82 at 10k feet, EA81 FTW! -
Ram Engines Did it again!
GoldDiggerRoo replied to Jibs's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This brings up something interesting I was thinking about earlier in the shower (yeah, I know I'm weird). Honestly, the more I work on the EA82 the less a think of them as an EA motor but more as the first true member of the EJ family. I know there is a fair amout of interchangability between the 81 and 82, but design wise, it's more of a EJ. Anyone else feel this way about them? But what do I know, it's 3am. -
I always thought the change in idle when going from park to drive was caused by the drag that the transmission is putting on the engine, am I wrong?

Well, guess I have a new driver
GoldDiggerRoo replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for the help guys, after a little struggle and breaking part of the center timing belt cover (I hate those things) I managed to get it off, and in a complete change of my luck the parts store had two of the four avail. units, and somehow had the one I needed in stock, and it was the cheapest one to boot! Get this, the guy working there, who tried to buy my Brat a while back, didn't even know the water pump I plopped up on the counter was a water pump! It irritates me so much that they hire guys like that and I've put in apps. twice and can't get hired because of my long hair. At any rate, I have the parts and should be on the road tomorrow afternoon, barring any weird issues. The water pump was something like the 4.3 one btw, there was also a 4.0, 105, and 110..... I can't believe there are so many diffrent setups out there for these, seems pretty costly for subaru having to make 4 pumps for the same engine. -
Quick EA82T water pump question
GoldDiggerRoo replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, I went ahead and tore it apart, almost through, do I need to pull the timing belt covers to get to the bottom two bolts on the water pump? -
Just wondering if there is any way I can tell what water pump (hub height) I need for my GL10 Wagon without pulling it apart. I need to order one tonight so I can drive the car tomorrow evening. Thanks in advance

GoldDiggerRoo replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I do have a question about the water pump, was there a standard pump for these, my local parts place shows about 3-4 different ones, with different hub heights.....since whatever pump I need has to be ordered I can't compare before I buy. I'd really like to order this thing tonight so I can get it tomorrow. -
Well after getting rid of my RS, crashing my wagon and having to drive my Brat daily for a month or so with little heat, I finally have a new daily driver. I'd found lots of decent subes for sale in the past couple weeks, a nice XT6 for $500, several RX's, two loaded EA81 4WD wagons for $650 and a hatch, but of course you find all the great cars you have no money, when I finally scraped up some cash only one decent sube was still out there, so I bought it. I am now the proud owner of an '87 GL10 Wagon, my 9th subaru, my first turbo car ever. The car is in decent shape,124k miles, really nice interior, power sunroof, working digi dash, power everything and everything works. The only real down points on the car are the fact that it's an push button 4WD auto, has a couple small rust spots, and peeling cleat coat....but the price was right, so I can deal with those things. I should be bringing it home tomorrow and promptly installing a new water pump (it's leaky). Any advice for a first time GL10 owner guys? Pics to come soon!

manifold swap success???
GoldDiggerRoo replied to Frank B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My question is could you do put an spfi setup on a late EA81 hatch with the feedback carb..... it's already got an ecu....same connections? Just swap intake, engine wiring, and ecu? Moms hatch needs something done to it......that thing is miserable, such a nice car otherwise. -
A subaru owner from Sweden
GoldDiggerRoo replied to riverstream's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Haha, that's the first thing I though! When I saw it I immediately got this mental picture of it rolling down the street past the kremlin with a SAM in the back. Very cool truck. -
Great ideas (stuff ive done/doing)

You know they make a plastic dash cap that could've eliminated you whole bondo step and the need for the carpet. Can't wait to see it all back together. Do you have any exterior pics of you Brat, I'm always interested in seeing another early Brat. -
Who wants to drop $30k on this baby!
GoldDiggerRoo replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You know, if that thing was lifted with huge tires and an EJ swap it'd be pretty cool, but I'm not sure it'd be worth $3k much less two more zeros. -
New look for the Brat
GoldDiggerRoo replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
As far as I can tell the sunroof is factory, I've seen several other with the identical one as mine, I suppose it could be a dealer added option though, like a/c. I'm now debating on adding the camper top that I got with it, it's white though, not sure I can do that or have the heart to paint it black. -

Did you notice how the rear wiper is still there, suspended in mid air! -

That is freakin awesome..... I so need that in my Brat..... 200hp, less than 2k lbs....good times:D Better yet, I'd rather have the tools to machine all those goodies myself. -

Yeah, good call. Maybe I'll turn in a claim on my wagon I wrecked a few weeks back....then take the payoff and buy an STI or 308 GTS! -
You have to see this.... oh yeah, I'm gonna run to the bank right now to get a loan for this..... people are crazy. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=207680594&dealer_id=1363251&car_year=1990&model=LOYALE&num_records=&make2=&start_year=1981&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&search_type=used&distance=0&make=SUB&color=&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=24014&advanced=&end_year=2007&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=810

5 Lug Swap Advantages?
GoldDiggerRoo replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
No....no plans for a sus. swap on an EA81, just been wondering about it for a long time and finally remembered to ask. You were talking about the front but what about the rear, just continuity? -
I've always been curious about it but the thought never crosses thru my mind when I'm near the keyboard....until now. I've always heard people talking about 5 lug swaps on EA82's, but what are the major advantages of the swap besides fitment of wheels? How about ride height, does it make lowering a possibility or what? Just something I've always forgotten to ask. And yes I searched.......you get all sorts of useless results for "5 lug swap"

Update, so I finally got a CEL with the o2 sensor unhooked but it really made no change in how the car ran, still surges. I have noticed though that even when the car is off and the key is removed from the ignition that the blinking red led still is on and blinking. Mom said her bettery kept going dead when she had it at her house too. This light shouldn't be on when the car is off, should it?

has anybody seen this brat...

Go here http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157 and download the flash player uninstaller, be sure to close all your browser windows after you click the link to download it or it won't work. Then after the uninstall I restarted, downloaded flash player and then restarted again just to be safe, worked fine after that. It had been doing that to me for months, hope that works for you. That dyno run you have Phiz is the the same one I have.
