  1. I don't think I should. I didn't damage anything other than my car and as for my insurance company.... well they wouldn't pay after my last subaru was hit by a drunk driver, so I'm not even going to file a claim on this. The car is pretty hurt, but if I can figure why it lost oil pressure and fix that, with a little welding and a home made bumper, maybe I can make it road worthy again. Thanks for all the support guys, I was really freanking out there for a while. I'll try and get some pics of it this week.
  2. It's a sad day in subie land for me. We've had a snowy day here and I had to go out to the post office, on my way back about 4 blocks from my house a big tree fell right in front of me, it tried to miss it but I slid off the left side of the road and hit a telephone pole head on. I managed to get it pushed out and drove it home, but it wouldn't go any faster than about 15mph. It had no oil pressure at all. It was a pretty solid hit, bent the steering wheel even. So I'm sitting here, knuckles bloody from hitting the dash board, no car, no job, no life. Pretty sure the car is totaled. Man does this suck.
  3. If that fails I think you can have a locksmith come out and "key" the car for you. A friend of mine that deals in junk cars just had this done to an '85 Supra he bought a few days ago. The car had no keys and I think it cost him about $50 to get the key made, since the car was in good shape and had a clear title and free, it was worth it.
  4. lol, I have actually considered bright orange.... a lot. I had a "Dukes of Hazzard" General Lee once, I guess I still have a thing for orange.
  5. Well I already have the hatch which will go back silver, I kinda want something different with the wagon. I do like the idea of a dark green, but I'm wanting a lighter color. The thing I like about the white is that it kinda "showcases" the dirt and gives it that used look. What does everyone think of the yellow idea?
  6. I kinda wanted to poll everyone on what color they like the best on a EA81 GL Wagon. So far I've had gold, maroon and two white ones and I also have a silver hatch, but I think I like white on the wagons the best. I had originally planned to paint mine bright yellow (think Nissan Xterra) because I thought it would look good with the white wheels, but I wanna keep bodywork to a minimum and I think white would be best for that. Anyone have an opinion or maybe some good pictures? BTW, had anyone seen a white brat before? There is one here in town and it's the only one I've ever seen. Just something weird that stuck in my head.
  7. I had my '84 Gl 2wd in water up to the bottoms of the headlights once and I could feel it begining to float a slight bit (bouncing off the bottom) so I would say no higher than bottom of the bumper, but I would mast likely disreguard that advice if given to me. Be sure to remember the wet clutch and braks afterwards, and take it slow and steady.
  8. I'll have a look at it, but I don't think I turned anything. Will do on the call.
  9. Ok, so I'm a moron. I managed to stick the ignition key of my '84 GL Wagon into the switch of my '88 GL hatch. I turned it to start the car and it wouldn't, when I realized my mistake I tried to turn the ignition off and put the right key in, but the switch wouldn't budge, nor would the key come out. After twisting, and yanking I finally got my key out, but I couldn't get the right key in. Now the car is parked the wrong way in front of my house with the ignition in the on position, I had to disconnect the battery and leave it. Does anyone know any tricks so I can get my key in there agian? I really need to move it before I get a ticket, and I really can't afford a locksmith, but if it's the only option..... Thanks
  10. Yeah, I knew it was (found it on a Photoshop site) Just wondered if anyone else had seen it or done anything like that.
  11. Closest is Indiana. That sucks..I'll be so glad when I swap coasts.
  12. I always wanted to build a mid-engined, chevy v8 powered ea81 wagon for road racing. It would look awesome with big tires tucked up under the feanders and the roaring v8 behind ya. Kinda like a DeTomaso Pantera, without the aerodynamics. Prob would look more like a Delorean... without the aerodynamics.
  13. Strangest place I've been stuck in a 'ru? How about the middle of a dry, paved road? It was back about 6 years ago when I had my first '84 GL Wagon, 2wd stick. I was on my way to work, my first job, when I decided that on my way I shoulld stop by a friends house to kill some time before I showed up. Well, I hadn't been driving terribly long and had little if any respect for a lowly subaru (my other car at the time was a '69 Superbee), needless to say the subie had taken it's fair share of punishment. So I'm on the way to his house when I take off from a stop sign on a down hill stretch, I went for second gear and heard a huge bang and what sounded like someone dragging a pair of wheels behind their car. I coasted down the hill and got out and checked the car out, it looked ok and ran fine, but wouldn't move under it's own power. So I walked like a mile to my friends house and called my parents to come and pick me up. We decided to leave the car overnignt and go rent a car dolly to pick it up the next day. We came back the next morning and started on getting the car pushed to where we could load it onto the dolly (just holds the front wheels). We had to push it uphill to get it onto the dolly. First time it was way off-center and wouldn't stap up, second time we were so tired from pushing we didn't get it all the way on. On the third try my stepdad said "let's give it one big push this time", we did.... pushed it so hard the front wheels went past the stops and the car sat there, centered on the dolly. No wheels on the ground, the 'ru, the dolly and the truck stuck in the middle of the road. It had to take atleast another 3 hours to finally get that thing back onto the ground and on the way home. When the car was finally fixed, I had broken an axel and the center of the clutch exploded, the guys at the repair shop were stunned, said they'd never seen one break like that. Too many burnouts I guess.... All the crap I put that car thru made me a believer in Subaru, I've had 5 since Oh, I didn't make it to work that night, the subie got me fired from my first job. It wasn't funny at the time, but it's halarious to me now.
  14. I'm pretty sure you'ld get smoke only at start-up if the valve stem seals were shot. I've had a few v8's that had blow by (new rings didn't seat properly) and they smoked all the time.
  15. Finally got the stereo in with the help of a guy who owns a audio shop near my house. The guy let me in when they were closed on Christmas eve and gave me the parts to fix the problem for free! Needless to say, he'll be putting in the dash speakers and installing the sunroof for me this spring. He gave me a spacer that was brought it out from the console a half inch at most and it gave me plenty of room, and dosen't look bad either. I'll post pics of it soon. Thanks for all the help guys.
  16. No, it's pushing the whole thing out about an inch or more (because it's angled at the bottom. I'm just going to have to cut off the front of this ducting, and then go back later and fabricate a new and recessed front for it out of sheet metal. I'll let you all know how it goes.
  17. It's crazy. I may have had room if I put it in the factory radio hole at the top, but I would've lost the use of the ash tray and had a gaping hole on the right side. I don't smoke, but it's worth leaving for the light or a place to put change if need be. I had no idea it would be this big of a pain, I would've waited for summer if I had.
  18. Well I've got it mounted into the console fine, it's just hitting in the rear. That's a great idea on moving the pocket though, I've left the factory radio in the top for now, with the new one below it. I really need to know if I can cut into this floor ducting.
  19. Hey guys, I just bought myself a christmas present, a new CD Stereo for my '84 GL wagon, at Circut City (where I bought it) I was informed that it wasn't much of a possibility to install it, and the only way they could was with this weird kit that built out the front of the console. It didn't make any sense to me, so rather than spend god knows how much to get them to get it in, I decided to do it myself. I've just mad custom brackets and a face plate to install a CD player into my 280ZX, so I didn't figure it would be hard. I enlarged the factory tap player hole and got the stereo t ofit great, until I put it in the car. I no know why they had to build it out, it is hitting the lower (floor) heater box. My question is this, can I cut the lower (angled part) 3 inches or whatever off? It seems hollow inside, and has lots of holes anyway... I just want to make sure I'm not whacking into anything important. If this will work, I've got to take it in at 8am for the install. Thanks
  20. This is a weird one. In my '84 Wagon alternator, brake fluid, a/t temp, brake light, and parking break lights are always on. They come on whenevr the ignition is on, not just when in the starting position. Sometimes they are on constantly, sometimes they blink, sometimes they get dim as RPM's increase and will almost go out at high revs. I don't think any of these are actually "on" because they are dimmer than they would be when working normally, infact I can put on the parking break and that light get really bright (like normal). My odometer also dosen't work, and I think that someone may have spilled something down in the dash and caused all of this. Everything still functions properly (other than the odo.). Does anyone have an idea for an easy fix for this, or should I not even worry about it. Thanks!
  21. Is that chassis rust? Mine isn't bad, but I have the always rusted rocker panels and left rear wheel opening. Thanks
  22. Are these kits an easy install? What all is involved? I just got another '84 GL Wagon I'd love to lift when I get it painted next spring.
