  1. Thanks man, we'll try that.... and I'm sure we'll be talking about it all day at work tomorrow too. The anticipation to try it will make for a long 9 hour day.
  2. The disty is back where it's supposed to be, the cams aren't 180 from each other, he was told by someone they didn't have to be........ so, which do you set first and how do you know you've rotated 180? What marks would you be looking for on the flywheel or do you just visually rotate a cam 180?
  3. next question....anyone want to trade me for a set of the correct wheels or any other EA81's?
  4. Well, another board member and I (desperate) decided to go ahead and do the cam swap on his '87 GL10 wagon over the weekend. Well we now have everything back together and the wagon will not start. It turns over great and even seems to hit on a few cylnders and wants to start but just won't go all the way. Now we've lined up the cams sprockets with the marks on the belt covers like you're supposed to and lined up the timing tab to the three little marks on the flywheel but the we just can't seem to get it. We're getting plenty of fuel and spark, everything appears to be good. Is there something we could be overlooking, some tip/hint or something specific to the EA82 Turbo? BTW the cams are Delta 270's I think. Help! Please!
  5. Just wondering if the wheels on my brat are EA82 wheels.... I know that they are different than EA81's and the ones on the brat are way different than the ones on my '84 Wagon. The spokes turn in sharply towards the rim where as the ones on the wagon gently slope in, I know that the EA82's had different wheels to clear the calipers. you can kinda tell in the pics.
  6. Things are still in the idea stage now, but honestly I could only see the Brat in one of two colors, pink or this dark emerald green that comes on the Pontiac G6 (really nice cars BTW, I'd trade my RS for a GTP in a second). I'm currently working at a rental car place and totally dig the green with black stripe idea. As far as other colors I'm nto much into red and I've seen a lot of 1st gen that color, gold is a no go, not going to make it nice enough to do black (no a/c either), my wagon will likely end up white, lime green is the popular opinion but it's a bit much. I could do WRBlue but I dunno, I really like the idea of the pink or the green. Glad to see that the pink supporters are the majority though! Only time will tell...but pink would match the pink rally pig decal that went on the back window last night
  7. funny you should say that, because in the next few weeks I'm gonna prime it black with a pink brat stripe (possibily) or white, I can't take the tan anymore....heard too many jokes about it being peachy-keen in the past few weeks
  8. Would every sube owner here disown me if I ened up painting my brat this color? I'm an old school mopar guy, always have been and I fell in love with this color years ago, I almost painted my '70 Charger with it. It is 1970 only color, FM3 panther pink for dodge moulon rouge for plymouth. I'm think this color with white interior, flat black brat lettering and stripe. Whadaya think? I mean, it was orginally gold, and besides the fact I hate gold and it's always been a bad luck color for me... I gotta go with something else whenever the time comes.
  9. got the sending unit off now too, managed to scape off the junk and get it moving freely... and the float is still in good shape too. Question though.... does the sending unit need a ground strap or some sort? I've only changed the tanks on ol mopars and I know they had the electrical line and then a ground strap.... same here?
  10. Must be a sleep depravation issue since you did the same thing today! As for the timing covers, the you guys should've seen them, the rear ones looked like they had been in a nuclear holocaust or something, melted over the bolts and running down the front of the engine. The noise was another odd bit also..... somehow a rogue bolt managed to find it's way into the alt. belt (I assume) and was launched thread side down into the driver side timing belt cover..... it was crazy. Like he says though, it's back together and not running.....more to come.
  11. I managed to get it started for him, swapped plug wires as suspected. It is making a wicked noise now, primarily from the mid to drivers side of the engine, kinda sounds like a blown (as in blower/supercharged) engine does, not sure whats up with that. We've got it pretty torn down at the moment, going to do a cam/cam case swap on it..... hoping the noise is cam bearings, any other ideas as to what it could be. BTW..... I removed to belts to eliminate the possibility of it being alt or PS..... it's something internal.
  12. Well, I got the tank out and it was easy as pie, I dropped the rear using an impact and got showered with a combination of falling mud, rust and 27 years of crap. Suprisingly all the bolts came out no problem, and most of the lines had already been unhooked. The whole project took less than 15 minutes. The tank is in a lot better shape than I expected too, I see no rust, just caked on junk and you can hear the same inside, it all seems pretty loose. There is the issue of some sort of goo and a brass fitting on the bottom of the tank near the sending unit/filler neck. I assume there was once a drain plug there? I suppose I need to remove it and either have something welded over the hole or weld on a nut so I can have a drain plug. All in all it easy and the car sure drives a lot better with all that dead weight gone! Now I've got to continue with the other weekend project, doing timing belts and cam swap on a fellow board memebers GL10 wagon.
  13. I think it's funny that my '79 came with dual headlights but has all the wiring for quads and even has the cutout for in the rad. core support on the drivers side for the other headlight. on the pass. side the rad. is stuck in the way.
  14. Yeah, I'm torn on the Brat... I have little to no desire to offroad it like my wagon, I actually would love to do an EJ swap.... it would make one mean sleeper
  15. Mine will chirp second most of the time, don't get me wrong, it's still slower than mud, but it's got way more torque than I expected out of a 1.6, usually torque comes with increased displacement. I'm very pleased with my first EA71
  16. ...or does the 1.6 have a massive amount of torque. I swear from a roll in first I can mash the gas and just boil the front tires and forget about getting on it in a low speed turn. It's got way more torque than any other sube I've had.
  17. I totally shoulda got that from him, less than a week after he got it I got a first gen Brat... I could've had that thing for $5...... he made a nice profit though, only paid $.50 for it!
  18. Does owning a Forester give one a strong urge to have a mullet? Seriously though, I was thinking about this the other day, and more than half of my subie driving friends are girls/women...... F*#k the Vee Dub, I think Subaru is the true peoples car!
  19. Did you just buy that Brat on Ebay? A friend of mine just sold one of those on there.... http://cgi.ebay.com/1978-Subaru-BRAT-Friction-Model-by-Zylmex-RARE-BRUMBY_W0QQitemZ160018390040QQihZ006QQcategoryZ1190QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Guess not, the one he sold had a roll bar...... I wonder if a fellow USMB'er got that one.
  20. Yeah, they're goin' for nothin'. My mom hates it, so I'll leave it on for a while.
  21. What bolts do you remove, I've heard to pull the mustache bar, what else? Thanks for the help... I didn't think I was gonna ever get a reply
  22. My Brat has some isims concerning the fuel system, I need to pull the tank and clean it out and do some other things to it. Anyone know if you can get it out past the rear end, I've heard that you had to drop there rear, just hoping this isn't the case. Advice?
