  1. Things to look for: #1- Make sure it runs. Avoid: #1- Rust Personal experience there.
  2. I'm in the Roanoke area, the other end of the state wouldn't ya know it. Hehe, the '88 isn't old at all, infact it is the newest car I've ever owned (I traded a '69 Dodge to get this 'roo) I'm no stranger to old cars. Good to know I'm not the only Sube fan in Va. There is a local club, but it's really just WRX's. Hope you find another subie soon, I saw an XT for sale just the other day, near where I got mine. Good idea on getting your hubby to put another together for ya, nice to have someone else do the dirty work! ~S
  3. Thats a cute idea, but I couldn't do that to a car this nice, however I do have that white '84......... ~S
  4. Yeah, I love those too, but I really like the factory orange also. Oh, I was mis-informed; my hatch is an '88 NOT a '84 like I said before. I went along with it since it has the older look, not like the loyale. The car is in premo shape though, even the stero system still works great, none of that dash speaker fuzz that we've all come to hate. I managed to wash it and get my white spoke wheels on it tonight; it looks fantastic. Hopefully I'll have some pics soon. ~S
  5. Hi gang! Well, last week my sister and I parted out my forsaken '84 GL 4wd wagon until you couldn't even tell it was a subie (BTW, have lots of nice parts if anyone is interested) and this week I've somehow managed to pick up yet another. This time I got a '84 GL Hatchback. The car is 2wd automatic, silver with blue interior and is in really great shape. Hopefully I can get it painted soon, but 4WD spoke wheels will go on as soon as it gets home Anyone got an idea or example of what color I should paint it? I was thinking either orange or really bright yellow. ~S
  6. That EA81 is Gold with tan interior and an automatic trans. The car is in good shape overall, some interior wear, rusted rockers and a slight miss. Lots of new parts and that's about it.
  7. I'm throwing around the possibility of buying a newer soob, I really love my older ones, but they are more of fun cars and I really do need something vewer for daily driving duties. SO right now I'm looking at a '96 Legacy 4-door. I like it and all, but it has nothing looks-wise compared to the new WRX STi. I can't even believe I'm asking this, but dose anyone know of body kits that are avail. for this Legacy. I kinda want a bit more of a rally look for the car, or atleast some STi style. Thanks
  8. well, I checked the fuses, all were fine, I also did the coil to the battery thing and got no results. I think I may have gotten the timing off now, but the thing didn;t even try to run. I'm lost...
  9. The car turns over, so does the ingition switch thing hold true still? I'm gonna try the coil trick tomorrow and see if that works. Thanks gang, I'll let you all know how it turns out.
  10. Sorry I didn't reply for so long, been busy with work and other car issues. I had a little time to play with the soob a bit and it appears I am not getting any power to the coil. What would cause this, I'm in need of a fix fast... I've got a month to get it running and my other '84 soob parted out before my stepdad has them both junked.
  11. how about higest combined milage. I have 198k ('84 2wd GL wagon), 199k ('84 4wd GL wagon), and 168k ('83 4wd Gl wagon). The GL 2wd has seen 7,500rpm on numerous occasions, dosen't smoke and can still chirp the tires in the first 3 gears.
  12. I'm having a bit of trouble with my '84 GL 2wd wagon. Last time I drove it 2-3 months ago, it had sat with the hood off for a while, got a lil snow on it, but it fired up and ran. I drove it for about 20 minutes and it started to idle rough (common for that car) and then it just died, never to start agian. It's getting fuel and I've changed the dist and the coil but with no sucess. What the h*ll could be keeping this thing from running?! I honestly don't think it's getting fire, it turns over great, but it never seems to hit to start. Any suggestions? (other than don't let it set with the hood off :-p )
  13. Carb rebuild kits and rust repair/body parts Very needed
  14. I just replaced mine 2 weeks ago in my '83. My memory is a little fuzzy on it, but I think mine went to some sort of a "T" and then off to the carb. I coulb be wrong, but it's raining it's butt off now... I'm not gonna go check. Today is a great day to see if I have any holes in the floorboard of my subie, oh yeah... lotsa mud too. I love it!
  15. you're and.... "New never used Subaru Loyale starburst wheel cover 13 inch. This listing is for one hubcap. I have two more available." Ewww....... I hate those.
  16. It's been a weird week for my '83 GL. On Friday, I like an idiot managed to lock my keys into my wagon while it was running. I also didn't have any spare keys, so while the car was begining to overheat, I had to beat the drivers side rear door window out. I was going to replace the door anyway since it had a dent, just had to do it a bit sooner now. I call that motivation! :-p so now, my soob looks like a freak; it has a white door. White doors on a gold car.... sounds like a recipie for a mexican police car to me! I also made a mod that made it a little better. I changed from straight halogen low beams to the new silverstar hi-intensity blue headlights. They are awesome, and since I left in the fact. (are IHI's the orginals?) highbeams. With them both going, there isn't anything you can't see. It's weird to see an old soob with the new blue lights! I've also finished cleaning my replacement carb and am ready to put it back together. I got all the gasket material to make a kit for it, but does anyone make a rebuild kit for a '83 Hitachi 2bbl? My parts store says no., and no way will I pay nearly $300 for a soob carb, I'd go turbo before that. Driving a subie, who knows what the next week will hold!
  17. Thanks gang! I'll let her know tomorrow. Anyone have an idea on price?
  18. Hello, The lady I work with who owns the nearly perfect '85 Brat is looking to have the car repainted this spring (hopefully) Ok, she has come to me and the members of the USMB to see if there is anyone who reproduces the Brat decals/stripes that go up behind the side windows (the word BRAT) Does anyone have these ready made?
  19. Here are some pic's of another cool soob toy that came my way recently. It is a R/C 2004 WRX STi in a werid scale. It's smaller than 1:24, but larger than 32nd (maybe close) I got it at radioshack right after christmas, $14.97... very cool little car. Great pait and decals on this one too.
  20. The Soob is $20 at Wal-Mart and I found them at K-Mart also tonight, their price is $21. ~S
  21. Exactly. THe first weekend I had my '83, I took it to a former lake resort that has been completely graded and is total mud nad red clay that is being turned into a subdivision. This place is on the waterfront and is all hills. It rained for a few days and I thought it would be the perfect place to wring out my soob. When I got there I wasn't alone, there was a guy in a newer landrover who apprently got the same idea. By the time I left he was stuck and the soob was still going. The look on his face was priceless as he saw this 21 year old car that I got for free pass him and his $30m+ Rover in the mud.
  22. I think I read somewhere that Stocton Wheel in Ca. can convert any wheel into a larger diameter one. The have some sort of a spacer and new rim (outer part of the wheel) and put the center section of your old wheels into them. Stocton wheel does some very nice work, maybe someone would inquire?????
  23. I grew up on '60 Chrysler Musclecars... they were the only car I cared about at all actually. I always thought Subies were good looking cars (always kinda reminded me of a Delorean), but I thought (gasp) they were just import junk. Untill!!!!! I started driving my moms '84 GL wagon while one of my hot rod mopars was in for repairs. Suprisingly it wasn't near as slow as mom had made it look all those years, and by god if it didn't handle too! I grew to love my Subies, I could treat them like crap, put them thru anything and they'd come back for more. Then I got into doing some minor repair work on them and I was so impressed by the thought and craftsmanship that went into these little cars. I have never coma across another car as well enginered as a Subie; 2 fuel filters, fuel pump mounted on a heavy steel plate with big soft rubber busings to prevent shock, skid plates, water cooled carb and intake.... what other car is built this tough?! I've been so impressed with my Subies... I swear by them. My hot rod Mopars are now my secondary cars. :-p
